It is a taunt-song - and it is not clear how it proves Catholicism false. The passage does not say, “This is how God wishes people to behave” - it says, “This is how Cain’s descendants behaved”.

Not all of the Bible is direct moral teaching in the way that the Ten Commandments are: “Do X: do not do Y”.

This is true. As well as the incident of Lot sleeping with his daughters, the one of David sending his general to his death so that the general’s wife would be ‘available’ is also a case of describing what happened, not what ‘should’ happen.

Jesus redeemed us from the old testaments faults. He restored love by denying eye for an eye, and he preached against the hardening of hearts in marriage.

Catholicism cannot be proven wrong, and if the inkling should arise that it can, it would not be even close to possible via Old Testament exegesis. The Old Testament is divinely inspired but still stained by original sin (is this the teaching?) from my understanding.

The new covenant fulfilled the prophets in Christian teaching, but did not necessarily validating every single teaching.

Wormwood, I appreciate you for your questions, but based on our interactions on other threads, you really should brush up on your Catholic teachings. The method of interpretation you attack is more protestant than Catholic.

I wouldn’t really phrase it this way.

The OT temporal punishments teach lessons about the eternal consequences brought more fully to light in the OT. Sins that merit death in the OT, still merit a spiritual death today (which is why we call them mortal sins).

Ok thanks. I do recall the scientific speculation of a lost tribe of Isreal in Ethiopia. But what about Ham Ghosty? Surely you of all people have an opinion about this Seeing fathers “junk” bad enough to have your family line cursed?

FWIW (though off-topic), a member of the genetics faculty at the medical school where I work told me that DNA studies on the Ethiopian Jews showed them to be of the tribe of Levi.
