What does it say then ?
I’m looking at the Catholic YOuth Bible and mine does not use these words.

I’m right there with you - I live in New York City. Conservatives here are treated like lepers. I think we’re considered one step below pedophiles. In this case, yes. But it is very hard to get something conservative passed here (except in off year elections)
Don’t give them any ideasNext step: equal rights for pederasty.
16% more are wrong, then.A CBS poll says 49% of Americans now believe same sex couples should be allowed to legally marry. That’s up 9 points from last month’s 33%.

The appeal will go to the 9th Circuit, a liberal court and the decision will likely be upheld. It is likely then to go to the Supreme Court, regardless who won on appeal.I think you’re wrong. The majority of people in this country do not approve of same sex marriage. It has been struck down by every state in which it has been put to a vote by the people, including California, which was the reason for this ruling. It is the liberal judiciary that keeps making it law. And we need to stand up to them.
The courts have the final say, absent a constitutional amendment. How, then, do you plan to stand up to the courts?
That poll is from April 2009. Here is a CNN poll from June 2010. The percentage of approval is going up, but according to this poll, 53% still oppose same sex marriage.A CBS poll says 49% of Americans now believe same sex couples should be allowed to legally marry. Schools are a major target - even Catholic/private schools have been pressured based on the miniscule amount of federal money they receive for technology and safe school grants.I think you are wrong. I can see tax exempt getting pulls at churches for “hate speech”. I can see schools getting very ugly. I can see folks freedom of speech being limited. There will be more…
Based on the small amount of the ruling posted here, there is no logical reason to deny polygamous marriages in California. No we will see polygamy back first.
Especially since civil unions are already legal there. All the proposition said was that the state recognized marriages between man and women. How does that do anything you state? All men can marry a woman and vice versa. Where is the discrimination?
Enought states have one man - one woman in their constituttions that the only way it will be legal in every state is with SCOTUS intervention. And if that happens, I think “every state” will be a number much smaller than 50.Regardless of what SCOTUS rules, one day same sex marriage will be legal in every state.
Prop 8 changed the California constitution so it couldn’t be unconstitutional based on the CA constitution. Prop 8 was round 2 after a previous resolution that did not ammend the constitution. What is interesting about this ruling is the judge stated that Prop 8 violates the US Constitution. In the past the favorable same sex marriage rulings were always regarding a state constitution…so this will be interesting to see where this leads and how it will affect Federal policies regarding LGBT rights. At the moment there is the Massachusetts ruling that strikes down DOMA that is heading towards the US Supreme Court
Thank heaven for small favors.Court issued a stay. No new gay marriages for now.
Judge knows he’s going to be overturned![]()
I disagree. The states have voted against same sex marriage, but the citizens are becoming soft on the issue. Even in CA the numbers are not as high as it used to be, and that is my point. Over time if you cook the people long enough in tepid water, they will not care when the heat is turned-up.I think you’re wrong. Were the USSC to refuse to hear the appeal, would it leave it up to the states? Being heard in a federal court, it would be fodder for precedent for lawsuits across the country. If the 9th circuit were to uphold the decision (very likely), then it would become ground on which to challenge all state laws and DOMA. And one of those would likely end up in the USSC.TWe don’t know what the Supremes will do. They may consider it a matter for the states to determine and refuse to hear the appeal. There’s also no guarantee that they will reverse the decision.
Yes, which won’t satisfy the conservatives. The courts have the final say, absent a constitutional amendment.
The SC, imo, will not reverse the decision. As much as I hate this situation, I must also be clear minded–they agenda to make gay marriage the law of the land is being won quite convincingly. People have been sleeping, now it is likely too late. The appeal will go to the 9th Circuit, a liberal court and the decision will likely be upheld. It is likely then to go to the Supreme Court, regardless who won on appeal.

People aren’t satisfied when they lose, not just conservatives.Yes, which won’t satisfy the conservatives.
You are correct. I didn’t mean to say that it was something to be resolved in state courts. But, the Supreme Court could still refuse to hear the case. Were the USSC to refuse to hear the appeal, would it leave it up to the states? It’ll be in the USSC at some point. And until then, we won’t have resolution to this issue.
How can it not? Based on this ruling, first polygamy, then pederast marriage, then polyandry, then whatever you want. When will polygamy b ecome legal?
