What do you think of the government promoting marriage and families via the tax system in an effort to stabilize society?
So, looking at the present state of marriage and the family, how well would you say that tact is working?
There is only one reason why I believe this is so important in the first place: the law is a teacher.
If the government redefines the word “marriage” to include homosexual unions, people will start believing that definition – mostly non-Catholics. We have seen how Protestant teachings change, I wouldn’t expect many of them to last. Eventually, it will start to permeate into the minds of many Catholics as some morally liberal issues have (ABC, for instance).
If “marriage” is redefined, it will do damage to Catholicism (nothing fatal of course, but it will be detrimental nonetheless). If the government were to get out of all marriage issues, I would be happy. Unfortunately, I can’t see this ever happening. We could only expel them from our own, and that wouldn’t solve the problem.
You’re mixing up your aphorisms…the law of man is not the teacher, the Law of God is the teacher.

Men can make bad laws as easily as good ones, and when the law of man conflicts with the Law of God, we have to make a choice about which we are going to follow.

The law of man could change the legal definition of marriage so that it refers exclusively to the mating habits of the rare amazonian flying hamster, and that would not change the Law of God, and it would not change the validity of Sacramental Marriage.

As the People of God, we should not shy away from living in exile if it is necessary to remain faithful to the Law of God. I don’t mean that we should head for the hills, I just mean that we should not be upset that our values separate us, socially and culturally, from mainstream society when the mainstream is in opposition with God.

History generally shows that the experience of exile makes faith communities stronger, not weaker.

Out of ALL of the problems our world has, why are we concentrating on things that are irrevelant?

War, Epidemics, Rape, Murder, Poverty… Recession ?!], and people decide to protest against gay marriage… Really? Am I the only one who’s amazed by this?

We’re being distracted by something that we shouldn’t care about… we’re being distracted from the issues that really need to be fixed in order to make this world a better place–not for Christians, but for mankind.

As much as a happy Catholic I am, I must say, religion really puts a leash around your neck.

I may say more on this, but that’s just a basic idea of what I’ve been… eh… contemplating. I’m really curious about what you guys think.

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood
Actually, we should care, because once homosexuality is given the same recognition as race, religion, gender, etc., when it comes to discrimination, then the government can place the leash of persecution around the Christians’ neck. It is not just about somebody else. It becomes your problem if you don’t support it.

This kind of persecution is already happening all over. A wedding photographer in New Mexico refused to photograph a lesbian civil union for religious reasons. The couple reported her to the New Mexico Human Rights Commission, and she was fined $7,000.

In Massachusetts, same-sex “marriage” has created a nightmare environment for Christians. There is too much on that to type here - see this link instead.
Special Report:
What same-sex “marriage” has done to Massachusetts:
It’s far worse than most people realize
After reading that, do you honestly think the issue of government-endorsed, same-sex “marriage” is “irrelevant”?

You might ask people for gay marriage why they are wasting their time and the time and energy of others. 🤷
Yeah, but… you see, here’s the problem. Prop 8 came from people who were *against *gay marriage… why did *they *waste their time and energy on something that will most likely go the liberal way whether passed or denied?

As my incredibly conservative, though insightful, gov’t teacher and my liberal psych teacher told their respecitive classes: It’s just going to go back and forth–the fight will never end until it gets to the U.S. Supreme Court. And even then, more cases will most likely follow until people get sick and tired of the issue to the point of not caring about orientation and what people do with it.

This isn’t a Christian world. Nor is it a liberal’s world or the world of any other specific group. It is *our *world, and once we realize that, we can put our differences aside in order and make it a healthier environment, environmentally, and pay attention to things that matter. 🙂

If no one agrees with such a thing, then I think we just proved one of the Satanic philosophies to be true. “Equality for all” really *is *a myth. 😦

Actually, this world belongs to God. And we who are Christians belong to Him. So we will continue to fight the good fight and run the good race. 🙂

Last time I checked, this is GOD’s world.

Speaking of Satanic philosophies, I think you could benefit from reading the Three Secret Strategies of Satan to Destroy our Children, our Families, our Culture, and our Church.

Not everyone sees it that way. For example, I contend that we all belong to God-- Christian or not. We have to find a way to work together even if there are cultural and, of course, religious differences between us.

It’s very puzzling, however, that you mention this world belonging to God… I look around and see what we’ve done to it. It’s insane! Look how we’ve treated our Earth–or, rather, our God’s Earth! … it’s been quite awhile since the Industrial Revolution, and we choose *now *to bring in into the light?

Now, technology’s always been our best friend, for the most part :takethat: , but why don’t we move away from people’s personal business (and that goes for the people on both sides-- no and yes on 8) and just use our resources to create a healthier place to live. :heaven:

:okpeople: You want to protect our children? Then, it would be best to restore God’s Earth-- the one we’re on the verge of destroying.

Doesn’t really matter - did you read the link?
Yes, it matters-- there’s a huge difference.

And no, I did not bother–I mean, I took a glance at it, but it’s pretty iffy at best. The title pretty much said it all, and frankly, through my eyes, it’s pretty invalid.

We don’t know what Satan is up to-- We don’t even know what God is up to. For all we know, they could be sitting on their respective domains, minding their own business, wondering, “Did mankind destroy themselves yet?”–No, I’m totally kidding. 😃

But I did check the beginning out.

Truth is not relative.

I am a cooperator in the truth and I will not yield to ideologies or false philosophies. I will continue to run the good race and fight the good fight, because God is Lord.

So, looking at the present state of marriage and the family, how well would you say that tact is working?
I’m not sure if it has done any good or not. We don’t have a control experiment. 🤷
You’re mixing up your aphorisms…the law of man is not the teacher, the Law of God is the teacher.
I’m not saying the law should be a teacher. I’m saying that it unfortunately is. People may see things and commonly think “that’s illegal, it probably isn’t good” or “it’s legal, so it’s probably alright”. I believe this is why abortion has become as accepted as it is.
Men can make bad laws as easily as good ones, and when the law of man conflicts with the Law of God, we have to make a choice about which we are going to follow.

Can’t argue with any of this.

Ok, I see what you’re saying now.

I suppose it does…

I personally think that divorce and remarriage among heterosexuals does more damage to traditional marriage than all the same-sex marriages put together.

Judging from that opinion, I guess traditional marriage has always been in the toilet, huh? :o

See - there you go again. You are missing the point. Actually those pro homosexual activist are the true wasters of time and energy.
Nope - the matter does not end in the hands of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Nope - people like me and many, many others will not get sick and tired of the issue to the point of not caring and losing hope in what is Right.

Yes, it matters-- there’s a huge difference.
This is a topic for a totally different thread, but whether or not someone is a theistic satanist or an atheistic satanist, the result is the same.

Interesting how often the people who most need to hear about defending the truth, and not compromising the truth in order to be “nice” and “politically correct” are the first to dismiss that essay. They immediately dismiss it as “pretty invalid” when they see it is talking about themselves.

I´m sorry to say that all marriages are “traditional” , just as all families are “traditional”. Anything else other than one man and one women who have children is a bunch of people; neither a marriage or a family.

Please use words with some correction, or soon we will be talking about “traditional” truth or “traditional” love.

:nope:
Is a single parent family, headed by a divorced mother or father a family? Certainly it is not a traditional family. Is a household of a man and a woman who have had children, but never married a family? Even if they have lived together for 20 years? Certainly they are not a traditional family.

Let me answer without getting too long. The concept of family exists because of the biological capacity of procreation that God has given us. A couple with ten children is not more of a *family *than a couple with one child. They either are a family or they aren´t. A woman with children whose husband has left her or has died still has what is left of her family.

Two men who adopt a child are not a family. Neither are a helicopter and an elephant who adopt a goldfish.
