Oops. You forgot to include young males as well, Shin. I am sure it was just an oversight.Young females are still to be kept “pure” and “undefiled”.

No, I remembered, but I was just quoting you.Oops. You forgot to include young males as well, Shin. I am sure it was just an oversight.![]()
Well, Shin, I was refering to an historic period where women alone were deemed property or a family asset and thus alone were compulsively expected to be “pure” for the future husband. Today, however, civilized people attempt to treat woman and men equally - thus if your stated expectation as a religious person is that women should be “kept” pure and undefiled, you need to do the polite thing and include men in the same context. No, I remembered, but I was just quoting you.![]()
For a properly catechized Catholic, that people are to be pure and undefiled of both sexes is understood. One does not have to mention men and women in every statement for fear of being accused of sexism, because the people who do that are the actual sexists.Well, Shin, I was refering to an historic period where women alone were deemed property or a family asset and thus alone were compulsively expected to be “pure” for the future husband. I am sure you would have been polite to have included men in your statement, but perhaps you were momentarily distracted when that US military drone buzzed over your cave looking for the Taliban.![]()
Your missing the point. I didn’t see anything about the poor. It was how men should dress in church. Read the scripture that i wrote on another post. I really thank God for not looking at the outward appearance but what is from the heart. To me the main thing is that someone is going to church.According to whom?
Every time a set of standards in dress gets mentioned in any thread, without exception, people jump on those who suggest we show respect to God AND man by the way we dress.
NO ONE is judging the poor, who (at least on our parish) would never be caught dead attending church in the sloppy attire adopted by many of those who can easily afford better.
As without, so within.
How we dress comes from the heart. Our heart is our will. We will how we dress.Your missing the point. I didn’t see anything about the poor. It was how men should dress in church. This scripture has nothing to do with dress. Your making a big thing out of something so small. Like i said before, I attend church in Jeans polo shirt and nikes. Do i believe i am in sin by how i dress. Of course not. Will God judge me by my clothes. I don’t think so. It is my heart that counts. Now i do agree that if a young lady came in with see through clothing some of the ladies from our church would let her know but in a loving way.How we dress comes from the heart. Our heart is our will. We will how we dress.
External circumstances such as poverty can change this, and so God looks at the heart, as well as the results of our actions.
But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.
He said to him, ‘My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?’
But he was reduced to silence.
Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’
Many are invited, but few are chosen.
Matthew 22:11-14
Note that the person was invited to the wedding feast by God, and came to the wedding feast. The person wanted to be at the feast with God. But the person was not ready for the wedding feast, the person had not prepared… like the foolish virgins…
They were not prepared for God.
We must prepare our souls and our exterior actions will reflect the interior. Those actions include how we dress and act, to the extent we are capable of influencing them with our will, our heart.

Will God judge me by my clothes.
The LORD said to Moses,
When you use these tassels, let the sight of them remind you to keep all the commandments of the LORD, without going wantonly astray after the desires of your hearts and eyes.
Thus you will remember to keep all my commandments and be holy to your God.
I don’t think so.
When the people heard this bad news, they went into mourning, and no one wore his ornaments.
The LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites: You are a stiff-necked people. Were I to go up in your company even for a moment, I would exterminate you. Take off your ornaments, therefore; I will then see what I am to do with you."
Wow, Shin, I guess you were dreaming of the ancient warrior God image so prevalent in the OT the day your religion teacher was talking about the New Testement message of love and forgiveness. The OT God would have smote the lot of us a long time ago!! I wonder if He would have spared you??He said to him, ‘My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?’
But he was reduced to silence.

To the angel of the church in Sardis, write this: " 'The one who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars says this: "I know your works, that you have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.
Be watchful and strengthen what is left, which is going to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.
Remember then how you accepted and heard; keep it, and repent. If you are not watchful, I will come like a thief, and you will never know at what hour I will come upon you.
However, you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; they will walk with me dressed in white, because they are worthy.
'"The victor will thus be dressed in white, and I will never erase his name from the book of life but will acknowledge his name in the presence of my Father and of his angels.
'"Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches."'
Shin, you are nothing if not truly a literalist! Just wondering how effective it is to use Revelations to prove you point here, probably the most allegorical and image laden book of the bible! Its like the IRS tax code - no two experts can ever agree on actual meaning in that hodge podge of hocus pocus!!!Revelation 3:1-6Code:To the angel of the church in Sardis, write this: " 'The one who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars says this: "I know your works, that you have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Oh I know I am alive in mercy. Now is the time of mercy. But the judge is the same judge. He is waiting for our repentance, and has given us time, unlike often in the time of the Old Testament, when His judgments were executed immediately… Time for you and for me… and tomorrow may be too late.
Are you ready to face God today?![]()

I’m beginning to think that no matter what book of scripture I pick, nothing will suit you. First the Old Testament is no good, now pieces of the New…Shin, you are nothing if not truly a literalist! The purpose of a job interview is to impress a potential human employer who knows nothing about you and you are competing with other humans to gain a limited postion. The purpose of a mass is to stand openly before God who knows everything about you and there is no contest with others to get before Him or impress Him - whether in this life or the next. You are comparing two unlike things.I’m beginning to think that no matter what book of scripture I pick, nothing will suit you. First the Old Testament is no good, now pieces of the New…
IRS tax code? I could wish the tax code were as quick and simple to read as the books I have left to work with!
Let’s see I have only the ability to pick non-threatening, nice, portions of the New Testament, that are very literal and not allegorical at all. . that leaves me with…
Hmm. Nothing. You win. If I can’t use scripture to prove to you that what you wear matters, I can only tell you to go to your next job interview naked.
Tell me how you make out.I’m sure they’ll appreciate your heart!

I can’t speak for ppasa316, but I think he/she was pointing out that Shin forgot/failed to mention that the person was instructed to wear something specific, but did not. This is quite different from having the ability to choose what one wears. In fact, I believe Shin even mentioned it earlier in this thread, but I’m at work and I don’t feel like going through pages to find it.Do you?

Honestly, I can’t believe this thread is still going strong. Until the Church imposes a dress code, people will wear what they want. I personally wear business casual clothes, but I don’t look at people in jeans any differently.
You know it brother. Gotta Love ItDo you?
