So I went to serve Mass and I went in before and the ciboria were out and i looked in them, before they had the hosts in them, and I noticed what I’m pretty sure were Crumbs and than I looked in another one and I’m pretty sure there were crumbs in others. And so I got really nervous and I just wanted to run away because a situation like this is what kinda caused me to stay away from Jesus for a while before. So I didn’t say anything to anyone because I didn’t want them to think I was crazy but now I think I mighta messed up big. I didn’t know refrain from saying anything in order to show disrespect to Jesus but I was so scared. I feel so worthless and like God hates me now. I talked to someone who I’d consider my spiritual director ( not a Priest) and they said I was fine. If this is the cause of me staying away front Jesus I will be so hurt. My spirits are so destroyed right now, any gentle help and advice would be appreciated. Sorry for any inconveniences I cause with this. Thank you

Not the single ciborium. At my parish we have EMHC. The Ciboria that they use is what I’m speaking of.

Your post isn’t clear. What’s the problem? Ciboria hold hosts. Hosts leave crumbs. Wherein lies the problem?

There has already been Masses since this post. I’ve ruined everything now.

No - this is hardly on you. That’s quite a leap.

The ciboria should be properly purified after every Mass, but if that didn’t happen intentionally, and other Masses shortly followed, it’s not the end of the world and certainly not on you. You just need to let the pastor know what you saw so he can address it.

Not looking for a back and forth, but do any others view “purification” of vessels after the sacrament odd terminology?

How could anything coming in contact with the body and blood be in need of purification? If the vessels were not used for any other purpose, residual consecrated hosts or wine becoming the true presence would be moot.

But would what I’ve dont be considered desecration. I am so scared right now. I new to following Christ and I wouldn’t say my conscience is correctly formed at the moment.

But would what I’ve dont be considered desecration.
You haven’t done anything…certainly can’t be desecration, as that in 99.9% of cases must be intentional. Please talk to your priest about your concerns.

And please come back and tell us what the outcome was, won’t you.

I have to say, once I saw white specks in a ciborium when I was getting the altar ready, and had the same misgivings and concerns as you, so I sympathise.

Do you know what it turned out to be ? Fluff off the cloth they had been dried with after washing…

Emailed a very wise priest in my diocese about this and explained the situation as best as I could. He said to not worry and I was not at fault. I’m going to try not to worry as best as my scruples will allow and try to trust the priest. Thanks all
