On June 29, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch ran an editorial on the papal appointment of St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke. This editorial ended with an unsupported charge that the Archbishop was “welcoming” pedophiles to the Archdiocese. This was based upon accusations from SNAP. (Note I fully support helping anyone that our faith has injured in anyway.) As it turns out Missouri has two treatment facilities that are treating Priest for disorders. The Post appeared to make no journalistic attempt at verifying information or get a response from the Archdiocese. As it turns out neither facility is owned or under the control of Archbishop Burke. As a result 1.2 million people were misinformed by the Post. I am happy that the Catholic League has addressed this; however, everyday our faith is assaulted. I often see posts on this site from well meaning people with terrible misinformation about Catholicism. How do we fight all of this misinformation?

To start with I never believe anything the MSM says about the Church and I trust editorials even less. It doesn’t mean the Church gets a free pass in all matters but knwoing there is an element bent on discrediting the chruch is a begining.

I agree with not taking much credence in an editorial; however, look at all of the posts we have on this site from people that assume that these editorials are correct. How many souls do we lose because of a paper misrepresenting the truth. How do we show 1.2 million people that their blurb was wrong?

You could write a rebuttal editorial. It would probably reach as many people as read the original. Be sure to include documentation.
