Police papers detailing the inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are expected to be passed to the public prosecutor in Portugal later.

All the police’s information will be reviewed, three days after her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leics, were named as formal suspects.

Meanwhile, police and social services in Leicestershire are meeting to discuss their response to the case.
Madeleine, four, was last seen in the McCanns’ Algarve apartment on 3 May.

Mr and Mrs McCann, both 39, returned to the UK on Sunday with their two-year-old twins, Sean and Amelie, but can be recalled to Portugal with five days’ notice.
Police and representatives from Leicestershire social services are meeting on Monday afternoon to discuss Madeleine’s disappearance and the naming of her parents as suspects.

As a Catholic, I’m frankly disturbed that this is even a possibility in this instance (that the parents are suspected of killing the child).

I have been asked numerous searching questions by my own children about the case and various news reports. Is the world so out of step with Christian ethos?

I suppose the question has to be, do you think they did it? I personally feel their is almost something wrong with asking the question. 😦 What do you think?

Hi Mark,

It is a sad question. My answer…I don’t know, but it is possible.

Obviously, we don’t know what evidence the police have, so it’s difficult to know how compelling it may be. There have been similar cases in the US. The most high profile one is that of JonBenet Ramsey - that one was never resolved because the evidence against the parents and one other likely suspect were not sufficient.

One strange thing I noticed is that they left the twins and Madeleine at the apartment while they went to dinner. Was their no sitter? Is that normal in the UK? They could be charged with gross negligence for leaving toddlers alone while going out to dinner, if it happened in the US.

I went to a dinner party at a friends a few months back and this issue came up in conversation around the dinner table. The hosts are rather, well, posh and they have holidayed in the same centres where the McCann’s were in Portugal (Mark Warner). While most of us around the table were busy pontificating about how incredible it was that the children were left alone in the villa, our hosts announced that they had often done the same thing themselves at a Mark Warner, Apparently they have “minders” wandering around the complex. I was rather shocked myself because I wouldn’t dream of leaving the children and going out no matter who was wandering around!! But it seems some people do!
🤷

this is a duplicate thread, there are several other ongoing discussion, and it is premature and IMO unchristian to speculate publicly about the alleged guilt of the parents in this case.

That’s pretty much the idea of the thread to be honest

This worried me today-- it always makes me think that the devil is directly involved when you hear of someone losing hope. 😦

I read that a %100 match of Madeline’s DNA was found under the upholstery in the trunk of the car the parents rented days after her disappearance. The forensic officers expected to find skin and hair DNA because her toys and clothing were transported in the vehicle, but the source of the DNA they found was of a nature that it led them to believe that Madeline’s body was in that car. They have turned the evidence over to the prosecutor for review and possible charges.

I don’t agree that discussing evidence is uncharitable. If this information is correct, things are looking pretty bad.
