Protest Planned Against Pope in UK

I think the Pope will still visit England in September and the protesters will be kept at a distance. The planned protests are starting on Easter Sunday. I find all this very sad.

Dare I say its a list of the usual suspects? The pope is protested where ever he goes - which is probably true for all world leaders. I think the Palm Sunday protest was simply to get attention for the larger protest which will occur in September.

You are right it is not planned for tomorrow. I was not aware that the Pope is protested where ever he goes. This is why I was very disappointed to read about the planned protest in the UK. I did not hear of any protest during his visit to Africa.

You may be right about that. Protests against the Pope may only occur in the developed world, where people have more leisure time to devote to protesting someone or something which affects their lives in relatively minor ways. Or it may be that we only hear about the protests in the developed world because news coverage is more omnipresent.

When I said the Pope is protested wherever he goes (perhaps an overstatement) I was thinking of the US, France, Germany, Turkey, etc.

As far as I know this protests where planned before the sex abuse scandals. At the Westminster protest last week as far as I know there where 50-200 people at most. And they protested on Palm Sunday, which is just disrespectful. The two supporting organizations I don’t get why they’re involved in this are Council of ex-Muslims of Britain and Southall Black sisters.

Why is an ex-Muslims group protesting the Pope? That seems to have nothing to with their ideology.

And Southhall Black sisters is a charity for abused women, why are they involved in a discriminatory campaign towards the Pope? They should be ashamed of themselves!

The National Secular Society is a joke, they have about 3000 members in a country of over 60 million. Where are any of those humanist groups when a radical Muslim cleric comes into this country saying some outlandish things? Nowhere to be seen.

And to have Peter Tatchell involved in this makes this even more ridiculous, this is a man who said the age of consent should be 14, and he said that Pope Benedict is a ‘Nazi Hompophobe.’

What do these people honestly think will come out of protesting? For every one of them, I’m sure 1000 Catholics will come out to support the Pope. What do they expect to achieve from this? That the Pope will see them and then resign?
