The U.S. Conference of Bishops has placed on their site a place where you can protest to your Senators and Reps. directly.

If you know that the government is going to far interfering in religious conscience, then I hope you will sign onto the site and protest. Let’s not just discuss it; let’s do something.

If you do this, the system will select your Rep. and two senators and it will show in the confirmation when you submit.

Thank you all and God Bless.

Thought to explain. There are two bills languishing in Congress since 2011, one is already nearly a year old – they are freedom of conscience bills.

The U.S. Conference of Bishops asks that we contact our Reps and Senators to move these bills along to an up and down vote.

Freedom of conscience will allow the Church organizations to function according to their conscience while continuing to do the good works without violating the faith or risk heavy fines.

Came across the link elsewhere this morning, actually. It’s pretty neat. I’ve been signing petitions and things. The Whitehouse, for whatever it’s worth, has a petition against this ridiculous new mandate. There’s also the Manhattan Declaration, my own Bishop signed that one. I know Mr. Ben Stein has one regarding academic freedom. Can’t hurt to start covering other bases before the other bases go under. Also, pray that the Bishops and Priests continue their acting up. I’ve never seen this kind of activity, although I’m no veteran Catholic, just a convert with a couple years. But who knows, maybe we can be the sleeping giant that wakes up and swats the bloodsucking flies our representatives are becoming.

God Bless,

While this is well-intentioned, I question its effectiveness. They must get a million petitions every day, and who is going to count and verify all the names?

The Senate website senate.gov has a feature whereby you can send your individual senators each an e-mail explaining your position. I have had some success with it; my last e-mail produced an actual phone call to me by a staffer of one and a custom e-mail by the other senator’s.

And note that this petition on the White House website is a new petition created after the “accommodation” was announced. They removed the previous petition (and the opposing petition asking Obama to keep the HHS mandate as is) because they considered both petitions “resolved” in light of last Friday’s change. Someone then created a new petition the next day because our concerns were not addressed.

So even if you signed the first one, you can still sign the second one. It hasn’t picked up much steam yet because I think most people figure they already signed the petition. It is important to sign the new one to let the Administration know that we are not happy with this alleged compromise.

Will do. And though I received an auto-reply from my Senators, my petition through the U.S. Conference of Bishops was forwarded on within hours of submission.

Edited to add: a link would have been helpful. I’m not finding it on the WH site.

Sorry. Here’s the link:

wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petition/rescind-hhs-mandate-requiring-catholic-institutions-provide-insurance-covering-contraception-their/mG8SwXxj

The last petition got close to 30,000 signatures before it was removed (last I had seen it). This new one so far has just over 1,000.

The whole point of the “accommodation” was to take the wind out of this story’s sails. It is important for us not to let the story fade into obscurity.

Thanks. Instructions below. They sure make it difficult to access the petition. Of course, it came as no surprise.

Okay, here’s how it goes. We need 25,000 names and there are only 1,066.

You must create an account and use the link in the e-mail confirmation. You can change the password when you log in.

Then you must log in. If you go to the petition and don’'t see a button to sign the petition, log OUT, clear the cache and the cookies, then log back in. When you find the petition, there should then be a button to sign the petition.

Please, we need 25,000 signatures.

23,900 signatures to go. We gained about 300 signatures since yesterday.

If possible, please create an account and petition the White House. We need 25,000 signatures by March, so we need more than 300 per day.

Thank you. God Bless.
