Is there some sort of Protestant version of Catholic Answers Live?

Catholic Answers Live has some themed shows, like “Why Are You Protestant?” or “Why aren’t you Catholic?” It would be so fun to call into a Protestant radio channel and have some discussions with Protestant apologists about why I’m Catholic! Do any such radio shows exist in Protestant land?

Yes, you can call Matt Slick and have him tell you that you are going to hell because according to his chart of essential/non essential teachings, you fall into the non Christian category:

Considering that the overwhelming majority of “CCM” and “Christian radio” skews Protestant and most of the songs in rotation on “CCM”-format radio stations have pro-OSAS/pro-sola scriptura lyrics, I’m not quite sure you’d have a difficult time finding shows like that since the majority of the stations already are in “Protestant-land.”

You’d probably find more denomination-specific shows as churches within Protestantism have widespread and conflicting beliefs.

It would be hundreds of different arguments regarding justification. When you must justify division and you subliminally doubt your theology, that’s all you talk about.

Protestantism is not founded on Christ - it is founded on controversy surrounding Christ.

There are no Protestant answers, because there is no Protestant authority. The answers you would get would be different depending upon whether you were asking a Presbyterian, Anglican, Lutheran, Methodist, Southern Baptist, Northern Baptist, Reform Baptist, Antioch Baptist, Landmark Baptist, Primitive Baptist, Freewill Baptist, Independent Baptist, Anabaptist, Pentecostal, United Pentecostal, Church of God Pentecostal, Pentecostal Holiness, Oneness Pentecostal, Assemblies of God Pentecostal, Evangelical, Evangelical Free, Congregational, Non-Denominational, Disciples of Christ, Nazarene, Wesleyan, Tabernacle Holiness, Full Gospel, African Episcopal Methodist, African Zionist, Tabernacle Movement…I may have forgotten several thousand.

The Christian Research Institute had a great radio show in the 1900s called “The Bible Answer Man.”

I have no idea if they are still around, my town having no English-language religious talk radio station for several hundred miles. If they are still there, the people would have changed.

“The Bible Answer Man”, AKA Hank Hanegraaf, converted to Eastern Orthodoxy this year. 👍

I don’t know of shows that feature such a segment. There is the Bible Answer man who takes questions. But I wouldn’t call that poor man right now since he is getting grief for converting to Orthodoxy. Stand to Reason is a decent show that takes calls. The host of that show will engage in reasonable debate.

I used to listen to that. Greg Koukl’s explanation of why the Protestant idea of the rapture doesn’t stand up helped me a lot. Until then, I didn’t know the Catholic Church didn’t teach that! Greg does have a blind spot about Mary, but he’s usually pretty reasonable about other issues.

This is quite insightful po18guy.

God bless.

FRIEND IF YOUR DOING IT FOR “FUN” …DON’T:eek:

Defending our faith is ALL about God;s TRUTHS, not FUN:shrug:

Pray about it

This is from Calvary Church, which isn’t really Protestant, but it is non-Catholic Christian. They have a show called Pastor’s Perspective (which is call-in show similar to that of Catholic Answers Live). I haven’t listened to them in over a year, but I know in the past they’ve pointed out ways in which they are similar to Catholicism and ways in which they are different.

Heh. I’m not sure how similar that is to CAL. 😊
There is nothing really comparable to CAL. No real flag bearer for the whole of protestantism…

Bible answer man is no longer on the air.

So you can call Slick or Dr. White and be called a heretic by either of them.

Heh. So I guess CAL is the flag bearer for the whole of Catholicism? 😉
I wonder if there would be an equal number of listeners/support for something that might be called "Progressive Catholic Answers Live’? Some guests might be, for instance, Fr James Martin, SJ, Sr Joan Chittister, OSB, Phyllis Zagano, Archbishop Blase Cupich, Elizabeth Johnson, and a host of pastors, theologians, sisters, and people in the pews who are doing extraordinary work inside the institutional Church.

I’m not trying to be either dismissive or flippant here. I experience two very different communities of western Roman Catholics (US, Canada, Europe, UK, etc), and it would be quite fascinating to hear discussions, questions answered, and ideas exchanged just like on CAL.

Just a thought in response to CAL being the ‘flag bearer.’

They’re Protestant.
Whoops! You’re absolutely right. I guess I was overcorrecting as often times people might assume non-Catholic non-Orthodox Christian means Protestant. I know the origin of Calvary Chapel doesn’t necessarily stem from more traditional Protestantism, but they identify themselves as Protestant so that’s what I should have gone with. A sincere thank you for the correction! 🙂
