Catholicism aches for reconciliation as Christs Church whereas nonCatholic Christians accept division as fine with only theoretical agreement based on agreeing to disagree on what is Truth.
Actually we all should ache for unity, and I think we all do. But the opposite of that is not being “nice” as you suggest, unless you mean recognizing freedom of conscience as God given and we are to respect that.

The CC church is no different than branches of Protestantism in this. We all ache for unity but will not budge on what we all believe to be God inspired tenets of faith. We also both accept that folks in other churches could be considered brethren…that is " nice".

Both our histories are also troubled when we felt it proper to not be nice, not accept differences, and civically penalize and spiritually anathemize them.

Well then the first part stands. That that is a common misconception in Catholic circles.

Disagreeing on music styles vs disagreeing on the Trinity is two totally different things. One will create division and the other will create frowns.
Well disagreeing on the Trinity is not a problem between the CC and non-Catholics. (The ones not agreeing to the Trinity are not even considered Christian in many circles).
Today yes. But not in the early church.
I honestly do not think you get my point if that is your post. That is you have division in the CC just as much as any other. And to the point, the authority didn’t help much.
I honelstly do not think you understand there is no such thing as dividing the body of Christ. Its just not possible. There will always be disagreements within the body but there is no dividing it. There is no dividing truth. Anytime there has been “division in the church” the wholeness of Christ is still there and visible to anyone searching. If it is not the Catholic church, fine, but please tell everyone where it is and i will be there today. Do you know any denomination professing the fullness of truth? Why would anyone want less than the fullness?

Peace!!!

Reminds me of the Samaritan woman at the well, “Sir, give me this water, and I will never thirst again…”, and Jesus saying worshipping God in truth and spirit will not be subject to this place or that place (this mountain or that place Jerusalem)…indeed there is a universal body worshipping Him in truth and spirit, (quite universal, quite catholic) but we eventually do dumb down again and say it is with Peter, or it is with Paul, right back at the Samaritan well.(for indeed there are differences now, some not knowing Jesus).

Correct, you would not have had any schisms if they were not desiring to profess “fullness” in truth.
So you think Christians should be professing partial truth only? “Jesus is sorta the way, some of the truth, kind of the life”? Sorry, not for me, and im sure you really dont profess this when you are evangelizing either.

Peace!!!

Never heard anyone profess partial truth, going a against John’s admonition, “children…ye know all things”.

Now I have heard many say a thing may be above ones pay grade, or like Paul’s admonition, “we now see thru a glass darkly.”

Not sure of your question when I just posted that even those in schism desire full truth, even that such a desire would cause schism, to be apart from partial truth.

Either we have the fullness of truth or we do not. Hiding behind “schism”, “denomination” “division” or any other obscure measure or obscure language would be a pretty ugly trick from God on the unlearned.

Peace!!!

Well you were talking about professing truth, not sure how professing could be “hiding”
would be a pretty ugly trick from God on the unlearned.
correct…He places great accountability on teachers, to even what we profess. He is zealous for His name and His sheep. However, it does happen, a certain thing professing to be light when it is not. The trick is not from Him, but the fix is, strict dependency on the Shepherd, and wo to false teaching and hypocrisy.

Might as well get some mileage of the fact of being called schismatic, even part of tradition of much division, that we can at least analyze it, speak of it, from an experiential point of view, something a born Catholic cannot do…don’t think we hide or profess partial truth, but understand the temptation to umbrage over our professing fullness, and vice versa.

By continuously speaking obscure language like this for the people truly searching…

If you cant identify who the true teachers are we will just keep going round and round…

Peace!!!

Jesus did not go round and round with the women at the well. He clearly said salvation lied with the Jews (and it’s Messiah), relative to the Samaritans. He did not specify which Jews (sect/branch). So i think today He would say salvation is of the christian church (it’s messiah) relative to false religions. Not sure he would specify which church, least not at a well experience, to one who has never drunk from His well.

Now in my town if one were to ask i could definitely direct them to a handful of churches that have living waters that I personally know of , and know that there would be similar churches like them round the world, just as you could do the same.

Dont look now but you make a strong case for JWs or Mormons. 😱

Peace!!!

Why the Catholic Church is not the early Church (the early Church which all mainline Protestants agree with)? That’s when I would say history my friend. Study the history.

…and you will come to the same unified conclusion everybody esle has? You too are making a strong case for JWs, Mormons, and Westboro Baptists.

Peace!!!

Studying the History makes one more inclined to be a JW or Mormon? People should stop saying that then 😉 I would personally love it if everyone actually did check the history.

Anyway I saw you posted that to someone else and I do not get your point?

Do none of y’all realize that repeatedly saying various paraphrases of “if you’d actually study history you’d realize I’m right” is both very condescending and utterly unconvincing? This thread is making me dislike Protestants and Catholics alike.
