This thread is not about “how much Protestants would like to thank Christian monks.”

It is an inquiry into why Protestants do not have a notable monastic interest.

Post something on topic and I will be more than happy to respond in kind.

Oh, I see. We’re never allowed to drift a little off topic. I’ll try and be better next time.

Atemi, I’ve only asked you at least three times to give kudos to those that dedicated their lives to preserving The Word. Any one who loves the Lord shouldn’t find that too difficult.

But you seem to have a problem with that. Oh well, I’m sorry that this is so difficult to do.

But I do feel better. I was beginning to think you had me on 'Ignore". Whew!

P.S. Not even a “Good job, brother monks”?!?!? 😉
 
You folks are talking like there are no Protestant Monks and Nuns…you’re mistaken…and I’m not talking about the Anglicans either…google TAIZE…there you will find a community of Protestant AND Catholic Monks who live together in community and whose Charism is REUNIFICATION.

Monastacism is a lifestyle choice, many of it’s features can be found in Judaism, read about the society of Prophets that Elijah was associated with…

Further, one need not be celibate to be monastic…there are orders of MARRIED MONKS…among them is a gentleman named John Michael Talbot.

Actually there is a lay order of the fransiscan brothers of the renewel that allows for married laity. And Talbot is not married, he was divorced before his full communion with the Church.

As for the monastic life

I stand correct, JM Talbot is indeed NOT married…but there are married monks out there who live in community. The Brothers and Sisters of Charity allow for married couples in community, which copied off of several similar groups in Europe.
