Does God call Christians to be protestant pastors ? I think he does I know a number of pastors who were called by God to lead his Flock

He does call leaders but many begin to rely only on the pastor for salvation and the modern church has no community.

Yes he does call people to be pastors. Our Lutheran pastor is just is called by GOD just as any Catholic priest is.

I think God calls us to serve Him in the little ways we can, with the little bit of understanding we have:)

If a man is protestant and God is calling Him to be a servant, then it makes sense he might serve by pastoring.

If a man is Catholic and He is called to service, he must first decide which vocation He is called to. Marriage, Religious orders, or service in the single life. These three vocations call us to very different types of service for the Lord.

I am glad I am married and have children. But, if I could have attended the Catholic Church when I was younger, I could see myself following that path. I just never knew much about it at all.

Where do you think people rely on pastor for salvation? I never heard of it.
I think people rely on the pastors to preach true teachings to them. So pastors have a great responsibility for the souls of their people.

I feel I am responsible for my own soul. Not a preacher, and until my children are 18 I will be responsible for theirs as well. I make the choices in my life on whether or not my family will go to Church, and what Church that may be. It’s the reason me and my wife are converting to Catholic.

Read the holy Scripturers. Find out for yourself who is NOT and who is a false teacher. The Lord Jesus Christ promised His Church (Catholic Church) to be guided by the Holy Spirit to all truths to the end of days. Do you think the same Holy Spirit would call some protestant pastors to teach the same truths outside of His Church? No. These protestant pastors DO NOT teach what the Catholic Church teaches. If you say yes they teach some truths, then be wise, the truths that were left out will be enough to confuse and mislead you. God CANNOT contradict Himself. He is TOO serious for the salvation of our souls to do that. Either humble yourself and obey whom He has sent or not.

Thanks. I’ve realized this part of the question is really broad and I should’ve ask the poster what he meant by relying on pastor for salvation. Sometimes, one emphasizes on this for some particular matter that we might not know what it is.

**Many are called but few are chosen, meaning, of course, that many are called to serve the Lord, but few there are who are chosen by the Church to be priests.

All legitimate baptized people, whether Catholic, Orthodox, or protestant, are called to serve the Lord due to the nature of their baptism. The Holy Spirit will work through the grace of God and in His own way.

I think that “protestant pastors” are lay people with a special charism, but they are limited in their understanding of that charism because of their being outside of Christ’s legitimate Church. However, they share in a life of grace just the same and
also have the Scriptures. But again, they are limited by their own understanding of the Scriptures due to being outside of the Church. Protestant pastors do not possess legitimate ‘Orders’ and never will because of the break with apostolic succession and rejection of the legitimate priesthood.**lso

Our lutheran pastors at our church are called by the holly spirit just as a catholic priest or nun. None of us can speak for God or decide who he calls to do what. I was raised catholic and for some to assume that only Catholic priest are called by GOD is wrong. GOD will meet us where we are where ever two or three are gathered in his name. This idea that The Roman Catholic Church is the one true church and that there is no Salvation outside of it is not proven. What you interpet scripture to say is just that your interpetion.

From By What Authority?
What is a “pastor?” The word is from the Latin, in fact, and it means - quite simply - “shepherd.” If you call yourself a pastor, you are claiming to be a shepherd of God’s flock.

The term “pastor” is also interwoven with the biblical term “overseer,” or “elder” - in the Greek, episkopos, or “bishop.” … Further, to be a “pastor” (shepherd, overseer, elder) is also to be an “ambassador” for Christ (c.f. 2 Cor. 5:18ff).
This is no light responsibility, and Scripture tells us that this position is never self-appointed. That is, no man can merely take it upon himself, of his own initiative, to start shepherding God’s flock …

The same, of course, goes for “ambassadors.” The dictionary defines the word to mean, an “authorized messenger or representative” - thus, an ambassador must be sent. In fact, the word “apostle” is Greek for “sent one.” To this we can add the words of St. Paul, who says that preachers must be “sent.” (Rom. 10:15)

Now, what does “to be sent” mean, except that someone in authority over you has conferred the privilege and authority upon you? In fact, it goes without saying that the one who confers the authority must be superior in authority to the one being commissioned, since no one can confer that which he does not possess himself.

In other words, a congregation’s vote cannot suffice, Scripturally speaking, to appoint a man as “pastor,” since the congregation (of inferior authority) cannot confer superior authority upon a man…

God is the source of this mission and authority.

He passes it to Jesus (“the Father has sent me… all authority has been given to me”).

Jesus passes it on - along with “all authority” to act “in my name” - to the Apostles (“as the Father has sent me, * so I send you,” “go and make disciples”).

The Apostles pass the mission and authority on to men like St. Timothy and St. Titus (“with all authority” Tit 2:15).

The second apostolic generation is expected to entrust the mission to the next generation, ad infinitum.

It is this last point that we must now unpack and develop a bit further. The first generation of Apostles takes care to not only pass along the message, but also creates new pastors with apostolic authority to continue transmitting the message …

Biblically, there is only one way to become a legitimate ambassador of Christ, or “pastor”: by appointment from a superior. This can be done in two ways: being commissioned by a legitimate ambassador (apostolic succession), or being called directly by God…

We will look at three examples of men (or groups of men) in Scripture who were truly called by God directly to their ministry: Moses, the Apostles, and Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches that this supernatural, extraordinary calling by God directly is the exception, not the rule. The rule is appointment by succession (as in the case of the kings, prophets, and the second generation of apostles). In the exceptional, extraordinary case, Scripture requires the proof of miracles, signs, and wonders for authenticity …

This last case should truly give pause to any professed follower of Christ who claims to have been called as a Shepherd of God’s flock. Where are the miracles that must attend your ministry as verification of your extraordinary calling? If even Jesus submitted to this proof-test, how can any mere man exempt himself from this same test, unless he wishes to say he is greater than even Jesus? …

One side note, to those of you who read this who are not pastors: this same challenge applies secondarily to you. Are you certain that the man who shepherds your soul is a legitimate leader? Or are you following a self-appointed shepherd who is in rebellion against God’s appointed authorities?*

These excerpts only scratch the surface (i.e. the linked page goes into much greater detail).

I think God calls men to be leaders and shepherds of his flock. Men who are unaware of the truth of the Catholic Church and who were raised in a different faith tradition answer that call to the best of their ability, and some become non-Catholic Christian pastors. I think that’s a good thing, but a thing that could be even better if these men responded by becoming good Catholic priests, and leading their flocks into unity.

Just my two cents.

Peace,
-Robert

If a non catholic feels they need to fill a need then, I can’t be unhappy they do so. I can be happy for them without agreeing with their theology. Some priests are called to be priests, some couples to marriage, some to martyrdom. Why judge if the person has done things they truly believe are serving the lord the best way they know how to? If they don’t know that the catholic church is the one that catholics proclaim it to be, than unless there is open malice against the catholic church why would anyone care?

This idea that The Roman Catholic Church is the one true church and that there is no Salvation outside of it is not proven.
Actually the term “Roman Catholic” did not come into use until after the Reformation, and it has never been included among the Church’s official titles. But I digress…

Did Christ found a visible Church or an invisible Church?

Certainly it was to a visible, authoritative body that Christ declared, addressing its first earthly leader, “I will entrust to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 16:19). What good would it have done to bestow the keys upon a Church so formless as to defy any effort to identify it? Then, too, Christ speaks of a visible Church when he recommends recourse to it for settling disputes among his followers: “Refer it to the Church” (Matt. 18:17). He tells his followers, who make us the Church on earth, that they are “the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house” (Matt. 5:14-15; see also Luke 8:16,11:33).

Ignatius of Antioch speaks of a visible Church when he outlines its nature in 107, marking it, for the first time of which we have record, as the “Catholic Church”: “Where the bishop is found, there let the people be, even as where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.”

So, now you know that the Catholic Church, i.e. the Church that Christ founded, is the one true church. As for salvation outside of it, what was it that Jesus said to the Seventy that were sent in Luke 10 (see my previous post about the significance of being “sent”)? “He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me” (Luke 10:16).

Do you hear (or reject) Peter and his successors?

He does indeed. And I know this, because that’s what He’s calling me to 🙂

I’d say huh also. If what is meant by “the modern church” from what I can see its all about community. But, what community?
I guess it depends on what one means by that.

People are called to marriage, religious life, priesthood, and the single life. God calls people to himself (truth if you will), he doesnt call people to something that is only partially true.
