“From this day all generations will call me blessed” so, if she said that, and I quote the Angel Gabriel’s message from scripture, what am I doing? Sounds like prayer; a good thing- and, what I wrote was in the Bible. Chick’s anti Catholic comics were the rage in the 80’s along with a made up “Jesuit Priest” that supposedly left Catholicism. Whenever anybody tried to question Chick about this person, they were “not available” or “teaching in Rome.” I first saw all this junk in the Army in the 80’s and stopped government money from being spent to purchase this by taking it to the chief of chaplains

He also said this
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
Mary called called god her saviour only sinners need a saviour
I would ask him if he believes that babies and children under the age of reason, those who are not sinners, go to hell or does he believe they go to heaven on their own merit, since they are not sinners and according to his line of reasoning don’t need a savior?

If a person falls into a pit (sins) and you reach down and pull them out you saved them. If you get in front of them and stop them from falling into the pit in the first place then you also saved them.

Catholics don’t believe Mary saved herself we believe Jesus gave her the grace to save her before she sinned.

If it were possible wouldn’t you do the same for your own mother?

I bolded that last statement because to me that is the key to all of the teachings on Mary. Why would anyone believe Jesus would do anything for us that He didn’t already do for His own mother? I never would.

How can we truly believe that with the help of God’s Grace we can become the best versions of ourselves, if we were to believe His own mother, whom the Bible tells us was Full of Grace, was still incapably of not sinning? The way I see it if Mary, being closer than humanly possible to our Lord, still sinned there is absolutely no hope for the rest of us.

It’s easy to apply this same line of reasoning to ever other teaching on Mary, including prayer to the saints.

God Bless

He now said this to me
ROMAN CATHOLICS: You are not saved but lost if you do not believe that Christ suffered for and died for and purged us from ALL of our sins on the cross.(1 John 1: 7 - 9). Your Roman Catholic doctrine of Purgatory denies that Christ suffered for, died for, and purged us from ALL of our sins on the cross, teaching that Roman Catholics must suffer for and be purged of sins in ‘Purgatory’.(1 John 1: 7 - 9). The Gospel is that Christ died for our sins and arose again from the dead. Salvation is promised only to those of us that believe this Gospel. Roman Catholics do not believe this Gospel (1 Corinthians 15: 1 - 4), but believe another Gospel, a Gospel that cannot save. They that preach another Gospel are accursed. (Galatians 1: 8 & 9).
You might want to tell him there is no sense moving on to more misinformation you have received about the Catholic Faith until we clear up the misinformation you already presented in regards to Mary.

If you’ve presented him with any of the comments you were already given here, for instance the video above, and he ignored them and jumped to his next attack then you are wasting your time. It is best to move on. You can’t have a civil discussion with an illogical person who only wants to vent about us evil Catholics.

I would corner him into giving an honest response if he wants to have a civil discussion. If he doesn’t then you might as well be talking to a wall.

God Bless

He’s now saying “the Catholic Church was founded by the devil and is rotten to the core sorry the truth is the best”

It sounds like you’re dealing with a troll who is trying to get a rise out of people. Probably best to just say you’ll pray for him and move on and leave it at that.

You need to understand that Mary is able to obtain these things by asking God and this should go without saying.

 The truth is indeed best. Your friend would do well to include it in his objections against the Church. You two have nothing more to discuss if all he’s going to do is keep pitching up strawmen.

P.S.: Where in the Bible does it say the words “The Catholic Church was founded by the Devil”? 😜

Hi he now used this picture and said this is out of context he said Mary cannot hear our prayers
This is from the prophecy of St. Simeon and it tells me that the Blessed Mother does hear our prayers.
(and you yourself a sword will pierce)* so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” (Luke 2:35)

Asking people for favors isn’t in the Bible? He should try reading it sometime. Tell him to get out his King James Version, he’ll find over 20 places in Genesis alone where someone prays to someone other than God.

Jesus Christ creating the Church is on the bible and yet he joins Luther’s church? (Or Calvin’s etc.).

Rosie if this is a battle that you need to fight then you keep up the good fight. I was once in your shoes. I use to go onto youtube and try to have civil discussions only to find out there aren’t any there. It was the same straw man arguments or misunderstandings over and over. I could easily tell the other person had no desire to hear the truth, but I felt it was my job to have the truth out there for others to see. Also, I enjoyed the challenge of digging deeper and deeper into my faith with ever new accusation I came across.

After a couple years of fighting these battles I discovered two things. First one is no matter how much time I spend there will always be one more person out there objecting to what they THINK the Catholic Church teaches or my posts would be deleted. The second is once I stopped wasting that time and started to use that time to dig deeper and in researching deeper into my own Catholic Faith I became like a sponge. I’m now spending the extra time soaking up 2000 years of knowledge of this never ending ocean full of the deposit of our faith.

Basically, all I am trying to say is if you feel the desire to fight this fight you go girl. But from my own experience my faith did not take that next huge leap until I decided to stay off you tube and spend that extra time around the good hearted people hear on CAF and doing my own reading and research.

Keep up the good fight,

God Bless

And of course one should ask “other than saying you believe in Jesus and the Bible and to bad mouth Catholics; what do you believe in?” And “Saved? If I could save myself, than Jesus would have no work left in me…”

I saw this picture of Mary and fell in love with it!

I looked up Sub tuum praesidium and Memorare:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

An ancient prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the oldest known version of which is found on an Egyptian papyrus from the 3rd century. This prayer is used in Litanies to the Blessed Mother and as a concluding prayer to Compline. A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who recite it.

SUB tuum praesidium confugimus, Sancta Dei Genetrix. Nostras deprecationes ne despicias in necessitatibus1, sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper, Virgo gloriosa et benedicta. Amen.

WE fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen

I know I usually start these kind of threads and people say I’m trolling but I’m not I just feel a strong need to defend my faith and if I know the answers then I’ll say them but if I don’t I come here looking for answers and I wanna shut this person up with the FACTS
HI Rose,

You know, there are great matriarchs as there are Patriarchs in the Bible. And, each generation waited for the promise to be fulfilled. Like Abraham, which Mary is comparable to in faith, her faith in God’s plan was accredited to her as righteousness. The moment Mary agreed to trust in God’s plan, the redemption started.

So, as Catholics, the honor and respect (Love) comes from the understanding (internally)and knowledge (wisdom) of that great moment.

Zechariah’s Song

67 His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:

68 “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has come to his people and redeemed them.
69 He has raised up a horn[c] of salvation for us
in the house of his servant David
70 (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),
71 salvation from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us—
72 to show mercy to our ancestors
and to remember his holy covenant,
73 the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
74 to rescue us from the hand of our enemies,
and to enable us to serve himwithout fear
75 in holiness and righteousnessbefore him all our days.

76 And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
77 to give his people the knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins,
78 because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
79 to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

What I think is that this thread is a bit of an echo chamber. I’ve had a look through it and many of the same points are made which is fine. Chick tracts should really not be taken seriously by any one.

As regards the Sola scripture and tradition argument, go easy. Non Catholics also use tradition, they are just not aware of it. Here’s a good book on the subject

https://www.amazon.com/What-Authori...=mark+shea&dpPl=1&dpID=51GNuS-iUoL&ref=plSrch

Sola scripture was one of the means devised to try to minimise abuse by those in priestly authority and at the time was vital to address the issue of things like the abuse of indulgences and simony. The question is always what safeguards are there to prevent misuse of authority.

Regarding Mary, I think that many of the things the Church teaches about her could be argued either way, it’s just that the Catholic Church has decided to give her massive more reverence than the Non-Catholic and that is fine.

For a good book on Mary, Scott Hahn’s book Hail Holy Queen is good if laboured at times

As regards witness, arguments based on winning will never succeed, relationship is really the only thing that seems to work in the long run. Finally remember that this is not your fight but God’s and let the Holy Spirit do the heavy lifting

One final word, try to be kind to your non Catholic Christian brothers and sisters, just because you think that they’re misguided doesn’t mean that they’re not worthy of respect. Somehow it is all of our duty as Christians to brinng the Church (all Christian traditions) together as Jesus preaches in the Gospel of John.

A final word, for those who are interested here’s a great review of Chick tracts
