Yeah. Especially when Our Blessed Lord remarks to Saint Faustina that if she knew the pains of the souls in Purgatory that she would never stop praying and offering up sacrifices for them. But, that part of Scripture is about Hell, not Purgatory.

According to the Letter From Beyond, the damned souls, having been confirmed in their hatred of all things good, want their living ‘loved ones’ to be in Hell with them, so that they, too, will suffer unspeakable torments and the loss of God. Dives clearly showed concern for his brothers, as well as remorse, which leads me to believe he is in Purgatory rather than Hell. I realise the Letter From Beyond is not exactly authoritative Church teaching, but all the assertions therein are clearly footnoted to passages in Scripture, as well as the Church fathers. It does give one much food for thought.

I’m not even sure how Jesus saving us from all sin and purgatory are at all opposed to each other. Does the guy even know what purgatory is?
I would like to echo others’ concerns about continuing conversation with this guy. This accusation of his, along with his other accusations, indicate that he is driven heavily by hatred for the Catholic Church and probably Catholics as well. You’d have more luck herding cats than making any positive impression on him through debate.
It would be better to stop engaging with him and pray that God softens his hardened heart. Sure, backing out will give him the impression that he’s “won”, but you can’t win an argument against a crazy person, and this man’s hate is making him crazy.
This is what’s known as a Gish gallup, also referred to as “shotgun argumentation”. The problem is that it emphasizes on overwhelming the opponent as opposed to having serious engagement with meaningful ideas. Of course, the implementer hasn’t actually won. They’ve just made it physically impossible to respond to a dozen horrible arguments.
This is also a problem with non-structured debates, since there is no way to prepare for one and no moderator to tell the implementer to cut it out. This is another reason that you probably want to stop, because he certainly isn’t going to stop or meaningfully engage with anything.

Exactly! The point in the letter where Anne writes something along the lines of, ‘In truth, I wish you were here with me, feeling and suffering as I do’, has always sent chills down my spine. There truly is no remorse in Hell, just pain and agony and the infernal desire for one’s friends and relatives to suffer, too. Frightening.kill051:

So friend, If this were true WHY are n’t ALL Catholics rich?
As a FYI: you’ll find the term “purgatory” just to the left of the term “bible” in the Bible.
