Has anyone else ever noticed that a lot of protestants have tunnel vision? Protestants say that Peter was never in Rome. I point to clear, impartial and very convincing evidence that Peter was in Rome but they just can’t accept it. It isn’t like they are arguing over the implications, they argue that it is not a historical fact when it is. Then protestants tell me stories about witches in Catholic convents that hold ceremonies to satan and get pregnant just to go and get abortions. I ask for proof. They can’t give me any proof because there is none, because this is just a crazy story they made up, but all the while they insist that it is true. I feel like talking to them is just me exercising my ability to talk. I have found out that protestants don’t have the first clue about Jesus or his teachings. They will tell me everything from, Jesus was the son of God, to Jesus was possessed by God, to Jesus was just a man that God spoke through. They can’t seem to agree on anything. However, if I ask them about the Catholic Church, they all say the exact same thing. They all say that I have to leave the Catholic Church in order to get to Heaven. Since my own belief is that I need to stay in the Catholic Church as my only ticket to possible get to Heaven I certainly wont’ take their advice but I find it interesting that they all agree on this one point and that this is the only point they all agree to. 😦

I decided to test just how far this goes with them so I started to carry the Catechism of the Catholic Church with me. When I get into a conversation with a protestant I open the Catechism and say “The Catholic Church teaches that …” or “Catholics believe that …” and then read verbatim from the Catechism. Every single protestant I have tested this on has jumped all over even the first sentence and attacked whatever it is that I just said. They make up whatever is necessary on the spot to try to prove to me that the Catholics are wrong. The problem that I point out to them is that I usually have statements from their denomination that claims they believe the exact same thing. It doesn’t matter, I am talking to a wall, they insist that when they say they believe it, it is correct and true, but when Catholics say it somehow it becomes incorrect or just a lie. 🤷

I even got one guy to not use Email anymore because I told him the Catholic Church approved of it. One lady that I know now refuses to wear anything on her head when going to church because I told her that it was a practice started in the Catholic Church. 😛

I do think that some of this is really funny no matter how sad it is. When listening to a guy talk about “being saved” I noticed that he reduced the entire thing down to a verbal formula. He insisted that all you had to do was say that you were saved by the blood of Jesus and you are saved. He then went on to talk about how once you are saved you are always saved no matter what you do. So I asked “Are Catholics saved?” He said no. So I asked that if a Catholic said the formula that he invented could a Catholic be saved. He said “Hell, No.” So I asked, “Well all of these people here just have to say your words. Some of these people are muslim. Are you saying that a muslim can be saved by saying your words but a Catholic can’t?” He said “First a Catholic has to stop sinning against God and leave the hell hole church. Then he can be saved.” So I asked “What if a person leaves the Catholic Church and gets saved by your method, are they always saved?” He said Yes. I said “and nothing can change that?” He said Yes. So I said, “Then what is to prevent a Catholic from leaving the Church for just long enough to repeat after you and then go back to being a Catholic. After all, once saved always saved right? So a Catholic who wants to be safe can leave for five minuets and repeat after you, get saved, then go on for the rest of his life as a Catholic. If this is wrong, it is ok, because once saved always saved. Same for the muslims here except you don’t even ask them to recant Islam first.” At this he just started to use foul language and raised a bunch of conspiracy theories about the Church and the Anti-Christ. I don’t think anyone was listening to him anymore though.👍

Very nice story:) Especially leaving the CC for 5 minutes to be “saved” is hilarious! Poor protestants, they don’t even about their intelectual and spiritual misery. I feel really sorry for them, their beloved ones told them lies and when they hear something different they just can’t believe it. Truth hurts but there’s no other way. God bless and carry on doing it!

Webster’s Dictionary: Prejudice = to pre judge

Many Protestants do not know a thing about the Catholic Church only what they heard from others that have no authority on the subject.

This must be because they believe no one has authority, that is why there are tens of thousands of denominations now.

If only they knew the truth about the Catholic Church they would surely question and stop the protest.

I think you need to meet more Protestants. The vast majority of Protestants that I know do not hold such ideas. Yes, discussing the faith can be difficult, but look at how many things either side has to overcome to “prove” anything. I am sure that Protestants think that we are tunnelvisioned as well.

I have known some who were adament that I was going to hell because I am Catholic. The bad part was that one of them was one of my tenth grade teachers, and she was kind enough to tell me that IN SCHOOL!! But that is another story for another time…

What is sad for most Protestants is that their pastor is to blame for telling lies to them. They don’t realize that there were NO Protestants around during and after the time of Jesus. They don’t realize that Luther and other Reformers were Catholic, and since they didn’t like something, they started their own churches. Protestants don’t want to know about history, it would shock them to find out the truth. I just thank God he planted me in the right direction.

You must ask yourself what you want from Church?

do you want to follow in the way of Christ or your own path.

To follow is just that and includes traditions, teachings, and scriptures.

Now ask yourself are you being taught what you want to hear.

Do you really think it is that easy?

For many come but few will enter.

I think certain Protestants–and really Fundamentalists for the most part–take the faith alone doctrine to the extreme because they have a skewed idea of faith–essentially blind faith. History, reason, etc. are essentially barred from how one comes to know God.

Genesis315

The faith alone docrine is not in the bible but true faith brings works are. I have shown that numerous times on this forum and hoping that it will take root.

However when they, the ones that believe in faith alone are put in a corner with scripture they dissappear from the thread.

It is hard to relax and let Christ work and I say work through us to others. To abandon the fact that we are in control and to leave that control with Christ

Prayer is a two way conversation and have invited all to spend an hour with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration.(the exposition of Christ in the Church) Ask what you want from him and shut up and listen.

Righteousone,
I am Lutheran, and have signed on here to learn more about the Catholic faith frankly because I am disturbed by the direction of Lutheranism in recent times, as well as having second thoughts about it in general. My dad was a Lutheran pastor, and I’m convinced he never lied to me. To me a lie implies an intent to deceive. He had strong faith, and truly believed in the Lutheran confessions. In addition, I never heard him denigrate other beliefs, including the Catholic Church.
Perhaps he was wrong (I’m willing to find out), but he was not a liar.

Was Jack Chick your professor? Or are you relying on Trail of Blood?

I think using words like “lie” is not helpful. At best it is a pejorative term, at worst a foul accusation.

Stating what you believe to be true, even if it is not correct, is most certainly not lying.

Stating something without checking its veracity may be foolish or a sign of poor education or going beyond your competance, but it is not lying either.

One of the things I think you will find from secular and Christian historians is there is a remarkable amount of agreement on many matters. Although I strongly disagree with some of the basic presuppositions concerning textual criticism, in general, I think you will find a great deal of uniformity on matters we could possibly discuss. Obviously I am not sure what specifically would interest someone.
I do not remember engaging in debates with you in the past. I think while people may strongly disagree with me, most people do not deride me academically. But let us put aside that for a moment and let me invite you to…bring it on sparky. Start a thread on a specific topic. I will address it when I can.

And sorry for my presumption. There are many people who claim knowledge of history, but rely very unreliable sources.

Having come from the Evangelical/Fundamentalist world to the Catholic Church, it seems that although there are plenty of lies being told from the pulpits every Sunday, most of the pastors out there are not aware of the lies they are teaching. 😦 They have been misled themselves, often through many generations, and are completely convinced they hold on firmly to the truth, in it’s entirety.

I think that we as Catholics, even though we can be accused of horrendous things, and even though we can’t hold even halfway intelligent conversations with our accusers most of the time, we still have to try to have compassion towards those who are completely blind to the whole truth as we know it. This can be difficult, I know well. 😦

And we must thank God everyday that he has shown us favor in leading us to his full truth - and in my case - in spite of the greatest, most overwhelming odds against it. :gopray:

I do not know of any Popes or clergy in the Catholic Church that have left this world with treasures or a nest egg for their family at least in the past 700 years.
But I bet I can on numerous Protestant denominations. I guess if that.s what they were reforming they have become their own worst enemy,

I am a Protestant, and I think that 1) not all Protestants have this “tunnel vision” you are referring to, and 2) not all people with this “tunnel vision” are Protestants.

Also, I believe that Catholics can go to heaven - without leaving the Catholic Church. I also believe people from various other Protestant denominations can go to heaven. I don’t believe in once saved always saved.

In case you hadn’t been able to tell from the differences in nearly everything in their theology besides the fact that 1) there is one God in three persons and 2) Jesus died for our sins, Protestants believe many different things. Please don’t lump us all together. 🙂

You can definitely blame someone for refusing to listen in the midst of diehard evidence. But can you really blame someone for believing what they’ve been taught, when they don’t know any better?

Hana,

So what protestant religion in this?

Your other question is not knowing well Jesus faught us to seek out the truth. In today’s day and age there is little excuse when one goes before the Lord and say I did not know, it was someone else,s fault other than a low IQ

Hannah,

I did not mean to sound kurt or self righteous. I say this as the time of excuses is coming to an end.

The big lie is the protestant churches lying about the Catholic Church. Your Ministers know the truth. They have thotoughly read the bible and church history.

They were just taught how to put a slant on it for self gain.
