As a long time former member of the Church of Christ, I was always taught that there was only one Church. Fortunately for me, I realized that I was not in it.
This is an interesting quandary. If you don’t like what your church teaches, go find another church??? Why bother to go to church at all if you’re simply going to “run away” from its teachings if you disagree?Say I don’t like the Catholic Church’s teachings about divorce, or abortion, or contraception, or whatever, there are plenty of other churches who can easily “evangelize” these displeased Catholics.
What good is fellowship if it puts one on the road to ruin?
There are some pointers that can be helpful here. The Holy Mass does not depend on whether it is interesting or boring. This enactment of the one-and-for-all sacrifice is able to stand on its own. It does not matter whether the priest is old or young or poor preacher. All that is required is a legitiamtely ordained priest. Everytime a mass is celebrated, grace overflows and freedom from sins pours over the land. When a mass is celebrated in Saudi Arabia, even without knowing it salvation seeps through the land. For the Blood of the Lamb brings salvation. Thus the issue of whether there is such thing as good fellowship during the mass does not arise. Basically we come to the mass to participate at the foot of the cross at Calvary and the Last Supper. It seems that many people feel that while the Catholic church is the true church. Protestants are better at fellowship and scripture and evangelising.
I beg to differ.
If we keep in mind the fact that Mass is for worship not for fellowship, we can see that the Catholic church is not lacking anything.
I invite anyone who is having problems that they feel a protestant church can solve, to join me in a discussion on this matter.
You are right. It is foolhardy trying to pin you guys down. There is so many varieties of you. The best we can do is to mention which denomination but even then within the same denom it is hard to brand you. Maybe like you said, just pick a specific congregation.LIBERAL??? Ahhhh I don’t think so. You obviously have never been to one of our congregations.
My brother, humility as it is required of us to learn and practice according to our Savior will change your mind frame from thinking you “allow” others to shack your hand to feeling privileged to have others wanting to shack your hand. Humility is a never ending struggle that we must seek to acquire if we are to be pleasing to our Lord in a Christian life. God bless you Brother knight.leaving your pew to give people the sign of peace is not licit though:shrug: . I think I go overbaord by turning around and allow others to shake my hand so that I don’t come across rude. I love to shake hands…but not in mass. It doesn’t feel right.
I think the problem is OUTSIDE OF
MASS.
Mass is not an option.
However God has given us free will, and the ability to think for ourselvs. We use our God given intellect to deside HOW we will fellowship.
How we will study scripture.
How we will praise God in song.
Our protestant brothers and sisters are very good at worship OUTSIDE of MASS because they don’t have mass.
For Catholics we too must fellowship praise God and study scripture OUTSIDE of MASS.
IF someone is good at something, why not learn from them?
But for the fullness of Christianity the discussion groups one takes part in must stay within Catholic FaithI think the problem is OUTSIDE OF

I must admit a rich enjoyment of traditional hymns that are absent in Catholic services. However, I’d rather miss hymns than miss Him.I think the problem is OUTSIDE OF

I was referring to those who are Catholic already but that is a given for them anyway although anyone can be involved. The reason I say that is because of the books that are not in some other Bibles and the varied interpretations.Hi twb,
I have a question for you about the above statement. Are you talking about Bible Study Groups that Catholics attend should not be at a Non-Catholic Church or with those that are not Catholic?
God Bless!
Hi twb,
Hi EC,

Actually my experiences with Catholicism shows it to be the other way round. My brother constantly sins during the week and it’s ok because he goes to confession on Saturday so he can receive the Eucharist on Sunday. Many Catholics are also 2 season Catholics attending Mass on Christmas and Easter. So, I don’t think the moral compass is a good comparison. Many of these problems “solved” by Protestant churches really only pander to those of us Catholics who seek to justify our own moral weaknesses.
So, I guess I should tell my Catholic friends that I have met through my Church Bible Study to leave when I see them on Wednesday. Having Catholics at a Bible Study is a wonderful way for them to share their faith with us and for us to do the same. I believe that the group would be missing something if we stopped reading the Bible together and sharing our love for Jesus Christ. Most of them bring their NRSV-CE Bible which is wonderful to compare with other Bibles being used.I was referring to those who are Catholic already but that is a given for them anyway although anyone can be involved.
I understand what you are saying and the type of class or group you are talking about with each presenting their views based on their Bibles is certainly a wonderful way to go. I was thinking of specific faiths and how they often have Bible study with only one Bible. Thats my misinterpretation, sorry about that. So, I guess I should tell my Catholic friends that I have met through my Church Bible Study to leave when I see them on Wednesday. It’s no different in most Protestant religions. Baptist for example, sin, pray, forgiven, sin, pray, forgiven. I dated a Preachers daughter for several years. I grew up in a strict Protestant Church and I always thought it was funny how some people you only see on Easter and around Christmas. My brother constantly sins during the week and it’s ok because he goes to confession on Saturday so he can receive the Eucharist on Sunday. which is my point. Not a good contrast from the other poster. It’s no different in most Protestant religions. Baptist for example, sin, pray, forgiven, sin, pray, forgiven. There are many weak Christians in all faiths unfortunately but as far as the attitude your brother has, there is no forgiveness without repentance which means sincerity of heart and will to avoid repeating the sin. That is the purpose of Reconciliation. Nothing stands to be forgiven without repentance.Actually my experiences with Catholicism shows it to be the other way round. you and I agree on that point and I often say “you take communion with that mouth?”There are many weak Christians in all faiths unfortunately but as far as the attitude your brother has, there is no forgiveness without repentance which means sincerity of heart and will to avoid repeating the sin.
