Protestantism: A Man-made Religion

2 Peter 2:1- “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition, and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.”

There are thousands of different denominations today, all of them non-Catholic. Even the founding fathers of Protestantism could not agree on major doctrinal points. Thus, the bad fruits of there man-made religion is manifested in all this doctrinal chaos within the Protestant communities.

The Catholic Church is the one, true Church established by Jesus Christ. Outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation.
 
I respectfully disagree with a part of your post: *Outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation. *
I believe there are likely a lot of Protestants in heaven.

Remember that, while our Protestant brethren may not have the complete truth and guidance of the Lord of all, they do possess some truths that, based on what they know, may grant them the opportunity of salvation we Catholics may receive.

A devout Protestant (or any person doing good will in the best way they know how) will only be held liable to God for the truths that they accept and understand (see Christ’s words on this in John 15:18-22). There is salvation outside the eyes of the Church, but it is Christ who brings such people to him directly, rather than through his Church. (CCC 819)

Hi Emily,
Do you apply your statement to Orthodoxy as well, since they are non-Catholic in the sense that they are not in communion with Rome?

Thank you, Spencerian, for a kind and Christian answer to the earlier post.

Ever so often, someone pops up with a post that lashes out at Protestants. Given the grievous sins of some in our own Catholic Church in the news almost every day:o, we might expect a little more humility and soul-searching on our part and a lot less judging of others. At least that is my opinion.🙂

Do you disagree with what the Catholic Church has authoritatively declared as quoted below?

Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, “Cantate Domino,” 1441, ex cathedra:

“The Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the Church before the end of their lives; that the unity of this ecclesiastical body is of such importance that only those who abide in it do the Church’s sacraments contribute to salvation and do fasts, almsgiving and other works of piety and practices of the Christian militia productive of eternal rewards; and that nobody can be saved, no matter how much he has given away in alms and even if he has shed blood in the name of Christ, unless he has persevered in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.”

There is no doubt as to what Pope Eugene IV is saying. He clearly declares that ALL who are outside the “bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.”

To profess otherwise is to reject Catholic dogma.

I disagree. Even if one were to die a Protestant and go to heaven, they will be a Catholic by the time they get there 😉

Correct, however, please define “bosom and unity of the Catholic Church” and then line up your definition with the CCC and see if you agree:
818 “However, one cannot charge with the sin of the separation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such separation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect and affection as brothers . . .** . All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Church**.”

As a Catholic, I am in full agreement with what the Church has always taught on this issue.

"The following statements on Outside the Catholic Church There is No Salvation are from the highest teaching authority of the Catholic Church. They are ex cathedra Papal decrees (decrees from the Chair of St. Peter). Therefore, they constitute the teaching given to the Catholic Church by Jesus Christ and the Apostles. Such teachings are unchangeable and are classified as part of the solemn magisterium (the extraordinary teaching authority of the Catholic Church).

Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, Constitution 1, 1215, ex cathedra:
“There is indeed one universal Church of the faithful, outside of which nobody at all is saved, in which Jesus Christ is both priest and sacrifice.”

Pope Boniface VIII, Unam Sanctam, Nov. 18, 1302, ex cathedra:

Protestantism is indeed a man-made religion for does not have Christ as its founder, but man who rebelled against our Lord’s Church and broke from it.

So the Eastern Orthodox, Coptics, and various Eastern Christian sects are likewise going to hell? Of course they likewise claim apostolic succession and could also claim to have Christ as their founder, yet they do not agree with everything that your Catechism and Church teach.
