Protestantism teaches new doctrines ... so it is not from God.

Protestants do not teach new doctrines, we have just restored the doctines that the Chatholic Church has corrupted.

Novelty is in the eye of the beholder - so it’s impossible to refute assertions made by others. So IMHO discussions of this kind are a waste of time: their only result is the entirely unChristian one of buttressing the self-righteousness of those involved: both are right in their own eyes; neither can, or ever will, convince the other.

St. Paul warns Timothy against fruitless disputes; & not many are more fruitless than those which have to do with the rightness or authenticity of one’s churchmanship. And I don’t recall any NT example of building up the rightness of one’s own belief on the ruins of another - something is not right with a form of religion which depends on undermining others in order to be secure.

If God had meant us to be saved through argument, St. Paul would not have called Christ Crucified the Wisdom of God; the “wise man” & the “debater of this age” would have been more than enough to save us.

Protestant didn’t restore anything. Since they have came into existence since the 1530s they have brought nothing but divisions and teach contradictory teachings concerning the Word of God.

The Catholic Church doctrine concerning moral and faith remain unchanged because God taught it.

Protestants are just wrong to come into existence and they just keep on dividing. They don’t even put the authority of the Church at any level as they do Scripture. They divide it.

Transubstantiation was taught by Jesus, the Apostles, and ECFs?
Yes it is.

The Didache or “The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles” is a manuscript which was used by 2nd century bishops and priests for the instruction of catechumens. Many early Christian writers have referenced it making this document relatively easy to date.

“Let no one eat and drink of your Eucharist but those baptized in the name of the Lord; to this, too the saying of the Lord is applicable: ‘Do not give to dogs what is sacred’”.

-Ch. 9:5

“On the Lord’s own day, assemble in common to break bread and offer thanks; but first confess your sins, so that your sacrifice may be pure. However, no one quarreling with his brother may join your meeting until they are reconciled; your sacrifice must not be defiled. For here we have the saying of the Lord: ‘In every place and time offer me a pure sacrifice; for I am a mighty King, says the Lord; and my name spreads terror among the nations.’”

-Ch 14

St. Ignatius became the third bishop of Antioch, succeeding St. Evodius, who was the immediate successor of St. Peter. He heard St. John preach when he was a boy and knew St. Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna. Seven of his letters written to various Christian communities have been preserved. Eventually, he received the martyr’s crown as he was thrown to wild beasts in the arena.

“Consider how contrary to the mind of God are the heterodox in regard to the grace of God which has come to us. They have no regard for charity, none for the widow, the orphan, the oppressed, none for the man in prison, the hungry or the thirsty. They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not admit that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, the flesh which suffered for our sins and which the Father, in His graciousness, raised from the dead.”

“Letter to the Smyrnaeans”, paragraph 6. circa 80-110 A.D.

“Come together in common, one and all without exception in charity, in one faith and in one Jesus Christ, who is of the race of David according to the flesh, the son of man, and the Son of God, so that with undivided mind you may obey the bishop and the priests, and break one Bread which is the medicine of immortality and the antidote against death, enabling us to live forever in Jesus Christ.”

-“Letter to the Ephesians”, paragraph 20, c. 80-110 A.D.

“I have no taste for the food that perishes nor for the pleasures of this life. I want the Bread of God which is the Flesh of Christ, who was the seed of David; and for drink I desire His Blood which is love that cannot be destroyed.”

-“Letter to the Romans”, paragraph 7, circa 80-110 A.D.

“Take care, then who belong to God and to Jesus Christ - they are with the bishop. And those who repent and come to the unity of the Church - they too shall be of God, and will be living according to Jesus Christ. Do not err, my brethren: if anyone follow a schismatic, he will not inherit the Kingdom of God. If any man walk about with strange doctrine, he cannot lie down with the passion. Take care, then, to use one Eucharist, so that whatever you do, you do according to God: for there is one Flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ, and one cup in the union of His Blood; one altar, as there is one bishop with the presbytery and my fellow servants, the deacons.”

-Epistle to the Philadelphians, 3:2-4:1, 110 A.D.

Justin Martyr was born a pagan but converted to Christianity after studying philosophy. He was a prolific writer and many Church scholars consider him the greatest apologist or defender of the faith from the 2nd century. He was beheaded with six of his companions some time between 163 and 167 A.D.

“This food we call the Eucharist, of which no one is allowed to partake except one who believes that the things we teach are true, and has received the washing for forgiveness of sins and for rebirth, and who lives as Christ handed down to us. For we do not receive these things as common bread or common drink; but as Jesus Christ our Savior being incarnate by God’s Word took flesh and blood for our salvation, so also we have been taught that the food consecrated by the Word of prayer which comes from him, from which our flesh and blood are nourished by transformation, is the flesh and blood of that incarnate Jesus.”

" First Apology", Ch. 66, inter A.D. 148-155.

“God has therefore announced in advance that all the sacrifices offered in His name, which Jesus Christ offered, that is, in the Eucharist of the Bread and of the Chalice, which are offered by us Christians in every part of the world, are pleasing to Him.”

“Dialogue with Trypho”, Ch. 117, circa 130-160 A.D.

Moreover, as I said before, concerning the sacrifices which you at that time offered, God speaks through Malachias, one of the twelve, as follows: ‘I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord; and I will not accept your sacrifices from your hands; for from the rising of the sun until its setting, my name has been glorified among the gentiles; and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a clean offering: for great is my name among the gentiles, says the Lord; but you profane it.’ It is of the sacrifices offered to Him in every place by us, the gentiles, that is, of the Bread of the Eucharist and likewise of the cup of the Eucharist, that He speaks at that time; and He says that we glorify His name, while you profane it."

-“Dialogue with Trypho”, [41: 8-10]

Allis,

How many times have the Protestant Churches “restored” the Doctrines, could be over 30,000 times. The Truth is there is over 30,000 Protestant Churches alone in the USA and each have their own beliefs of doctrine…Now don’t this sound corrupted!

This should tell you that Protestantism, is Wrong!

Tell us does Protestantism teaches the same teaching? If you look they lack any authoritiative Church. They refer to the doctrine of Bible Alone. A Doctrine which separate.

In Catholicism however, it teaches that Word of God is Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and a interpreter the Magisterium (Teaching Office of the Church). That is why when it comes to moral and faith issues, the Catholic Church all over teaches the same doctrines. We don’t find this teachings in Protestantism.

Protestantism equals divisions. It does not equal unity.

Hi Mannyfit,

The Catholic Church is the True Church of Jesus Christ, the only church of Jesus Christ, He set none other!

I too believe that protestantism is wrong, and we must pray for unity, we must pray for them to come back home, like the prodigal son.

Jesus Mary Joseph be with you.

If they seek the Truth, the Holy Spirit will move them and hopefully they will enter the Church. Through their baptism, they are a member of the Catholic Church provided that they use the Trinitarian formula. Their union with the Church is imperfect because they have one or two sacraments.

You are creating a strawman. Something that does not exist actually. You take a term, Protestant, and attack it for not being unifed; when the term itself has nothing to do with such. This concept is bizarre to me. There is no Protestant Church.
Divisions began with Catholicism; not the other way around. The Catholic Church started it all. Its like a mother blaming her kids for bickering and not getting along when she and Dad split up 500 years before…

Oh please. Division originated with the sins of men. It is sin that cause the Schism of 1054 with the Eastern Orthodox and it is sin that lead to the Protestant Reformation. Divisions did not begin with Catholicism. It begins with us.

The Church Church is 2,000 yrs old. It is the pillar and bulwark of truth.

Sin? Sure, and an honest difference of opinion…don’t you think? My point remains; long long ago…the division started in the Catholic Church. That is just a historical fact. Orthodox and Catholic split. You guys want to act like Luther was not a Catholic!. The Catholic Church split first. Face up to the facts

Divisions have always been a part of Church history. Look the Judaizers in Acts, not to mention the Arianism. In fact in 325 AD, the majority of the Church then were Arians. There were very few orthodox Christians who remain obedient to centralize belief of the Trinity.

I have face the facts. Have you? The Church Church didn’t split. It maintain core doctrines. It fought heresy. It is the heretics and schismatics who separated from the Church.

So any church that maintains its core doctrines does not count as a split? You have to be consistent with this. With this logic, any group that seperates from any church is not a split; they are just heretics?
The point remains Mom and Dad split up. Then their kids starting splitting up too. Mom is blaming the kids. Its a good analogy. Thats a fact!😉

No. The cause of the split is the sins of men on both sides.

I am. You have to understand what the CC teaches in its entirety. In the summary of all things, Jesus is what is taught of in the Church.

When the Church became Schmatic in 1054, the bishops became disobedient and separated itself from the Pope who is the successor of Peter. Separating from the Church of Jesus Christ is un-Biblical in itself. Where does it say in the Bible that if you disagree, you can split? Jesus himself said, when we have disagreements we take to the Church. That is the Church universal.

It is the same with Martin Luther in 1530, and others that follow his path. What right do they have to cause the split? When Jesus himself prayed that we all be ONE. Contradictory words for those who decide to split with the Church.

Mom and Dad split because of Sin. Sin cause division. That is the point I am trying to make. It is pointless for you debate with me because you can’t grasp what the Truth is.

So sin caused the division. The children are still sinning and Mom is upset about THEIR sin. Different terms same analogy.

Essentially, you are engaging in ineffective apologetics Manny. Billy Joel has a song you know, “we didn’t start the fire”. Methodists did not start this whole mess; you guys and the Orthodox did. Don’t blame us man 😉
Oh…and I like unity. For anyone who knows me 😃

IMO I don’t see how you can equate the church with “Mom and Dad”. The Church is God/Jesus/Holy Spirit (3 in one) sinless. Mom and Dad are two different beings (human-sinners). Having two ideas to begin with. Not one thought obviously if they split. Although, I can see the Catholic Church as the parent and the children go wayward and split and do their own thing.

God bless

He missed that point that the Church in the beginning is One Church, and the Head of the Church is Jesus and that the Church is the Bride of the Lamb. Do you think Church ceases to be Christ’s Church when the split happened? I don’t think so. BrianH never understood this, if he truly did, he would be Catholic.

You are so wrong. Sin caused Division. You cannot accused Churches to be blame. The members of the Church is the cause for it. The Church itself does not. Humans are imperfect but the Church maintain to be Holy because the Soul of the Church is the Holy Spirit.

If you favor unity become Catholic and cease to be Protestant.

Protestants do not teach new doctrines, we have just restored the doctines that the Chatholic Church has corrupted.
Please do elaborate.

I believe that I have heard this same statement somewhere else, Korea; when I was serving in the US ARMY I came across an episcopalian who said the same thing. I didn’t argue with him I just let him go one his way due to the lack of knowledge that I had at the time. I should have asked him to explain further, though I do remember the first thing that came out of his mouth was the “the King James Bible was the first bible” LOL:rotfl:that one was pretty funny, and he brought up the Ten Commandments.

It is interesting that you believe that the Protestants are/have restored the doctrine when they have added and omitted from the scriptures to suite their own self-interested desires to begin with.

Whatever books of the LXX (SEPTUAGINT) that are not part of the Hebrew Bible, the Protestants call Apocrypha, meaning “hidden.” Anything outside of the LXX, Protestants call Pseudepigrapha, meaning “false writings.”

Catholics call the books accepted by the Jews Protocanonical, meaning the “first canon.” The others listed form the Deuterocanonical books, the “second canon”. All the rest they call Apocrypha.

If a person does not agree with infallible Catholic doctrine, you cannot join in good conscience.
