The Reformation was mainly about politics, money, and corrupt church leaders. As a soldier, Manny, you of all people should know that you cannot abide corrupt rulers and leadership. Jesus himself protested the powers that be in the Temple amidst corrupt commerce taking place in the Temple.
Today, the Church, Protestant and Catholic alike, has been guilty of covering up sexual abuse cases that church leadership clearly knew about and yet did nothing.
It is a sad consequence that the Reformation rift could not be healed before the damage was done, I agree. The earlier schism of 1054 is also lamentable. There is plenty of blame to be shared.

I can accept what you said here but I would also have to say that the Reformation was absolutely necessary because of the abuses that the RC turned a blind eye to in the 16th century. If they would have acknowledged their wrongdoing and respectfully made an attempt to reform the church, the Reformation may have not happened. I see this same kind of arrogance and uncooperative actions surrounding the child sexual abuse scandal.

Last I checked the Christian Reformed Church wasn’t being sued in total amounts over a billion dollars due to their male clergy engaging in homosexual acts with minors. Now, what was it that scripture says about homosexuals???

Only because they haven’t got that kind of money, and no one has an agenda against their clergy for being “too holy.”
The same thing that the Catechism says about it, and always will say about it - it is sinfully disordered behaviour. Notice that not even one single Catholic priest, whether involved in the scandal or not, ever suggested that homosexuality should be taken off the list of sins. (And if you know of any that did, then you probably also noticed that they aren’t Catholic anymore.) Those men knew they were sinners, and didn’t try to justify themselves in the eyes of the world.
By contrast, there are many Protestant organizations that are currently moving openly to ordain actively homosexual clergy, and to institute “blessing ceremonies” for homosexual “marriages.” (If they declare it to not be a sin, will it prevent them from being sued when the inevitable happens?)

If your organization doesn’t have deep pockets, no one is going to waste time filing suit. Additionally, if your organization doesn’t keep good records that can be subpoenaed, then the case is harder to prove.
The Catholic Church has deeper pockets and does keep records.
And the press loves the story.

Sorry, I am not convinced that all of these are anything more than feeble attempts to soft peddal this travesty and make excuses for it. Sure, every denomination has its issues and some are similar to this scandal, I will grant you that. But, nothing ever in my lifetime in the name of religion has ever came close to the magnitude of thise, I don’t care how you try and divert my focus or that of the mainstream media. This happened and it was a huge huge deal, plain and simple.

The sad thing to all this is the Catholic Church did not come forward with this and expose it. It hide the truth until it was forced to come clean by the courts and expose the records. It is not the Churchs fault that it happen, but it is their fault that it continued to happen for so long with thier knowledge.
The Church did just the opposite as what it teaches, but that is to be expected when the Church is run by man and man is sinful.
