Well I remember reading somehwre (whish I had the source) that there were Protestants observers at the Council of Trent as well. I don’t see anything wrong with have other denominations be observers, and I really doub’t 6 protestant figures had any power on voting in the council. In saying this though, I do have a nasty view of Bugini, may he RIP. But I will leave it at that.

Wonder how he felt about halloween ?

just kidding !

😛

I guess I misread the post then. I thought I was replying to the issue of six Protestant “observers” when Bugnini was writing his Mass, not Vatican II.
Msgr Bugnini did not “write” the mass. There was a consilium, a commission of experts that revised the Mass. I have a book, which I can’t find right now, that explained the entire process of the development of the Mass of Paul VI, including the names of all the experts involved in the project. When I find it I will post the names of those people, mostly priests (if not all) I believe.

It’s actually not that difficult to debunk the claim. The date when the Protestants entered the scene was 1966. But we have the drafts of the new Mass from the group charged with that task. If you look earlier, as early as 1964, or even to the document presented to the Fathers who were voting on Sacrosanctum Concilium, many of the most debated changes attributed to the Protestants are already forseen or listed. The thing was that except for a couple of these documents, until relatively late in the last century, the schemas were not open to public view and no one really bothered to go and look them up.

I thought I saw him at a HIM concert !
Lol man those HIM concerts are going to leave you deaf! lol
I am sure he was the drummer, he likes loud scandal so being a drummer would be best option.
Man I am terrible lol.

What is the “new Mass”?

Are you talking moving from Latin Masses to English Masses?
The 1970 Missal is generally referred to as the “new” Mass. The vernacular (not just English) in the Mass, however, already started appearing in the liturgy much earlier. This was perhaps influenced by the Protestants? Why were they there at all? Just some questions I have had for a while.

I don’t get all this. I have the old Maryknoll Missal with the Latin on the left and English on the right. Seems to me that the elements of the Mass have not changed. Now I read we’re getting a new Missal. Will some consider that another “new Mass?”

Forget the English for a second, that seems to be clouding the issue.

We now have two forms of the Mass, that of Blessed John XXIII (Extraordinary Form) and the Pauline Missal (Ordinary Form). Both forms were promulgated in Latin. The Ordinary Form (formerly called the “New Mass”) was translated into many vernaculars in the late 60’s, one of the vernaculars being the English. This same form in the English vernacular is being retranslated to another English version. It’s still the OF. It’s not a new Mass. Hope that helps.

Ok ok, people, after all these years I must finally confess:

I wrote the “New Mass,” along with 5 of my friends. It was indeed a conspiracy. No, I don’t regret it. And I’d do it again!!! 😃
