Do you believe Jesus required spanking/discipline? If so, how often do you think? Do you think Mary was a typical teenager? Did she require a lot of discipline and why? Just interested in the multitude of beliefs.
When I was Protestant, my answer would have been the same as a Catholic. Jesus is the sinless Lamb of God.
My answer for Mary back then would have been different. But I fear the question (as poised by your mother) reveals a simplistic view of 1st century Jewish culture and practice. One cannot bring 21st century thinking into a culture and time that was completely different. A fact I would have recognized as a Protestant as well.

It appears that the title has now been changed, adding the word, “Protestant” to meet the poster’s intention to address only Protestants.
Sometimes it helps to point out the facts, and apparently the OP has changed the title that so may avoid further disappointment, which is the clarification suggested in my last post. Even so it could be confusing that such a post may not be challenged by Catholics!

It is the wife beating question.
Not, “Did you beat your wife”, but 'When did you last beat your wife," which presupposes that you did in fact beat your wife,
and in like manner “How often did Mary spank Jesus?” presupposes that she did!

However, no further comment! 🙂 Over to our Protestant brothers and sisters, as the OP desires!

I believe Jesus of Nazareth was raised as any other child during that period in history by Jewish parents. He grew in wisdom…he was fully human in every way…I’m sure if he made “foolish” mistakes growing up and had to be disiplined by Joseph…that “disipline” was part of his “growth” in wisdom.

Jesus was/is without sin. If he was punished it was in error.

Scripture never made the claim that Mary was without sin. She likely required guidance and instruction just like other children, although she obviously had favor with God and a purity of heart that is not typical of mere mortals.

I always laugh a little at the threads asking protestants a question and then all the catholic answer. 🙂

Honestly I’ve never thought about it and don’t see any reason as to why I should.

The thing is, when the thread was first posted, there was no indication that the OP was only looking for Protestants/Non-Catholics opinions and answers to the questions. The title was only changed after he berated Catholics for responding. That’s what happens when people aren’t clear about who their target ‘audience’ is, when posting a thread. 🤷

Interesting responses. I know many non-Catholics, including my own mother ] that do not believe the same as Catholics. I presented this question in order to open a dialogue with non-Catholics, NOT Catholics, because I already know what Catholics generally believe because I’m Catholic. Now that you’ve all expressed yourselves in a multitude of appropriate and inappropriate, IMHO, I doubt that any non-Catholic will feel compelled to open a dialogue in response. You’ve chased them away.
If you can’t handle the hot water discussing this topic, then don’t respond. Many believe Mary was only a virgin with Jesus and afterwards did like all other women and had sex and children with Joseph. IN fact, they also do not believe that Mary was sinless. It could have been a good discussion, but you’ve thrown the Protestants in front of the bus, which is not charitable in my honest opinion. I try to reach people where they’re at, not where I’m at.

Twice, my own mother called Mary something I can’t even say and would be banned if I just posted what she said about Mary all because she found out I was considering becoming a priest. She offended everyone and made Archie Bunker look tame. She was the embarrassment of my life and literally wrote me out of her Will for taking such conservative Catholic/Christian views. She was also a bigot and my own prejudiced/idiotic brother described her as the “Grand Wizzard” of the Klu Klux Klan. Sad, but true. She died leaving her grandchildren nothing and manipulated my brother’s girlfriend into having an abortion. I wanted to see if this sense of being existed among others who do not accept Mary without sin or Jesus as not needing discipline. Could have been helpful to me to let my own Protestant family off the hook.

Note: SOme of your responses were quite respectful and intelligently presented. Others, well, let’s just say we need some lessons.😊
With all do respect, perhaps you should go to Protestant Answers . Com to open discussion.

Here are some of my views on life with the young Jesus. First off Joseph strikes me as having been a good earthly Father to our Lord, and a man who gave Jesus all the tools to succeed. Further I believe he was a laid back easy going guy who more or less let Mary have her way. The same might be said about Mary Our Blessed Mother was a loving Woman who not only cared about Jesus, She loved Joseph very much… I figure she was also a quiet, back of the crowd sort of Girl, and this is one of the reasons God chose her Now Jesus came here to save us from Death and Sin, but the New Testament paints a picture of a man who by accounts was disrespectful to Mary on a few occasions As I said The wedding at Cana, and the death of her Brother Lazarus. He refered to her as Woman several times ( This was a recognized, and permitted manner of addressing a woman back then) She had little or no rights in Jesus day. Still she was his Mother. Tell me what would happen if one of us referred to our Mother as Woman (are you serious?) None the less I do not believe that Jesus depite Biblical Depictions was a good and loving son to both Mary and Joseph. I have a feeling that when Joseph died, our Heavenly Father opened the gates of Heaven for him. He is pictured as having died in the arms of Jesus. The official cause of his death to this day is unknown. Mary is said to have reached that point not long after Jesus ascended into heaven. She was probably in her early to mid fifties, when she was assumed into Heaven. All of what I have said here is speculation and my own opinion

You left out a comma and changed the wording of my question. Troll much? 🙂

I’m seriously debating whether or not you’re really Catholic, at all. If you are, then you seem to have had a very limited education in what the Bible or the Church actually teaches, and really don’t know very much about Mary or Jesus, either.

Have you read any of the other posts in this thread?

The real question is: what does the Catholic church teach about Mary spanking our Lord?

The real question is: what does the Catholic church teach about Mary spanking our Lord?
“in favor with God and man” Luke 2:52

To respond to your question: I did give answer from the official Catechism of the Catholic Church in post #38 of this thread,
(but the question is not one that arises amongst Catholics due to our respect for the Lord’s goodness)
however it has emerged that the OP does not wish Catholics to respond, but intends the question for Protestants.

God bless you. 🙂
