Catholic = wide-ranging, broad, wide-reaching, all-embracing, extensive, varied.

Universal = worldwide, widespread, general, common, collective, total, entire, complete.

I would like to add a word to the word “Catholic” and that is “believer”.

“Believer”, in this case is in Jesus.

Therefore, all who believe in Jesus could be said to be Catholic, if the world Catholic means universal.

Notice I said “all who believe”?

Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

“Whosever will” is a universal invitation, and if whoever thirsts after God shall not be disappointed.

So, if we are all believers in Jesus, why the argument?

Blessing’s, AJ
Because the “Universal” church IS the Catholic church. It is meant for “All people” to join it. My priest says every Mass, “Come and let us pray in God’s Universal church.”

Are you not content that I know Jesus personally? Must I at your beckoning submit to your conscience… of the church?

Why, I am totally content and happy that you know Jesus, that you pertain to the Catholic Church and one which keeps you in line.

As for me, if my love for God does not motivate me to keep me in line, then the church as you know it, won’t ether.

The heart has to be in the right place with God, or better said in right standing with God to effect any change in the physical to conform it.

That is at the core of each soul.

It has to start there, it has to be born there, and from there grow spiritually to wards maturity in spirit.

Simply going to church, taking communion, confessing your sins means nothing unless the heart is in it to please God.

My life has to reflect the goodness of God, as an individual first, and then collectively in a church, and not the other way around.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for your views and can only tell you that there is much more to learn, but not until we are ready.

And ready is when the Holy Spirit deems you’ve experienced the need for further revelations of understanding.

I would venture to state that if you continue to search out the things of God, your present view of understandings, will be enhanced, and improved towards a more mature view.

Keep my words handy, for some day I will hear from you.

Blessing’s, AJ

Peter J,
I am on a journey and it may end at the Catholic Church. I have a beaytiful wife, six children and 10 grand children. They depend on me to guide them and be spiritual leader of my family. My extended family is a blend of different races and religions. With that being said I can’t stand prejudice. Most Catholics I come across are beautyful, I have a problem with OTCA’s prejudice against other Christians. I’m hear to learn and fellowship, her redrick gets in the way of my journey. I hope this makes sense?🤷
Yeah, that makes sense.

BTW, I think that Catholic discussion forums – not just CAF but Catholic discussion forums in general – tend to attract a lot of “anti-Protestant” Catholics. There’s Catholics of all varieties here, mind you, but a definite over-representation of “anti-Protestant” Catholics, in my experience. (And conversely, I think Protestant discussion forums tend to have an over-representation of “anti-Catholic” Protestants.)

**Hi Peter J,

Cool. 🙂

This was probably clear in my earlier posts, but I’ll say it anyways just in case: When I said that there are a lot of “anti-Protestant” Catholic posters, I wasn’t thinking of any one specific poster (least of all OTCA, since I haven’t read what she wrote, and don’t plan on going back and reading it now) but rather of a general trend. (Conversely, when I said that Protestant discussion forums tend to have an over-representation of “anti-Catholic” Protestants, I wasn’t think of any one specific Protestant, or even of any one specific Protestant discussion forum.)

God bless,

Good Morning to you all Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am saddened that the person posted this question has stereotyped the Body of Christ! I am a Born Again CATHOLIC! is there such thing? To be a born again Catholic, you must first understand that you must not have a religion but a personal relationship with our one True God in Christ JESUS! Second, Only the WORD of GOD can JUDGE & CORRECT the believers. Yes true enough we have traditions to consider but when our LORD JESUS came, He corrected all these traditions. JESUS LIVED the WORD! The WORD came to LIFE. I Love the richness of traditions in our Catholic Faith but it is an enhancement to our FAITH not the way to our SALVATION. In the verse you have quoted in this thread is just a reminder that we are going to be judge according to the product of our Faith in CHRIST JESUS. Nothing or no one can outdo what was done for us by CHRIST JESUS to earn our salvation. When JESUS looked up into Heaven on his final moments here on Earth and said “IT IS FINISHED.” That’s the end of all our Traditions! My brother and sister in CHRIST, the most important thing we must understand is that THERE is NO ONE who can give us our Salvation but through CHRIST JESUS alone. HE left us the greatest commandment " TO LOVE THE LORD OUR GOD WITH ALL OUR HEARTH, SOUL, STRENGTH and TO LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS AS WE LOVE OURSELVES". This Commandments covers all the commandments! If you understand these you won’t ask such question " for you protestants answer this verse…!" This is prejudice! There is no room for prejudice in the Kingdom of GOD.
The only one source to check our FAITH is - THE WORD OF GOD…
If you claimed that you LOVE GOD, then study not read HIS WORDS and it will SET YOU FREE.
For those who says I don’t need to study or read the BIBLE, where do you think you can confirm and affirm your FAITH?
For those who says our SALVATION lays in Our BLESSED MOTHER? What do you think the ROSARY TEACHES or SAYS? Our Blessed Mother in all her life points to JESUS and it Saddened Her to see that our FOCUS shifts to someone or something else!
LOVE and KNOW our Saviour More and More Each Day. If Mother Mary, Our Pope, Saints and Angels will help you achieved that then More Power to you!
The Bottom Line is JESUS is the Way, The Truth and the Life… No one can come to the FATHER but by HIM only… GOD Bless and Continue to Defend our Faith by LOVING our ENEMIES through CHRIST JESUS.

Brother Rommelh
Hi Brother Rommelh,

I might suggest to you to get a copy of Scott Hahns “The Fourth Cup” he explains well what Jesus meant by “It is Finished” hanging on the cross. Years ago I belonged to Calvary Chapel in Coasta Measa where Chuck Smith was Pastor. I stop going because of all the anti-Catholic stuff. Might I suggest you go to
www.salvation history.com and get “Fourth cup” and “A Father that Keeps his Promises” it help me see the beauty of the Catholic Faith.🙂
Peace be with you

Thank you brother for the suggested book but for me I only need The HOLY BIBLE and if the WORD of GOD says it, I BELIEVED it and that SETTLES it!!!
I am deeply sorry that CALVARY CHAPEL did not fulfill the fullness of your personal relationship with CHRIST. But it is not CALVARY CHAPEL or the CATHOLIC CHurch will bring your enlightment but the the HOLY SPIRIT through HIS WORDS… All the books in the world about GOD boils down to ONE THING " LOVE, LOVE, LOVE… 1CORINTHIANS 13

Again, if you listen to FM 107.9 carefully with LOVE in your HEART they are not bashing the CATHOLIC FAITH but explaining what the WORD of GOD says regarding some issues in the truthfulness of our FAITH. My brother a true WISEMAN knows how to save his soul and when it comes to eternal life I want to be 100% sure that I will spend it with CHRIST JESUS. I will not compromise my eternal life with 1% chance of not making it! All other beliefs have the 1% or even more for some chance of missing the point but THE WORD OF GOD is 100% full proof! Why Compromise it! Why read other books! The only problem you will encounter in Studying the Word of GOD is it will CONVICT you. The question is “Are you afraid to FACE the TRUTH?” are you ready to have a personal relationship with your true GOD? or you still want to hide using RELIGION!
If you are ready then READ ROMANS 8

This sounds more like a Protestant than a Catholic’s beliefs. Protestants always say have a “personal” relationship with the Lord because Luther came up with that word in the 15th century…no where is it mentioned in the bible the word “personal”. I always say my "awakening, instead of “born again”.
Furthermore, the Catholic church IS the answer because after all, Christ established it. Do you believe this?

Well do I believed it? Well I believed in my Heart that JESUS came to die for my sins and ROSE again from the dead so I can have Eternal Life!

I am color blind when it comes to FAITH for there is NO PROTESTANT or CATHOLIC in the body of CHRIST!!! What is important is that that I AM NOTHING WITHOUT CHRIST! "CHRISTian… this is what JESUS established…

JESUS established his CHURCH not in a confinement of space but in your HEART! We are the CHURCH not the VATICAN!

Once again STUDY the WORD of GOD and it will SET you FREE!!!

Don’t be afraid to SEE the TRUTH and GOD will reveal it to you through His WORDS. I hope you open your Heart and Mind into the Goodness of GOD through his WORDS…

That’s a nice sentiment; but the question is, How far do we carry it?

Suppose, instead of Catholics and Protestants, we were talking about Christians with Christological differences. Would you say “There is no Arian or Nicene in the body of Christ”?

Hi Rommelh,
I can see that you have made an assumption that I do not have a relationship with Jesus or read the Sacred Scriptures I’m not Catholic yet I can see the beauty in the Catholic Church straight from Scripture. I don’t go to Churches that bash other faiths, that is not what Jesus did. You are right about love and a relationship with Jesus Christ. You are also right to say Scripture says it, I believe it, that’s the end of it. Funny thing is I see the beauty of many Christian faiths in Scripture and Catholic is one of those. I recommended good reading from a Scholar if you are not open to it, so be it. I only need the Sacred Scriptures too, they have taught me respect of all Christ Churches. I read other books to get other Christian Faiths point of view. It doesn’t change my core belief that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Ignorance has always lead to prejudice some thing personally I can’t stand. I Corinthians 13 talks of love and if we don’t read Scripture with out Love and the Holy Spirit we are a banging gong a clashing symbol.Don’t be too closed minded and think you have all the answer, after the Devil knew Jesus Christ was the Savior of the world and he also knew Scripture.Peace i your Journey with Jesus Christ and run the good race. As for me and my house we shall love and serve the Lord.
God Bless

Good Morning to you all Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am saddened that the person posted this question has stereotyped the Body of Christ! I am a Born Again CATHOLIC! is there such thing? In the verse you have quoted in this thread is just a reminder that we are going to be judge according to the product of our Faith in CHRIST JESUS. Nothing or no one can outdo what was done for us by CHRIST JESUS to earn our salvation. Brother Rommelh
Well said Brother, I also belong to a Calvary Chapel

rommelh,
Your comments are not in the teachings of the Catholic faith, so why even say you are Catholic? What makes you a Catholic? You have contradicted yourself already twice here. Do you believe Christ founded the Catholic church? Yes or no?

If anybody wants to further their knowledge on the mysteries of God, let me tell you that you will not find information in the Catholic Church or the Protestant churches.

And I will tell you why that is.

First, the bible is interpreted according to what ever church you belong to.

That narrows the scope of beliefs to their interpretations and none others.

Now, if you feel and know that you are on solid ground, I mean, your faith is not easily shaken by new revelations, then you are on your way to deeper understandings of the word of God.

In high school, each grade taught you what was pertinent to your age and ability to comprehend.
It was very important that you receive basic instructions in the various subjects, so that one day you could use them to your benefit.

Consider if you will, grades from one through 12 as your church.

After you graduate from school you can ether remain in the same school of thought or progress to higher learning’s.

The bible is a book for all ages, times and places.

It is written so that the young can get instructions, and for the older to learn truths.

The fruit of the tree was not an apple, as you later found out and animal sacrifice is not an option to, as you found out.

What else is there that you no longer see as a child, but now see it as an adult?

Studying the bible with intent to know your God better will reveal new things not found in the traditional modes.

I personally have nothing against any religious belief except those who would teach hate.

Blessing’s, AJ

Remember, the Church came before the Bible. Before the New Testament. People spoke through Tradition as did Jesus. Orally. 😉

Thank you distracted. I know the Catholic Church doe not teach that non Catholics go to hell, I’m just tired of OTCA’s post saying only Catholics are saved. I came here to learn, not to hear someones prejudice and redrick.Thank you for actualy backing me up from OTCA.:clapping:
peace be with you
you call yourself Christian… So, you are not Catholic Christian?

just wondering about your spiritual background… approx age??

are you considering becoming Catholic??

If anybody wants to further their knowledge on the mysteries of God, let me tell you that you will not find information in the Catholic Church or the Protestant churches.
not true… My testimony (life story) proves this… I didn’t find moral truth until i became fully Catholic… (very long story but will share what i can if necessary)…
And I will tell you why that is.
First, the bible is interpreted according to what ever church you belong to.
you say this because you do not understand Catholicism… There was a time when i didn’t either…
That narrows the scope of beliefs to their interpretations and none others.
Jesus gave us a Church we can trust… I know its hard to believe we can trust anything in this crazy, sinful world, but the Church is the only thing we can trust…
Consider if you will, grades from one through 12 as your church.
After you graduate from school you can ether remain in the same school of thought or progress to higher learning’s.
How… for example, would one “progress” from, say, the teachings of Humanae Vitae (spelling?)

One does not progress beyond absolute truth… as one would… say, progress in learning the intricacies of the various sciences… In other words, once a person knows that things like fornication and abortion (etc, etc) are very wrong & offensive to God and have horrible consequences… the only progression to be made is in conforming to those teachings with all one’s heart/soul/body/mind… Morality is not like science (or whatever…)…
I personally have nothing against any religious belief except those who would teach hate.
Blessing’s, AJ
hate is not always bad.

It is good and necessary to HATE evil… and if that means sometimes appearing to hate those who practice it… well, so be it… The world is always going to accuse us of such things… We hate homosexuality so we hate homosexuals… (so tiresome  )

Jesus even told us to HATE our brother, sister, mother, father… children… evne our very lives…

It has to start there, it has to be born there, and from there grow spiritually to wards maturity in spirit.

Simply going to church, taking communion, confessing your sins means nothing unless the heart is in it to please God.
i totally agree… and it is true that there are too many Catholics who just go to Church on Sunday… maybe even a few days during the wk… but are NOT exactly in love with Jesus… or so it seems from their odd behavior…
I appreciate your enthusiasm for your views and can only tell you that there is much more to learn, but not until we are ready.
there is always a lot to learn… We humans are so ignorant of so many things… but that is why God gave us a Church… so that we can know Him… and hIs laws… When Jesus was asked how one can get to Heaven, Jesus told him to keep God’s laws… How can we keep them if we don’t know them? So God gave us the Roman Catholic Church… No other church goes back to the time of Christ and the Apostles… He promised it would not fall to the devil (St Mt 16:18)
And ready is when the Holy Spirit deems you’ve experienced the need for further revelations of understanding.
no argument there…
I would venture to state that if you continue to search out the things of God, your present view of understandings, will be enhanced, and improved towards a more mature view.
*hopefully you are not saying that there is such a thing as a “more mature view” that contradicts Catholic teaching?? *

BTW, I think that Catholic discussion forums – not just CAF but Catholic discussion forums in general – tend to attract a lot of “anti-Protestant” Catholics. .)
i used to get very irate @ Protestants who would argue to the death some Protesant belief or another… but then i began to realize (duh) that they are just ignorant… They were not taught the Faith… Heck, i wasn’t taught the faith myself when a child… had to teach myself as a not-so-young adult - ( i am a cradle Catholic, went to Sun Mass while growing up andthat was IT )…

We should not be taking our anger out on Protestants who do not know better…

Our anger should be directed instead at those in the Church who know the Faith and yet for some strange reason or another  do not want to teach it …
