ahhh … great point… and i agree with you.
heaven is outside of time… and will not bend to what is stated by the pope.
So when he is told this, it really means that he, if teaching on faith and morals, is cooperating or 100% in line with (the perfect) heaven.
This is EXACTLY why the faith and morals taught by the church are done so INFALLIBLY… because it is ***already ***true in heaven.

Thanks for the tidbit on Greek. VERY helpful.

good try…but what it shows is a lack of the authority you wish to see.

Paul persecuted Jesus’ church.
When Jesus meets Paul on the road to Damascus, Jesus says “Why do you persecute me?”.

What would be the difference if Jesus had said, “Why do you persecute my church?” or “Why do you persecute my body?”. ?

Please do not think that we follow blindly without testing or understanding what is being taught. This simply isn’t true.

regarding ‘those who wish to retain their power’… and what power is that? … the Church only claims the power to teach.

These last comments show a prejudice against the Catholic Church that has nothing to do with scripture, doctrine, or study.
c’mon … soften up a little.
The Church isn’t the ‘bad guy’ you have been taught that it is.

michel
No, its the illegitimate guy I KNOW it is…and Christ identifies Himself with ALL believers, nit just your magesterium. You take that notion to claim power there too that you dont really have. Control is power, and what better control than to say that what I say is what God says, if you disagree, you go to hell. Nice power trip.

so help me out.
when told ‘what you bind on earth, **is **bound in heaven’

is = (has been, is, will be … since heaven is outside of time)

what is this *action *on earth that He’s talking about … what is binding? … better stated … *what *on earth is being bound?

michel

You misunderstand me to think my definition of ‘church’ is the magesterium. The church is the entire community that Jesus founded. So we are closer to agreement here than opposition.

The point about the Damascus road was not about the power of the pope, it was about Jesus equating himself with the church.
You said that scripture does not equate Jesus with the church, and I was simply showing that Jesus himself made this reference.
You take that notion to claim power there too that you dont really have. Control is power, and what better control than to say that what I say is what God says, if you disagree, you go to hell. Nice power trip.
Neither the Catholic Church or any priest within will say that person X is going to hell. We simply do not claim to know this.

c’mon … hate this strong is not self-taught.
at least somebody has shown you *all that is wrong *with the Catholic Church.
don’t forget to give a little love every now and then.

A) it usually the other way around in terms of harsh words being initiated.

B) wrong is wrong and BOTH sides should be equally sanctioned.
A) Well I guess you probably don’t see any words against the Catholic Church harsh… since you’re probably here to get us “saved”???

B) I see many posters suspended and banned, and I guess I can’t say I know the reasons for many of them… perhaps the mods have been picked on you at some point?

I know self-teaching and such is foreign to those who have their thinking done for them, but I dont hate anyone…I am just telling the Truth.

See, I find your contentions blasphemous. The Church is NOT Christ, the Scriptures DO NOT back that up, so you believe what you wish, what you are told by those who wish to retain their power.
See, i find your contentions blashphemous. The Bible is NOT Christ, the Scriptures DO back that up (if you know how to properly read the Bible), so you believe what you wish, what you are told by those who wish to retain their power (namely, Protestant pastors who want your $)…

Jesus hated self-teaching too… that’s why He set up an infallible Church to teach us… infallibly…

you are just telling the truth that you know… but that is not necessarily the absolute Truth about God and Jesus and salvation…

Subjective truth can be vastly different from Absolute, Objective Truth…

Which, again, is why we need the Church Christ himself established… not man-made ones…

maybe i missed it but where is your respone to the thing one poster brought up about Paul on the road to Damascus?/

Jesus said, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Paul was persecuting the (new, Christian) Church…

He thought he was already a member of the “right” church…

Hmm… :hmmm:

I know self-teaching and such is foreign to those who have their thinking done for them, but I dont hate anyone…I am just telling the Truth.
you failed at the truth in your first sentence here.
Do you really believe self-teaching is foreign to me because I’m Catholic?
Do you really believe I have my thinking done for me?
That is simply not true.

Your claim is that you are ‘just telling the Truth’… but it’s the truth as you see it.
You’ve shown that your scholarship is limited and your version of the truth is lacking education, specifically history of Christianity. There are 20 centuries to study, don’t limit yourself.
Your comments are driven by blind prejudice against a church of which you really don’t have a full understanding.
You’ve got a picture of the church in your head that is untrue.
You make statements about the church and it’s members that are not true (like your statement above).
The church you are arguing against doesn’t exist anywhere but your head.

Seems like you might need to ask more questions of Catholics rather than make statements like the one you did.

If Scripture does not back up the church, then what is this?:

**BTW, if you persecute the Catholic church, aren’t you really persecuting its founder, just as Jesus said to Saul in Acts 9:4?
1.) Did Jesus Christ found the bible or the church?
Does the bible say it was the bible? NO, it says he founded his church (Matt.16:18)

2.) What is the Pillar and foundation of the truth?
Does the bible say it is the bible? NO, it says it is the church (1 Tim. 3:15)

3.) Who or what is the final authority?
Does the bible say it is the bible? NO, it says it is the church (Matt. 18:15-18

Ephesians 3:10
Acts 2:47
1 Cor 14:12
Acts 20:28
Eph 5:25
Eph 5:29
Eph 1:22-23, 5:23
Eph 5:27
Eph 5:24
Matt 16:18 and 18:17
Acts 5:11
Romans 16:23
1 Cor 1:2

**I can list many many more Scripture that tells of the church’s importance. The Catholic church on which Jesus Christ founded.

Wow, if that’s what you believe, I feel really sorry for you. 😦 I will pray for you.

The “No True Scotsman” fallacy strikes again.

thecoach;3975327**:

Wow, you really are prejudice against us, aren’t you? You really have been sold a bill of goods by someone, haven’t you? Now I’m feeling even more sorry for you. 😦 😦 I’m still praying that the scales fall from your eyes.

I can’t tell if you are saying that I am the one shifting the boundaries or thecoach.

Please clarify. Cheers!

Your fallacy is that you reject criticism by claiming that the true RCC isn’t what the critic believes it is and that the critic doesn’t understand the true RCC. That people who really understand the RCC would not make such criticisms. It makes the RCC a moving target impossible to criticize. It’s a logical fallacy.

It’s a logical fallacy to you because you are unsure of your religion. Hence you are not Catholic, but I pray that you become one, just as Jesus wanted.
