Well, what you have to keep in mind is that the actual monsters from “Attack of the 50-Foot Eyesores” were Lard Lad, a giant neon cowboy (from the Duff Beer billboard), the three Zip Boys, the Red Devil Realty devil, Mr. Peanut, and a giant version of Kent Brockman, who all come to life and wreak havoc on Springfield. (Or as Marge Simpson put it, “These monsters are destroying everything and everyone we hold dear! And you kids should have jackets on.”)
But unlike most traditional monsters, these rampaging advertising mascots are dependent on people paying attention to them …
So getting back to your question, the title of this thread (“Protestants are going to hell”) is not (technically) a rampaging 50-foot eyesore, or even a rampaging 40-foot eyesore, but it’s the closest thing I could come up with. In my experience, starting a thread with an offensive statement like “Protestant are going to hell”, “Catholics are going to hell”, what-have-you, does not prevent people from reading the thread, but actually draws people to the thread. In other words, the people who are offended by a thread very often support the offending thread. I’m sure you can see the similarity to “Attack of the 50-foot Eyesores”.
