Laughable. Even when idol worship is staring you right in the face, you still can’t admit it. When your in the act of bowing down to a statue…and the bible says not to…you still just can’t admit that it’s wrong. VERY sad.

The Hindu guy told me the agree with what you do. They make offerings to the idol representatives of their gods too. So, yeah, there are folks out there that agree with you all the way. I do not. I am an ex-Catholic. At one time, I was blind just as you are, and then one day, you look at what you’re doing and say - I just bowed down before a statue. Bowing down to the statue makes the statue an idol.
You are sorely mistaken . . .

Do Catholics Worship Statues? | Catholic Answers Staff

I doubt you’ll even read these, but I would suggest that you do if you’d like the truth.
It’s staring you right in the face. Snap out of it.
Who is the one that needs to snap out of it?

From a post on this very same thread, in case you haven’t read it:
As far as worshiping idols, something Catholics are accused of regularly, kneeling in front of images and praying… I was raised Southern Baptist and attended church every Sunday, with the exception for illness; and even then the grim reaper had to be knocking on your door before that excuse was acceptable. **Many, many times **I saw the preacher do what was referred to as an alter call, where he would invite the congregation down to kneel in front of the altar or at the foot of the cross and pray. I saw countless members of the congregation answer that call and they would go kneel in front of a wooden image and pray. Now, do I think they were worshiping and praying to the wooden images? NO. It would be wrong for me to assume to know what is in their hearts and minds at that time. To pass judgement without knowing what is in someones heart and mind; without knowing the true facts of what they are doing, is not a just judgement. Someone on the outside looking in, not really understanding what the Baptists are doing, could make the same assumption about them as some protestants make about the Catholics. I don’t understand how the protestants can accuse the Catholics of worshiping idols because of how we practice our religion, when they do the same thing. We’re kneeling and praying to God in the same manner they are.

There you go. Staring you right in the face.

Nothing to “snap out of” here. Catholics bow down and worship the Triune God and only God. Bowing down before God while in close proximity to a statue may appear that the person is bowing to the statue, but “God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” ~ I Samuel 16:7

If you were praying to the statues in your Catholic Church because someone told you that was acceptable behavior for a Catholic, I’d like to give your “catechist” 40 lashes with a wet noodle.
I like your answer. Can I suggest something? I say to the priests out there, please gently explain the difference between worshipping a statue or idol and worshipping the Lord is. Really explain it and this type of nonsense will go away. You won’t see people carrying around a statue, throwing money and prayers at it, and grabbing it around the legs. Really. C’mon. I know you see the connection.

Believe me I hear the Catholic folks on this forum saying we don’t worship Mary. I hear ya. And I’m not going to tell these folks that they do worship Mary - only God knows their hearts.

I live in a town of 25,000 people - a fair size I’d say. The county my town is in is much larger. The marjority in both are Catholics. I would think that the priests here would make the correction about what Catholics here are doing. What I am seeing (because I used to be a Catholic here remember) is people worshiping an idol. And just from the response that I read here by someone pointing out the similarity of another denomination bowing down to the cross - so I kkow you see it too.

Remember the question posted was “Why do the protestant think that we worship statues and make Mary a goddess???”

I’m telling you why some of us think that. And when I see people here on the forum start with the - Well do YOU do this and do YOU do that? Huh? Give me a break. That tells me you see the connection and now you’re trying to make other points and say LOOK at what YOU do. No. Remember again, the question posted was “Why do the protestant think that we worship statues and make Mary a goddess???”

Thanks for listening. Have a great day all.

So you can’t see what’s in the hearts of those who explain, we do not worship the statue, but you can see into the hearts of those you see with your eyes?

Can I make a suggestion? Maybe if you’d listen to what people tell you, pray for everyone, and look within yourself, ‘all this nonsense would go away’.

We have not made Mary a goddess. It’s those who look, and won’t listen to explanations, that have done that.

You base this whole argument on the ‘commandments’, but when I asked you questions about other commandments, you didn’t respond. :hmmm:

Does your preacher/pastor wear fine linen vestments as commanded by the Lord?

**Exo 39:1 And he made, of violet and purple, scarlet and fine linen, the vestments for Aaron to wear when he ministered in the holy places, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Exo 40:13 Thou shalt put on them the holy vestments, that they may minister to me, and that the unction of them may prosper to an everlasting priesthood. **

Does your Church use candles and incense as commanded by the Lord?

**Exo 40:24 (40:22) He set the candlestick also in the tabernacle of the testimony, over against the table on the south side,
Exo 40:25 (40:23) Placing the lamps in order, according to the precept of the Lord.
Exo 40:26 (40:24) He set also the altar of gold under the roof of the testimony, over against the veil,
Exo 40:27 (40:25) And burnt upon it the incense of spices, as the Lord had commanded Moses. **

How about the bread as commanded by the Lord?

**Exo 40:23 (40:21) Setting there in order the loaves of proposition, as the Lord had commanded Moses. **

Does your Church have the tabernacle of the covenant and the altar?

Exo 40:32 (40:30) When they went into the tabernacle of the covenant, and went to the altar, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Is there a place to wash with water in your Church?

Exo 40:12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and having washed them with water,

These, also, are commandments of the Lord. These are also in the Catholic Church.

Please explain how you hold some commandments up to your fellow man and not others?

I’m wondering if my writing is coming out in English?

The question posted was why do Protestants think Catholics worship Mary. I answered that.

You can pull all of your questions out of thin air or any place else you’re pulling them from because I answered the question. I KNOW by your questions that you understand what I’m saying. End of conversation, friend.

You use the commandments of the Lord and I brought up more, not out of thin air but, from scriptures. How do you determine which commandments are to be discussed and which ones are ‘end of conversation’? I know by your avoidance of those questions that you understand what I’m saying. Do you realize that avoiding a discussion on a subject you brought up, the commandments of the Lord, it appears to be an attempt to stay on course with an agenda?

Now, not all of my response was outside the topic, which you wish to stay on course with. How is it you can see with your eye, what’s in people’s hearts?

Jars_of_Clay,

Let’s try a different approach. Maybe some Catholics don’t understand the teaching as they should, I can’t say because I can’t see in their hearts. What you have done is place all Catholics into the same area with your generalized view.

I’ve seen Protestants that believe in handling poisonous snakes, to demonstrate their faith somehow, therefore, all Protestants must believe in that. This is the same as the generalization you’ve made against Catholics. Painting with a broad brush is not a proper way to approach something you see, but cannot see.

If you can’t identify with that analogy, how about tongues? Do all Protestants believe in speaking in tongues? Infant baptism?

See, we don’t know exactly where you’re coming from because you generalize your affliation as ‘Protestant’, and there are many divisions within those who consider themselves as Protestant.

Catholicism is not a hidden faith. Everything we believe is posted online for all to see. Have you read the Catechism on this subject? It’s free and available online. scborromeo.org/ccc/ccc_toc.htm The Catechism states our beliefs.

Because you once were a Catholic, who no longer follows the faith, doesn’t prove anything. I was once a Protestant. Now where do we turn? Do we assume an authority upon ourselves? Or do we turn to another authority, as taught in scriptures?

When you’re Catholic, no correction is necessary! Whilst we are called to be examples of the Gospel, we do not conduct ourselves for appearances and the ‘approval’ of onlookers.

If one day, you come to understand why we do these things, and become Catholic, you will discover no explanation is necessary, and you will be oblivious to who’s looking…

Until then, you’re making a judgement from outside, looking in.

They spend more time, I think, in their churches using the Catholic Church as the model of wrong doing that they are indirectly being taught pride about how good they are, not realizing that pride is the greatest of all sins.

So they are trained to believe all our materials are idolatry but can’t read them to look beyond the surface.

That person who put in he wished to win the lottery is like alot of human beings who are greatly suffering in this country because they have no job…they are desperate and they go to whatever means they can find that they will think will help them.
Exaxctly, this is what I’ve also been told. I’ve been told that Presbyterians for example are told at their churches that the catholic church is the whore of babylon and that pope is the antichrist. This is quite outrageous!!! Christians should NEVER say such things about any other people and especially not publicly in the church!!!??? Have you ever heard in your catholic churches the priests say anything bad about any other non-catholic church?? I’ve been to PLENTY of catholic churches in quite a few countries and have never heard a priest say anything negative about any non-catholic church. On the contrary, the priests encourage people to live in harmony even with muslims. This is just wrong!!!

Which of the 30,000 + Protestants are you speaking of? Or do all Protestants just irritate you so it doesn’t matter. It baseless hatred and garbage like this that keeps meaningful dialogue from happening. It’s just more of the same “we are better than you” rhetoric on here and its sad and unfortunate.😦
Well, the majority of protestants that I have talked to. I apologize but I’m not able to make a list of all those denominations who claim this, it’s too many of them and I’m confused about their teachings. Sometimes it seems they’re confused too…

Can’t resist the final jab in your last sentence? It is very hard to be sympathetic to Catholics putting up with anti-Catholic sentiment when there are Catholics who dish out anti-Protestant sentiment.

Neither is justified. Both grieve God I am sure.

O+

Dear friends

it really upsets me when protestants spread untruths and lies about the catholic faith. In most cases, I’m convinced, it is so because they are unaware what catholics really believe (maybe if they studied it before making claims they would have to acknowledge that what they’re saying doesn’t make sense. Or am I being too brave?:D)

I give you this short video as example that is full of claims that have NO sense, are just wrong and have no scriptural ground. Why do the protestant think that we worship statues and make Mary a a goddess??? Is it because they LIKE to think this otherwise they would all have to become CATHOLICS??? It seems to me that the catholics don’t defend their faith enough…Maybe it would help if we left a few notes under the video…imagine, if there is 100 of them, maybe it would make them go and study a bit about the catholic faith so they opened their eyes and realise that we don’t pray to statues and what they say is a lie!!!

Many anti catholics are ex catholics with huge chips on their shoulders about the CC and they end up grasping anything that will help them justify their departure from the CC. And their “stuff” gets lots worse than the nonsense about worshiping Mary. I was mixed up with these guys in the pre-internet days of the early 80’s and then stumbled across a nest of them at carm.org so anticatholicism still seems pretty active.

CARM is the worst I’ve yet seen as far as anti catholicism goes and your right…those catholics who do defend their church against this kind of bigotry do a good job of it, but there seem to be very few doing it.

Great point. We, as a whole, need a fire lit under our rear ends! A holy fire!

I’ve found on this board there are those who don’t always know about all there is to know about protestants. There are misunderstandings on both sides. There are untruths on both sides.

People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Correct?

God told people that there will be barriers to our faith such as creating other denominational sects to try to convert the Catholics to other religions. All I know is that after much persecution, the Catholic Church is the only church that stood up to it all and is standing here still.

  1. no CC persecution here; no CC persecution in the USofA
  1. Where did God let people that there will be barriers to faith which include creating other denominations that will try to convert Catholics to other religions? BTW, becoming a protestant isn’t, IMO, necessarily another religion. If both are real Christians it’s not another religion.
A person is lead astray by their own lusts:

James 1:
13 ¶ Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

You can’t tell God, “the devil made me do that” nor, “those protestants made me do that”.

As we all recognize the different gifts, there is a gift of knowledge/wisdom. We see by Paul’s writings that some have not ‘grown’, or been revealed to as much truth. I believe we will be judged by our knowledge of truths. We cannot forsake the things we know, for the sake of a ‘easier way’. That has appearances of fitting a theology to our lifestyles, as opposed to fitting our lifestyles to a theology.

Are you in agreement with my statement? Are you correcting the part of my statement you disagree with? Are you adding to my statement? As you can see, I’m uncertain why this is your response to my post.

Do you have a response to Roblox?

It seems to me that the catholics don’t defend their faith enough.

What would You like me to defend first?

(PS i do not watch anti-Catholic utube videos)
good lucky in doing so. this will never stop. there always will be someone to accuse the Church of something. it has been for 2000yrs, it isnt going to stop now. besides Jesus said: rejoice when man persecute you for the sake of me. He also said: in the world you will suffer persecution. there you have it.

He also said: " there will be scandals but owe to those whom the scandals will come."
denominations who takes innocent Catholics away from the Church will have to answer to our Lord.

God punished the serpent for tempting Adam and Eve.

You mislead your catholic friends if you tell them they are not responsible for their own actions. Very dangerous!!!
