Protestants spread untruths about catholic faith!

Hi! 1st time on. I like reading the threads - sometimes the misconceptions and ‘blanket statements’ discourage me, but if I keep reading, someone usually paves the middle ground. Jesus often left things to our God-given intelligence and free-will.

I will say I liked Ryzeke and Iowa Jay’s answers.

Again, “never-say-never”, “never-say-always” - ALL Protestants don’t say or think those things, (I’ve often heard Catholics say what Prostestants say or think about us, but personally I’ve not heard any of it); and if you read the threads, you hear us making alot of generalized statements. “There’s a ditch on both sides of the road.”

I don’t watch you-tube, though I agree one should be knowledgeable of ‘what’s out there’; might I humbly suggest some of you watch some of the “Church Channels” besides EWTN - just to hear how many times (if at all) Protestants Catholic-bash, or talk about what we believe, or talk about us (or any specific full-Gospel Trinitarian Christian denomination) at all. And don’t watch w/a chip on your shoulder, try to be objective.

😉 Blessings & Grace

Unfortunately, there are always Protestant wingnuts who’ll tell lurid untruths about the Catholic Church as a whole. Unfortunately, there are always Catholic wingnuts whom the Protestant wingnuts’ narrative kind of fits.

I only wish we Protestants had the kind of internal hierarchy, answerability, and disciplinary mechanisms needed to clamp down on our miscreants of this type. I admit, I’m a little puzzled that the Catholic Church DOES have such tools to hand, but never seems moved to use them that I’ve noticed. Is there more to this problem that I’m not seeing as an outsider?
Hello Le Cracquere,

The Largest Church in all Christendome isn’t without Problems, There is always more to the Problem than is seen most the time… RCC is usually attacked because their is more to gain by those who seek certain things. The problems are just as big else where in other Christian denominations, it’s just that the media in the West is most often biased about who it chooses to perscute. There is a lot of money to be gain sueing the RCC church and Lawyers know this as well as the Churches enemies… It’s hard to bring a law suite against a single denomination for any amount of money for what a single pasture has done…

Peace and Godbless

because of the flooding I am repeating this post so it doesn’t get buried:

I think its pretty clear Christ hated mindless prayers said in rote over and over. God is not deaf and God heard the sinner’s prayer the first time.
Did God not hear Christ’s prayer the first time?

Mat 26:44 And leaving them, he went again: and he prayed the third time, saying the selfsame word.
Christ no more wanted the Lord’s Prayer said over and over by rote any more than a teacher wants his students to stop growing and just say the math tables over and over by rote for their whole lives and never do real math. It was a teaching example plain and simple.
You said, God heard us the first time, but Christ told us, “…for your Father knoweth what is needful for you, before you ask him.”

Mat 6:5 And when ye pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, that love to stand and pray in the synagogues and corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men: Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.
Mat 6:6 But thou when thou shalt pray, enter into thy chamber, and having shut the door, pray to thy Father in secret, and thy father who seeth in secret will repay thee.
Mat 6:7 And when you are praying, speak not much, as the heathens. For they think that in their much speaking they may be heard.
Mat 6:8 Be not you therefore like to them for your Father knoweth what is needful for you, before you ask him.

Now, as I’m providing scriptures, would you please provide scriptures where Jesus did not want us to pray the ‘Our Father’ over and over?
as far as Paul, he was a pharisee of the pharisees. He would have been appalled at any images or likeness used for worship or of people.
Yes Paul was a Pharisee, before he converted to Christianity. The Apostles were Jews, before they converted to Christianity. What’s your point by mentioning he was a Pharisee? How does what one was before they became Christian have to do with anything we’re discussing?

Are you a Pharisee? It’s fair question, as we know Paul called himself a Pharisee after he had converted to Christianity.

Act 23:6 And Paul, knowing that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, cried out in the council: Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees: concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
Solomon put the images in the Temple he was instructed to put there but they were not of people in likeness of people. that is the prohibition.
Actually, the prohibition includes, '…nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath,

**Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth.
Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: **

Do you have any images around? Pictures of Christ? Pictures of family members? A picture on your driver’s license? Christmas ornaments that are images of angels, or anything else? A nativity scene for Christmas? A cross?

Do you lift your eyes up to heaven, at night or day?

**Deu 4:19 Lest perhaps lifting up thy eyes to heaven, thou see the sun and the moon, and all the stars of heaven, and being deceived by error thou adore and serve them, which the Lord thy God created for the service of all the nations, that are under heaven. **

Since you are preaching adherence to an old covenant commandment, I wonder if you, and your Church, are following these commandments.

Does your preacher/pastor wear fine linen vestments as commanded by the Lord?

**Exo 39:1 And he made, of violet and purple, scarlet and fine linen, the vestments for Aaron to wear when he ministered in the holy places, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Exo 40:13 Thou shalt put on them the holy vestments, that they may minister to me, and that the unction of them may prosper to an everlasting priesthood. **

Does your Church use candles and incense as commanded by the Lord?

**Exo 40:24 (40:22) He set the candlestick also in the tabernacle of the testimony, over against the table on the south side,
Exo 40:25 (40:23) Placing the lamps in order, according to the precept of the Lord.
Exo 40:26 (40:24) He set also the altar of gold under the roof of the testimony, over against the veil,
Exo 40:27 (40:25) And burnt upon it the incense of spices, as the Lord had commanded Moses. **

How about the bread as commanded by the Lord?

**Exo 40:23 (40:21) Setting there in order the loaves of proposition, as the Lord had commanded Moses. **

Does your Church have the tabernacle of the covenant and the altar?

**Exo 40:32 (40:30) When they went into the tabernacle of the covenant, and went to the altar, as the Lord had commanded Moses. **

Is there a place to wash with water in your Church?

Exo 40:12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and having washed them with water,

These, also, are commandments of the Lord and these are found in the Catholic Church.

ahh yes The Lord has used imperfect and sinful people for His work. absolutely He has.

"Forgiveness is something we accept as well as something we grant… What did Christ say when asked by those following him… If a man sin against me seven times in one day shall I forgive him? The Lord response Seventy times in one day though shalt forgive him… Cast the Beam from your own Eye before helping others… Priests aren’t there to Judge although they certainly can remitt or retain as taught. But to help us to overcome sin in our lives… "

I have no problem with any of that. I especially liked the turn of the phrase at the beginning and replacing Priest with Pastor would be beneficial.

well said and worth thinking about.

gotta admit though, confession would seriously creep me out.

isn’t there some rule about flooding posts away like you do constantly?
this thread is about Protestant’s perspective. if you can’t handle differing opinions, you shouldn’t come here.

Yeah, I’m this close to reporting hugefeet. I’ve seen nothing but bashing on every thread hugefeet has posted. Really rude stuff too.

I have reported his disrespectful generalization of all priests. There is a way to discuss our differences with love and respect. Those that can’t do that, don’t need to be here.

I still see no biblical basis for saying it endlessly and mindlessly like some hypnotic trance.
Neither do Catholics, biblically or not.
any heart felt prayer honestly confessing sin asking the Lord to forgive them, help them and use them is better than a million rosaries mindlessly said in rote.
.
I don’t think many Catholics would disagree with you on this; a rosary being said in such a manner.
I refuse to go before some pedophile priest with filthy hands asking for forgiveness of my sins. .
Wow. I’m pretty sure this qualifies as uncharitable.

The sinning of the priest has no effect on the forgiveness from the Lord. I hope nobody told you different, because it ain’t so.

its a protestants perspective, you can’t shut me up like you can your church members or the people the RCC burned. but report me if you wish, its your right.
I am finding I know more about RCC dogma than most of the people here.

I am addressing ‘untruths’ or misconceptions about the Catholic faith.

I am allowed to respond to as many posts as I feel I have something to share. Do you consider it ‘flooding’ when I am providing scriptures to rebutt your misconceptions? I was genuinely interested in seeing your response to those scriptures posted.

Again, I am addressing misconceptions. Those differing opinions that cannot be stated with respect, or the charitability of Christ required of all Christians, do not need to be here and I will report all violations of the forum rules. Anti-Catholic bashing is not expressing a differing opinion with either respect or charitability, and is more an agenda than discussing.

No, Paul never prayed the rosary because it didn’t exist when he was alive. So what? The Church found a new way to pray. This happens to be the most scriptural prayer there is, by the way. It is a meditation on the the life of Christ taken from the Gospels. Maybe I’m wrong, but your posts so far have been nothing but attempts to bash our Church. Do you have anything to offer other than this?
iThe Jews do use prayer beads to pray the Psalms and the CC does the same. the change was when the Rosary shift from the Psalms to the NT prayers. but many still pray the beads in the Psalms, maybe monkeys.

i have heard a Jew telling the priest one time that we are imitating them even with the beads. because the priest had the Rosary beads around his waist. it is not anything new.

a muslim told me the other that they also pray with beads. it is in no way a new thing.

i consider it flooding when you cut and paste pre made messages that have no relevance to the current discussion.

If you read the post, it provides scriptures to rebutt your assertions. Those assertions made make rebuttals have relevance to the current discussion. Now, are you going to address the points and scriptures raised that, in our eyes, rebutt your view, which comes with no scriptures listed? If not, it only adds to the validity of the scriptures and explanations that I posted and for that I am grateful, because it infers no intelligible argument can be made against it, which concretes our belief that we are right in our interpretations.

Hee! Hee!

Your not alone! Confessing our sins against God to a Priest is never easy and is always creepy when we reveal our deepest and most private thoughts and actions to someone, Even a Priest. MY first confession with my priest after being gone for some years? I got to hear his! I was shocked…

It’s rare to not find a priest that doesn’t care and even those who may not be snow white as others think they should be. They have to fight many if not more tempting things than we do.

Truly they can help, and when you come to realize or believe that God has alway’s had those in his covenant to help us, and the Priest is how that happened! You privately rejoice in your forgivenss and you don’t wonder around wondering if…

Peace And Godbless Hugefoot…

i refuse to reply to you anymore, you are the one uncharitable and will only try to get me banned.

I am gathering that the relationship between priest and parishioner is vastly different than my protestant experience. I bet its quite hard to put into words.

Then you can’t refute the scriptures and explanations I provided in post #202, and would rather use my objection to your offensive posts as an excuse not to respond to those rebuttals? At least respond to those points before you decide not to respond to me anymore.

Also, I ask that you please provide my posts that were uncharitable in nature and I will surely apologize if they were so, or I will explain them better so that you can understand what I was trying to get across, as it is not my intention to be uncharitable.

On the contrary, I found his questions and Scripture passages to be quite relevant. The Catholic Church is often called unbiblical or worse, anti-biblical, and yet when one studies Scripture, one finds plenty of support for Catholic practices. The practice of “accepting Jesus into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior” is not found in Scripture, yet that is certainly pounded from the pulpit in every Baptist church I’ve ever gone to.
