First, it was spoken in Aramaic, not Greek. Secondly, you have to consider that the Greek translation would have to account for the gender of the words. Greek words have feminine and masculine endings, Petros would be the masculine form. (It would have been an insult to call Simon bar Jomah by the feminine form.)But wait a minute, then that would mean You are stone and on this stone I will build my church. Making Peter’s faith meerly a stone, nothing significant.
