Protestants: what do you think about the war against Iraq?

I’m asking this question because I know that some of you believe that existence of independent Israel is necessary for the second coming of Jesus. Do you think that this is right to start war and shed blood just to keep Israel safe ? Are you proud that protestant Bush decided to attack Iraq?
 
I do not think this war is about keeping Israel safe, I think God has done a pretty good job of that by himself. That said, I think this war was a mistake.

Take a break from the anti-Israel youtube videos and over-dramatized “reports” from CNN abd the BBC.

Read scripture, Israel NEVER ceased from being a nation before God.

The war in Iraq is not a Catholic vs. Protestant thing. I seriously doubt that there is any significant divergence of opinon regarding the war vis-a-vis Catholics and Protestants in the US.

Also, the war wasn’t started to “keep Israel safe”. The war was started to keep Iraq from developing and deploying weapons of mass destruction. In hindsight it is evident that the UN inspectors were doing an adequate job on that front but–and this is significant–everybody at the time believed that Iraq did possess WMDs…even the UN itself and nations that opposed the war such as France and Russia. At this time, the main reason to stay in Iraq is to avoid the chaos and genocide that would occur if we pulled out anytime soon. Those folks really, really hate each other.

Excellent post, I’d like to add our church has a church in Iraq and is baptising new Christians by the thousands…These people were residents of a dictatorship, people seem to forget religous freedom was not Sadams way, for that reason alone leaving the country in civil unrest would be a catastrophe.

Proud that he had the courage to do what needed to be done. Not proud of the fact that he didn’t have a clear mission objective.

More like the old, “hey, this guy’s dangerous and he’s threatening us and our allies, not to mention the fact that he’s supporting the people who attacked us” routine.

If we did–well–Im sure we would pay a BIGGER price and on our soil.😦

If you think there is chaos there now-----can you imagine what would happen if we left.:eek: :eek:

Why not? Imagine if thugs burst into your house and started to destroy it. Instead of leaving they stay and say that they want to rebuild your house the way that they think is best.

All I remember is when it started everyone said “gee well you better not leave early, you better stay and finish” but I dont hear that quote anymore.

And, the war in Iraq is illegal.

Which is different from the war in Afghanistan. I’m glad Canada makes the distinction. Unfortunately we in this country have a -]little toadie/-] Prime Minister who supports the USA on absolutely everything.

Iraq never attacked the USA. Afghanistan did (the Taliban sheltered Al-Qaeda)

Those that lied about WMD in Iraq - have they been prosecuted yet?
