i know what it is but wanted to hear your views…

Please don’t just say it is blashphemy of the Holy Spirit. We already know that (St. Matthew 12:32…)… Please explain what this means, exactly. Thanks.

I’ve always thought the meaning was to basically KNOW what God teaches etc, but still reject Him and His teachings. I’m not talking about sin in general, as we all do that.

Am I falling into a trap??? 😉

To me, it’s kind of a scary topic, which I guess is a good thing (to be scared). More specifically to what I said earlier, I think it’s based off the HEART of someone. I think some speak out against God just for show(Marylin Manson), while others really truly have a hatred, and aren’t only profiting off of it.

I saw a video clip one time, of a guy who obviously had some serious beef with the Catholic church. He was raised/confirmed in the church, and with his own video camera he went back to the very church he was confirmed and baptised in, quoted the bible on the topic of the unforgivable sin, pointed the camera at his face and said that he is publicly and willfully denoucing God(not a direct quote)

I’ll see if I can find it…it obviously wasn’t professionally done, but shot with a camcorder or something like that. But I think with a little digging I can find it somewhere. If only I could remember where I saw it!

There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss".

The only unforgivable sin…is the sin you don’t ask for forgiveness for. And for that to happen, you’d have to turn your back on God. Stop going to church, confession, you wouldn’t want to receive the Lord’s gift of himself to us (Eucharist).

I always get scared for protestants who calls the Body of Christ the CC of Hore of Babylon and call the pope the successor of St Peter the antichrist. i think these are unforgivable sins.

:byzsoc: :highprayer:

So wisdomseeker, are you saying that should a Protestant say and believe these things, but then seek reconcilliation through the sacraments of confession and penance through the Catholic Church, it would be to no avail?

The unforgivable sin IS Blasphemy. It becomes Blasphemy towards the Holy Spirit **when one judges **the operation of God as evil and takes it as his deity to persecute it.
Jesus refers to sin and Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as **unforgivable sin, **the attribute of deity, irreverance toward something considered Sacred. Luke 12:10

The unforgivable sin is to lose faith. Since our sins are forgiven through faith, if we don’t have it we can’t be forgiven.

Sy, in my above post Jesus actually says that it is Blasphemy. Read Luke.

To be honest, I never knew their was a sin that couldn’t be forgiven.

I think its having the privilege of knowing the truth (being touched by the Holy Spirit) and then rejecting it. See John John 15:24

"If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. "

As to those who call the Pope the antichrist and the CC the whore of Babylon - shame on them - those accusations demonstrate bad fruit. (I’m Protestant, lest you think all Protestants hold this view - though I’ll admit it was a historical battle cry of the reformation and sentiment held by many, sadly).

Blessings,

Brian

👍 In a nut shell.

The sin is falling into the mindset of thinking one’s sin is so bad that God won’t or can’t forgive you. It causes you to close your heart towards God. It’s false pride.

Christian Knight, it comes from this:

He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. 31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the **blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. **32 And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. Matt 12:30-32 (RSV)

so you are Catholic?

you cheated… 😃

but anyway… that is the unforgivable sin… But you say “the sin you don’t ask for forgivenes for”… Does that mean you could have 100 sins forgiven & one small one you didn’t think of could get you to Hell??

they would be if they knew what they were doing… but most don’t… I do think some suspect, though… & their pride won’t let them admit they need to convert…
