That’s terrible and this is showing, it’s not just about statues of the Confederacy, it’s about tearing down the statues of the Founders and now, Ulysses Grant. Pretty terrible but so be it, we will move on.

I understand statues were torn down in Chile during their troubles of the last two years. To me and just for me, this is a sort of playbook we see. Why is the big deal tearing down statues?

Interesting Indeed.

None of these protestors are fit to tie Grant’s shoes, much less tear down his statue.

It’s time for all Christians to take a stand on this issue.

Okay, confederate politician and military statues erected during the rise of the KKK, collect them all and put them in a museum somewhere. They don’t belong in the public square. There are definitely better ways of getting rid of statues, though, ways that do not involve anarchy.

Otherwise, there is not a single statue of any person, public or private, who is without sin. Actions of hate in response to actions of hate are contrary to the Gospel.

Toppling statues of Washington, Grant, Jefferson? These people were the progressives of their time, they stood for radically new ideas and practices that have benefited Americans for centuries.

One statement for protesters: Thank you for protesting, but first forgive!

An Australian perspective on Americans tearing down statues and banning politicians from bars as an attack on society.

One correction: they were the liberals of their time, the classical liberals. Not progressives.
But I agree with the gist of your post, particularly:
Thank you for protesting, but first forgive!

They all owned slaves, bin 'em.
No. Considering the great things they did for our nation, there is no one alive today who has made that kind of contribution. Not one.
This is a ruse by those who really oppose what Washington and Jefferson, Madison and Franklin put into place: all are created equal, endowed By their creator with inalienable rights.
Those rights, long denied American blacks, have been properly established before the birth of many of the members of the mob. The mob, on the other hand, with its leftist progressive philosophy, would deny those rights to everyone.

So, let’s bin those things they did that were clearly contrary to the exceptional foundation they formulated for our great land, while keeping that foundation and honoring its framers.

If it weren’t for Grant, a kind, compassionate man who voluntarily freed the one slave that was gifted to him by his father-in-law at a time when he (Grant) was in dire economic straits and stood to gain a small fortune in exchange for the slave, there probably wouldn’t be a United States of America today.

The fact that any self-styled social justice warriors would tear down his statute out of all the others shows that these protestors are acting on blind rage and know nothing about the people whose memorials they are desecrating.

Yes, Grant, helped end slavery. This is all now bizarre and just shows, the purpose of this movement is just anarchy. And probably power.

Grant got behind Lincoln 100% when he issued the Emancipation Proclamation and never questioned the wisdom of allowing black soldiers to serve the Union cause at a time when many others in the Federal military did. He (Grant) is the last person who should be pilloried as a racist warmonger (or whatever they think he stands for that is so offensive).

Considering the political intentions of this movement, perhaps they view this as Grant’s greatest sin.

The big deal is, it’s being done by mob action, not through legal channels such as petitioning the appropriate governing bodies to have the statues removed. This is anarchy. It’s dangerous, and not the correct way to do things. We have laws in this country. Vandalizing property goes against them.

And when Grant defeated Lee in the Civil War, he could have been vindictive during the surrender and pinned Lee’s ears to the wall. Instead, Grant was merciful. He allowed Lee his horse and he was really quite charitable toward him. Grant was a gentleman, and gracious in his victory. That says a lot about the man.

To play devil’s advocate, wasn’t Grant terrible toward the Indians?
