PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence plans to lead a “peaceful protest” outside Planned Parenthood’s Point Street offices in Providence on Saturday, as part of a “national effort to defund Planned Parenthood.”

A statement issued Friday by the Diocese said: "The protest is to raise awareness about Planned Parenthood’s trafficking of aborted baby parts. Thousands of concerned citizens are expected to attend these protests all across the country.’’

Added Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, who is expected to take part in the 9-to-11 a.m. event: "“As I see or hear about the videos revealing the hideous practices of Planned Parenthood, my emotions are a combination of repulsion, anger and profound sadness.’’
