That theological concept has developed into this one:

**
**
John 3:20
For every one that doth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, that his works may not be reproved.

and;

**
**
Apocalypse 6:16
And they say to the mountains and the rocks: Fall upon us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth upon the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb:

Hyperbolic language is quite common even today, very frequently used in semetic poetry, and not meant to be taken literally.

“If you do that again, I’ll kill you!” spoken between friends conveys truth without being an actual threat of homocide.

God is love (1 Jn 4:8) and it is not His will that any of His creatures should perish (2 Pt 3:9). But He is perfect (Mt. 5:28) and wickedness cannot exist in His presence (logic, also Rev. 21:27).

Any parent can tell you that there are times your anger at your child who has done wrong burns fiercely - it is precisely because you love them so much that you are so angered by their foolishness!

On what or whose authority does your claim of hyperbole rest? What does the Church teach about this passage?

I have come to this conclusion from the Book of Wisdom:
Before the LORD the whole universe
is as a grain from a balance
or a drop of morning dew come
down upon the earth.
Code:
           But you have mercy on all, because
         you can do all things;
         and you overlook people's sins that
         they may repent.
         **For you love all things that are
         and loathe nothing that you have made;
         for what you hated, you would not have fashioned.**

Could you elaborate a little? I’m kind of confused…
Following what NHL posted, As the nature of God was understood the relationship between God and man and the consequences of sin also became better understood.

God’s rejection and hatred of sinfull man became incongruint with how God was understood. This developed a new understanding of man as the rejecter and hater of God.

Sinfull man cannot stand in the presence of God not because God’s negative response to man’s sin but because of sinfull man’s negative response to the Holiness of God.

I have come to this conclusion from the Book of Wisdom:
There are many passages in Scripture which refer to God hating people. There are also passages such as the one you presented from The Book of Wisdom. Since God does not speak with forked tongue, we are missing something in our understanding. I don’t claim to know how to reconcile these seemingly contradictory passages. Has the Church spoken on this issue of God hating people which is clearly revealed in various Scripture passages?

It would be helpful if the Church can put a stance on this situation. It would also be helpful that maybe someone from CAF can make a tract about it. (If not already).

I also was reading in older threads and people were referring to a thread called “Biblical Dyslexia: Does God Hate People?” However, I cannot find that thread. If anyone knows what I’m talking about, please direct me there.

Catholic theology is developemental. The passages in question describe the effects of a broken bond between persons. Man sinned against God, it’s not hard to understand that we would express God’s response to us as we did. Theology hadn’t developed the depth to understand the experience of the broken bond with God back then. The experience is the same, we know divine nature better now so we aren’t projecting human nature onto it as much.
