public nudity a sin?

An accusation of what?
You asked if the concept of personal responsibility has flown the coop. Is that an accusation or what? It was written in response to my expressing that I have body issues. I can elaborate if you like, but what does what I said have to do with personal responsibility?

This happened to me in Italy. 🙂 Oddly, it was only the people who really looked awful naked that were . . . anyone who could possible have been lust-arousing (at least on my part) was perfectly well covered. :o
And the same thing happened to me in Spain, with that same observation about who was doing the nude thing. Isn’t there any place in Europe where one does not have to look at this?

As a general observation about today’s society, there is a tendency for people to say, “I read something that made me feel bad, therefore it’s the fault of the person who wrote it.”

Seems to me that is allowing a stranger to have a great deal of power over one’s reactions.

Really…and suppose the people one is supposed to trust about religious and moral things sends the message that the human body is inherently dirty and sinful in and of itself, that should be hidden and we should be ashamed of it. I have serious body shame issues because of this, so severe to the point of usually wearing a t-shirt when I go swimming (I’m a male) so I don’t shock people with my dirty and sinful body…and intimacy…well forget it, how in the world am I going to want to expose this disgustingly sinful and dirty body to anyone else and dirty up their sinful and dirty body. Sometimes I wonder if God wants me to be happy or miserable…

I have also noticed, again as a general observation, the trend of taking personally that which was not meant to be personal.

And yes, a big turning away from accepting personal responsibility for many things, which goes across the societal boards.

That tends to happen when one is vague.

One thing to take into consideration is that when one writes, as opposed to speaks, less information is communicated from the author in proportion to what is taken in. This is because when talks to another person face-to-face, one hears the tone of voice (including what words that person emphasizes) and consciously or subconsciously sees the other person’s body language. That is lost when writing, which means that one sometimes needs to compensate by providing more detail. Otherwise, a reader’s mind might consciously or subconsciously fill in the blanks.

many times there are many factors playing a role. One should but evaluate issues relating to one’s self and take responsibility to the extent that one happens to be responsible.

Was reading a thread about whether or not to wear bikinis and I started wondering about nudity in general. Sorry if this has been discussed before, I’m new here and didn’t find anything!

So would nudity that is not meant to incite lust, etc. be considered a sin? For example, I know in some cultures many women sunbathe topless in public parks, beaches, etc., not to mention the numerous nude beaches out there. Would this be considered sinful?
I suggest reading the end of page 27 to the end of the section, well the whole thing is good.

I am going to start off by showing my bias. I am a Catholic Nudist. Being a nudist is something that I feel drawn to, it has also made me feel more in touch with God. It relaxes me and has done a fair share of removing lustful intentions from my life. This is a subject, being both a nudist and a Catholic, that I spend a fair amount of time soul searching over. God made us in his image, we cover ourselves with man made clothing and call it better. What could be better then what God made?

Wearing clothing promotes a lustful view of the human body. This is not something that I pull out of thin air, but from personal observation. My parents are not nudist, it is not something that I grew up with. When I hit puberty the idea of seeing a woman’s breasts was enough to “insight lustful thoughts”, however I now go to nudist weekends and various activities as such yeah my first 15-20 mins at my first visit I noticed the naked women then I got over it, had it been something I grew up with (knowing from personal conversations with people that have) it would have been from the start. It becomes akin to seeing a person’s face or hands, more then that even. There are also historical points to be made, it used to be a faux pas to see a woman’s ankles, me would get lustful thoughts seeing them, It is something hard to explain to those that have never been apart of it. Lust dies.

You also get the idea that modesty is not a state of dress, but the way you present yourself. Now I will admit there is a time and a place for all things, streaking a sporting event for instance is not in line with this ideal.

I think I have rambled on for too long let me sum up, when I think of all of these points, I can not see public nudity as sin.

I am nudist, and I am Catholic.
