another poster had recently bemoaned the icky song loop phenomena. today I’m a fellow sufferer.
years ago, I read one of the funniest commentaries ever written-- a piece by Dave Barry about comically imprecise song lyrics. Most notably and hilariously, he’d mentioned his version of the opening lines of the Beach Boys "Help Me Rhonda.’ I never forgot it.
this year’s local highschool marching season line-up includes “Help Me Rhonda.” my son, first trumpeter, has been practicing it almost around the clock.
but even when he’s not playing it, the precise tune and imprecise lyrics are holding hostage my brain:
" Ever since you put me down there’s been owls puking in my bed.…"
years ago, I thought the column was simply hilarious. but it’s all fun and games till somebody gets hurt.
make it stop. please.
