if this sounds arrogant, sorry… sometimes truth sounds all kinds of weird ways…but my post is a more accurate portrayal of the Catholic view…

for instance it is wrong to say that Baptists will go to Heavnen. some do some don’t…

if one is a baptist and suspects the RCc may be right about some things… and doesn’t bother ivnestigating things… that person could be in serious trouble.

**Jesus said ti is hard to make it into Heavne… **i think the main reason he said that is because peple dont want to change, don’t want to give up thingsthat drag them to Hell… material things, lack of charity… sex… e tc…

if he said its hard to get there we should never act like … well, like just anyone can get into Heaven… better to err on the side of caution.
I was really wondering what part of what I said was incorrect. Perhaps you mis-read what I wrote a little, I guess I could see how. I wasn’t suggesting (RE baptist) that they just go to heaven, I was however saying they don’t just go to hell. Particularly since most of them would probably fall squarly in the ignorance category (as in, ignorant of the full truth, also not trying to sound arrogent here, just accurate).

Regarding Jesus saying it’s hard to get there, consider this paradox:

Revelation 7
Of the tribe of Zabulon, twelve thousand signed: Of the tribe of Joseph, twelve thousand signed: Of the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand signed. 9 After this I saw a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and tribes, and peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne, and in sight of the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying: Salvation to our God, who sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb.
And now:

Matthew 7
13 Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat.
So on the one hand it’s nearly impossible to get to heaven, but on the other it sounds like… nearly everyone in the world gets there?

Well if you read up on the CCC, you’ll see the Church’s explaination for this, which falls sort of in line with what you’re saying:
1036
The affirmations of Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church on the subject of hell are a call to the responsibility incumbent upon man to make use of his freedom in view of his eternal destiny. They are at the same time an urgent call to conversion: "Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few."618
Since we know neither the day nor the hour, we should follow the advice of the Lord and watch constantly so that, when the single course of our earthly life is completed, we may merit to enter with him into the marriage feast and be numbered among the blessed, and not, like the wicked and slothful servants, be ordered to depart into the eternal fire, into the outer darkness where "men will weep and gnash their teeth."619
So yes, it’s a warning to always live your life free of mortal sin, and as virtuous as possible as you do not know the hour of your death. But at the same time, Jesus wasn’t born, scourged, beateb and crusified so that most everyone can be sent to hell. The plan, is to save humanity, to bring us in to heaven and spend eternaty with our Lord. So always remember to check any feeling of “opressive fear” over the state of your soul, with a reminder that God really really really loves you.

But regarding the OPs question. Yeah, beign a fall away Christian makes things difficult. From those who have much, much is required.

as in the human realm ignorance is no excuse… its like that analogy of the boys getting muddy when their father told them to stay clean because they were going somewhere later… One boy didnt’ see the muddy ditch, accidentally fell itno it… one was shoved in… one deliberately threw himself in. Which one needs a bath?

Thank the Lord, God is more just than you… 😉

So, here is the question:

If you are a revert from Christianity (hope I said that right, I was once a Christian, but I am not now) do you go to purgatory, or straight to Hell? Or is this not really a question for Christians, but to God? Also, if I was to go to Purgatory, what happens to me?

Thanks for Answers, and I hope you guys/gals have a good day.

Your Friend,

Purgatory doesn’t exist.

You would either go to temporary torment or temporary bliss according to your disposition towards God and neighbor.

So what happens to your Bliss when it runs out ?
It runs out because Jesus Christ returns and rises the dead and assumes us up into Heaven to a bliss that is more complete (now both spiritual and corporeal in experience) and is eternal.

Thanks, but to whom will you pray?

The Kami. Not the same Kami as you will find on Wikipedia, or probably half the internet sources about Shinto, but if you want to know more, pm me.

1Pet.1: [17] “And if you invoke as Father him who judges each one impartially according to his deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile.”

Where humanity ends up is solely a PERSONAL choice. We decide our Eternity by our life choices, and how they are, or, are not in accord with God’s Will. God as Judge simply affirms our personal choices, and passes JUST Judgement!

In attempt to reply to your personal situation I shall share two bible verses.

Mark.3: [29] but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" – This means anyone who denies the Godhead of the Blessed Trinity has sentenced themselves to hell.

Heb. 6: [4]
For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their own account and hold him up to contempt. For land which has drunk the rain that often falls upon it, and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. **But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed; its end is to be burned. **

So friend, it’s not too late to change your mind:thumbsup: On the other hand, should YOU CHOSE NOT TO, you need not lose any sleep about where you will end up. Don’t bother to pack any warm clothes, you woun’t need them:o

Love and prayers friend,

Pat

HAHAHA, I loved that. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you. I know about Kami ( not from wikipedia ). I’d rather you pray to my God, whom
you have rejected, since He is THE Creator. He’s a lot more powerful than the Kami.

I did not know that the Orthodox accepted the apokatastasis. Would you mind providing a link for me?

My dear friend in Christ.

We Catholics certainly do not aim to be seen as “arogant” but if simply articulating the TRUTH gives that impression, we must reread Mt. 5:11-13, and then do it anyway, because it is true, it is also the right thing to do.:o

All Catholic Teaching is rooted in the Bible, either explicitly, or implicitly. Christ Himself along with the Holy Spirit give themselves as warranty for the trutfulness of all Catholic Church teachings on all matters of faith and Morals.

No OTHER body of Christians can make this claim.👍

As my signature suggest, truth can be denied, but never can truth be altered. What is…IS!

God will judge everyone, believers, skepitcs, unbelievers, based on our lifes personal choices.1Pet.1: [17] "And if you invoke as Father him who judges each one impartially according to his deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile"

God being God absolutely must, as it is part of His Ddivine Nature, be Just and Fair.

1 John 1: 8-10 [8] If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

1 John 5: 16-17 “If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal. all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” Which means that we do commit MORTAL -soul damming to hell sins!Mt. 16:19

Mt. 16:19 **[19] I [JESUS] will give you {Peter and Apostles that continues even today] the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." **

[19] On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”
And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. [23] If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Friend, no options, no apealing directly to Jesus, this is what Jesus says and means. And it is also in your KJB! So, belief it or not, does not alter what JESUS WHO IS A PERFECT GOD has mandated and authorized. And yes it is God who forgives our sins when HIS PRIEST ask Him to do so:)

Love and prayers,

Pat

Purgatory does exist. it has been proven to me … but i know i cannot convince anyone who doesn’t want to be convinced… and my personal experiences are not to be followed. … only the Church’s teachings. but then, i also have that…

Universal restoration of all the dead, thus ending hell so that all of mankind is united in heaven.
I don’t think you quite got the sense of what I was saying, perhaps understandably so because I may not have been that clear. I’ll break down what I’m trying to say into a few points:
  1. All humans will be risen from the dead, regardless of whether they are saved or damned.
  2. Whether there will be some damned is uncertain.
  3. The group I was talking about as inheriting eternal bliss was solely the saved.
  4. All of mankind will be assumed up into the presence of God.
  5. If some of those are damned, they will experience the presence of God as torment.
  6. As such, we do not make a distinction between between “heaven” and “hell” as more or less in the presence of God. Both are fully in the presence of God, but one is an experience of that presence with acceptance and joy, and the other with rejection and torment.
  7. Certainly all of creation, except for these potential damned, will be restored; we do not believe in the slightest in the Evangelical notion of leaving behind the material world we live in in this life, but rather the restoration and assumption of it.
