We should pray for everyone?
Yes.

Even the Saints? Do you pray for St Paul? Mary? St Ignatious?
Those who are glorified we ask to pray for us.

Purgatory is a state of being
Others are telling me it is a place. This is where it gets confusing.

Philthy:
If so, is it wrong to give the non-Heaven, non-Hell mystery a name?
I don’t know. The Orthodox didn’t. 😃

apart from your excellent personal assurances I am nothing but a wretched sinner. I do not expect you do be assured by anything I say.

You listed the seven “Ecumenical Councils”.
Yes. They are part of Rome’s Sacred Tradition also.

I’m one of the guilty parties here.
I did always have it in my mind that Purgatory was a place.
This thread got me to look at the catechism.

I still don’t understand state versus place, but I’m praying about it.
i guess in my human mind i see ‘place’ as something physical, ‘state’ as something non-physical… does it have to do with having a body?
i see heaven as a place … where we will eventually have our glorified bodies, but angels are there, and they don’t have bodies.

working it out.
