But Catholic teaching has never been that Purgatory is a free license to sin. I understand that People do not understand its meaning but the CCC is quite clear on the teaching.

I feel that purgatory is indeed a process, but the way I see it rather it is a state or a place what really is the difference. Its like saying mental abuse is alot better then physical abuse to me. To me it would be more of a state of mind because your soul is what lives and goes on, but it could also be a place because its a place that you mind goes to, So all in all its the same thing. Just like abuse would be abuse. No one could judge what is worse mental is physical.

I personally look at purgatory as a walk with God through life. I see it as God showing us the other side of the coin. Not what People did to hurt us, but what we did in return. To show us how our decisions and actions changed others life, and how we could have made maybe a wonderful difference, where we did the opposite. Thats where I think the torment and pain is. But that is just my throught there. But I feel that is why it is a cleansing process because when we come out of it, we are really perfected in Christ. We know now it would never happen again. Its not that we did it on purpose, but we could have been a better person. That is why I believe few people do not go there, because few people are really that good, While we believe in Christ, and try to be good people, we all at times in our life let sin get the best of us, Rather in anger, pride, greed, etc. it happens.

There are probably many who believe that being saved is a license to sin; hence the argument about OSAS! But those of us who think logically know that just because we are saved, does not mean we can go out and sin, with no consequences, and then say,“It’s okay, I’m saved!”

Thank you; but I really don’t see how one could be deluded into thinking that purgatory would give you the “license to sin.” I mean, Jesus forgave all sins, past present and future on the Cross, but He did not tell us,“It’s okay to keep sinning, I took care of them all.” But we also don’t know if we can lose our salvation;) 1Corinthians 3:13-15, does say that we will be saved, in spite of our “works” being testd by fire. Lose it, not lose it, a debate for another thread, huh?

you got it buddy, you let me know when and where and i will be there:d

If only Luther would have fought for reform within the church, what a big difference it would have made for today. If Luther had stayed, with the backing of the German princes, and fought for reform we wouldn’t have a splintered Christianity that is so evident today. But the German princes, tired of being monetarily bled by corruption within the church, manipulated Luther and caused the irreparable damage that has resulted in what we have in the world today. Oh, well. Such is man’s greed and avarice. Just because a man wears a Roman collar does not mean he is holy or sanctified. After all, look at Judas.

Well, there was that little excommunication thing that got in the way, too. Oh, and that recant of things that later at Trent he was vindicated of.

But you are right, the sins of men, on both sides of Rome and Wittenburg, are visited on us in our division. Pray we can overcome it with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Being “saved” is a continuous journey for Catholics. We can not take the attitude that once we are saved we can never lose Christ’s saving grace. (Ref: Ezekiel 18:24 and Hebrews 6:4-6). Most protestants believe that it is by faith alone that we are saved, and that works - whether good, bad or none at all - have nothing to do with our salvation. But refer to James 2:17 - “So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead”. And James 2:18 - “You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith.”.

The Old Testament prophets were not catholic, sounds like they were Jewish! And the apostles were all Jewish, who became believers in and followers of Jesus! So, maybe we can buythe theory that people whom you choose to call catholics, put the Bible, but it was inspired and spoken by God, through His prophets and apostles! I don’t believe there will be any religion in Heaven:thumbsup: Just saints praising their Saviour all day long(and all night, too!)
Me Too!😃

Well, we know one thing for sure; we cannot, nor do we need to earn our salvation:thumbsup:And please don’t presume that because one is non-catholic(whew!), that he/she does not believe in works+faith! But also do not be deluded into believing that works is a MAJOR part of the salvation:eek: Any church that teaches this doctrine, is introducing their congregants to legalism:eek:I know thw works i have been doing for the past forty(40) years, so may I ask, what works have you done and what are you still doing? I suppose that when we speak of works, we are talking about those things we do in the name of Jesus! For the record, I agree with James, however, since I feel that Paul is a much more dynamic apostle(not to lessen James’ importance), I do believe that faith is more important than works! I believe that it is by faith that we are inspired to do good works:thumbsup:

Luke 9:62

Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

That would indicate to me that we must ‘work’ to advance the kingdom of God and lead others to him, not just by faith alone!

A list of works!

Corporal works of mercy are:
Code:
*  To feed the hungry;
* To give drink to the thirsty;
* To clothe the naked;
* To harbour the harbourless;
* To visit the sick;
* To ransom the captive;
* To bury the dead.
The spiritual works of mercy are:
Code:
* To instruct the ignorant;
* To counsel the doubtful;
* To admonish sinners;
* To bear wrongs patiently;
* To forgive offences willingly;
* To comfort the afflicted;
* To pray for the living and the dead.

"Faith without works is dead, and works without faith is to no avail". You cannot achieve salvation and heaven with only one alone.

Oh, so you are saying the Prophets and Apostles were not Catholics now. Silly Silly Silly:D I did not know God gave us the Bible, I really did think that came from Catholic’s. I thought God gave us the word! And Catholic’s composed the Bible:D

I was told that the bible did not exist until long after Jesus. But the word existed from the Time of Jesus.🤷

So I will have to make a note of that. How did we get it did it fall from the sky?😃

Thank-you Javl. and I think that what lb was saying is alot of protestatants do indeed agree with us on that. While we know that Salvation is thru Jesus Christ we have our part in it also. He paved the road for us to salvation we just have to follow it. ANd that is the hard part. To accept the Grace that was given to us and not lose it and give in to the works of the devil. We must do the works of our dear Jesus.

Yes Time after Time I just answer a question forom a person that said we can not find Jesus grave because we have to many graves to look for and this was from a Christian. Can you believe a so called Christian is looking for Jesus grave. It takes all kinds

Yes, Rinnie. It’s hard for everyone to keep that in mind. If we can just remember too that the road to perdition is well paved and wide.

About as much as you learn from catholics!😛 And the early Christians and prophets, priests and apostles were Jewish; not cathoic!

Acts 8:20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

Acts 8:21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

Stated by Peter in Acts…
What is the point of these verses? Is it to disprove Purgatory? I think you’d be very interested in these verses on this page:
