I hope this corrects the misinformation given here. Purgatory for Catholic is NOT an optional belief.
I repeat: It has NOT been defined as dogma and is NOT in the canon. Therefore belief in Purgatory is not necessary for salvation.

There really is no NEED to convert! And yes, the Holy Spirit is incredible, and does lead me into Spirit and Truth! Having a personal relationship with Jesus is also a REALLY good thing to have! Wishing you Godspeed in your swim across the Tiber, my brother in Christ!

After looking at all the Protestant alternatives, it became crystal clear to me after prayer and study of history. I agree, having a personal relationship with Christ is important, but it’s also important having a realtionship with his visible body, the Church that has been in existence from the beginning. I’m sure you have. Most of them are well meaning, God loving people. BUT, they teach some things that are diametrically opposed to basic Christian doctrine. No Trinity, no heavenly hope for any except a 144,000 group of them and paradise on earth for the rest that profess to be JW’s, 1914 is when Christ established his Kingdom, no Christmas, no B-Day’s, etc., etc., etc. Do they love God? Yes. Do they have faith in Christ’s sacrifice? Yes. But where do you draw the line in establishing the minumum acceptable issues that must not be crossed and still gain salvation? How do you know?
Being unsure is fine. I was. But for me, if there is one thing JW’s don’t have a problem identifying with is a visible authority here on earth. The only problem for them (and at one time, for me) is that it’s not the WTS. So recognizing that God has always worked through an “organization” was not difficult for me. It was the basic Christian doctrines that took me a little while, ie, Trinity, Heaven, etc. After looking further and further back in history, the CC was the only one that was there before all the others, and was there from the beginning. Ib what is baptism for? Is it not for the forgiveness of sins. To begin with how could I even begin to know how many people the Apostles Baptised in the bible. It says thousands. I mean at pentecost alone Peter said repent and be Baptised. Thats the latest I heard. I had a customer come in last week she was scared to death. She said I know you know the bible, you are catholic where does it say its 2012.
