May I ask where you learned scripture? You certainly don’t understand even the Protestant version of it.

PAX DOMINI :signofcross:

Shalom haMeshiach
Where does the Magisterium learn it? (I bet the Holy Spirit is part of the answer).

 I am not sure what you are saying

Are you saying that Catholics believe that baptism isn’t needed..

If so, that is not what Catholics believe. Catholics believe that you must be baptized. That means any human. It is why the speculation of limbo came about.
No. I am saying that Catholics recognize that baptism is not a requirement for salvation. Baptism is an amazing public announcement to all who witness it, but a person can enter heaven without ever being baptized (and Catholics believe this).

Not at all. It is you my friend who continues to say that. But not me, and not the bible and not Catholic teaching. But here is what Catholic teaching is.

The bible state clearly that in order to be saved you must be born again.

John 3:3-8 Jesus says one must be born again of the water and the spriit. After Jesus talks to Nicodmus what does the bible say Jesus did? He and his disciples went into the land and baptized. So it is through Baptism that one is born again no by accepting Jesus in your heart, at least not according to the bible.

Now being Catholics we know that Salvation is an on going process. It is only the beginning of salvation. There are other things that must happen through ones life.

Rom. One must have faith
Matt one must forgive others to be forgiven
Matt one must keep the commandments
John One must take the Eucharist
John one must labor for the food which one endures to eternal life
Rom One must sek for glory and for honor and immortality
James one must do good works. and on and on and on.

So there is no way that Baptism is the only thing necessary for Salvation. It is the start of a life long process.

I have told you a least a thousand times that Baptism is what wipes away original sin once and or all, but you refuse to accept this teaching. Baptism is what seals our hearts with Christ and enters into our hearts and soul the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. THen the Holy Spirit can begin to work in us, to give us the Grace from God to even attempt Salvation.

I never said Baptism seals Salvation. I said Baptism saves you. Salvation is a process that BEGINS with Baptism not ENDS with it.

Now can you show me where in the bible that it is said that this process must all happen at Baptism? Because if you are correct then one should not be Baptised until ones death right? Because I cannot see how one can keep all the commandments, do the will of God, do good works and have all of these things completed at the time of Baptism the way you are seeing it?🤷 And I see no scriptures that in no way saying what you are trying so hard to make them say?
Its Jesus Christ who you have deny not the interpretation
Back from the original post (and your claim that Tweety doesn’t understand).

Would you mind showing me (and you can use whatever Catholic documentation you like) that one must partake in the Eucharist as a requirement for salvation?

We can agree that Jesus was the Lamb of God, who was sacrificed. Take into account that the sacrifice was always eaten at passover by the jews to fulfill the sacrifice.

Jusus is the Pascal Lamb

1Corinthians
7 Purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new paste, as you are unleavened. For Christ our pasch is sacrificed

Eucharist is necessary for salvation:

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. 52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world. 53 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 54 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. 55 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.

A very good post but you have some here that will just not believe any thing you say even with Bible verses
Aint that the truth? Many on both sides will never accept things we say, even though we use Holy Scripture!

I would like to see that as well!😃

from the Fathers

Early Church Fathers
Irenaeus of Lyons [120-180 AD] Fragments from the Lost Writings of Irenaeus
“‘And [Naaman] dipped himself . . . seven times in the Jordan’ [2 Kgs. 5:14]. It was not for nothing that Naaman of old, when suffering from leprosy, was purified upon his being baptized, but [this served] as an indication to us. For as we are lepers in sin, we are made clean, by means of the sacred water and the invocation of the Lord, from our old transgressions, being spiritually regenerated as newborn babes, even as the Lord has declared: ‘Except a man be born again through water and the Spirit, he shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven’ [John 3:5]” (Fragment 34 [A.D. 190]).

Irenaeus of Lyons [120-180 AD] Adversus Haereses (Book II, Chapter 22)
“He [Jesus] came to save all through himself; all, I say, who through him are reborn in God: infants, and children, and youths, and old men. Therefore he passed through every age, becoming an infant for infants, sanctifying infants; a child for children, sanctifying those who are of that age . . . [so that] he might be the perfect teacher in all things, perfect not only in respect to the setting forth of truth, perfect also in respect to relative age” (Against Heresies 2:22:4 [A.D. 189]).

Hippolytus [170-236 AD] The Antichrist
“Baptize first the children, and if they can speak for themselves let them do so. Otherwise, let their parents or other relatives speak for them” (The Apostolic Tradition 21:16 [A.D. 215]).
I reckon that to accept this as truth, we must believe that the early church fathers spoke infallibly about these things:eek:

Tha nk you very much for putting me down, I understand more than you will ever begin to understand. I know scripture just deny your interpertation.
There is so much charity in these posts against you that it is dripping off the page:rolleyes:

John 20

I think you did a lot of zig zagging to deny that God did in deed delegate the forgiveness of sins. Jesus breathed on them not insignificant.

You did not answer this.

I don’t know what you mean by this. You have not explained what Jesus meant.
Why do you suppose God, in His infinite wisdom, would delegate forgiveness of sins(which ONLY He can forgive, to mere mortal men; who themselves are still vulnerable to sin? The reason God is the ONLY one who can forgive sin, is because He is pure, Holy, and perfect!👍

Actually, rinn, it is you!😛 y saying that infant baptism is ordained, you are implying that these babies know exactly what is going on! Why don’t we just baptize all those who are unbelievers? Would they be saved, even without a profession of faith? Babies can’t make a confession of faith, can they?

I wonder if a Jew would agree with you. I certainly don’t. The life of a Jew proclaims faith. It was more than an identification. It was the sign of the covenant between them and God. Abraham is a man of faith. He acted in faith when he was circumcised. His descendants acted in faith when they circumcised. Circumcision is an act of faith.
I am constanly intrigued by those who try to say that circumcision and baptism are similar:confused: Circumcision was a practice which represented the covenant made between God an the Jews! This was a command from God, which fell under the old covenant; identifying Jews, and a sign that they were obedient! Paul tells us repeatedly that there is no need to be circumcised for salvation! The new covenant, started when Christ died on the Cross, did away with the need for circumcision as a means to identify one as God’s people! Baptism is a part of the salvation process; but does not remove your sins, this is the work of His blood!👍

I agree and that is accomplished through Baptism!😃 But I do not see where it states that in order for the blood of Christ to remove our sins we must be a certain age!😃
Read Colossians 1:14 again, slowly! It does not say, through baptism!😉

Before they shut down this thread I just want to say HAPPY EASTER TO ALL OF YOU!! MAY YOU ALL AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE A BLESSED EASTER, AND BLESSED HOLY WEEK!
And to you, my dear sister in Christ! May we all remember the tragedy, which brought us peace, love, hope and eternal life! As we awaken on Easter morning, let us rejoice in what others also saw that Resurrection Sunday: An Empty Cross! And may we never forget that: 3 Nails+1 Cross= forgiveness!

I don’t know God’s reasoning. I only know He did give this power to His Church. It is Scriptural.

So, if you owned a business, would you hire an ex-convict as head of security? Another question, are the priests who administer confession, sinless?

Yes I would hire an ex-convict as head of security if he was sorrowful for his sin and vowed never to sin again and meant it.

I guess Jesus was a bad business owner because that’s exactly what he did when he “hired” Judas, and the other apostles who denied Him.

Does this mean that YOU don’t forgive people because you aren’t sinless?

Priests don’t need to be sinless to administer confession anyway because when they are in the confessional they are in “Persona Christi” and HE is sinless.

Actually, the guy who was portrayed in the movie, “Catch Me If You Can,” who led a life of crime, was hired as a consultant to teach businesses how to prevent fraud and other crimes against them! And I do forgive others, precisely because they are not sinless, as I am not! But I, even though I am saved, cannot forgive anyone’s sins! The scripture is vague as to whether Jesus actually gave his disciples the power to forgive sins, as God does! He did give them the ability to heal, and to baptize, but I still have a problem believing that they forgave sins! Otherwise, Peter would not have said,“Turn back to God for forgiveness of your sins, repent, and be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit!” And the priest is not in “persona Christi,” a made up catholic term, he is still just a man, whom if we accept your teaching, we must believe that his authority has been passed down infallibly from the disciples’s time! Were the disciples convicts? Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him, and that Peter would deny Him, but that doesn’t mean they were criminals!

Actually yes some were criminals… murderers and thieves as a matter of fact. So just because a murderer or a thief isn’t caught that means they’re not in fact criminals? As long as nobody catches me I’m sinless?

Now you made my point. Jesus KNEW that he was “hiring” criminals and he KNEW that they were who they were, yet he still hired them.

I hate to burst your bubble, but yeah, the priest is acting “Persona Christi” and the priest might be a “criminal” too yet I know what Jesus did and I trust what He said when he breathed the Holy Spirit upon them and told them that whatever was bound on earth would be bound in heaven, whatever was forgiven on earth was forgiven in heaven.
