Your post I was responding to said that Catholicism was my second religion - this is what I would expect an apology toā¦
I said āmightā. Words have meaning. Please donāt read into them. The suggestion was intended to cause introspection. Climate change does not prevent any of us from supporting the poor
right now. It does not prevent us from contacting our Senator regarding abortion
right now. While we do that, we can wait for the emotion that is associated with the climate change controversy to wane slightly so that prudence can enter in. In the meantime, we prudent Catholics can
continue do our individual parts in taking care of Godās creation.
I think if you read through the threads - it is the three things that the Catholic Church suggest we consider when discussing this - Prudence, Concern for the Poor, and the common Good - suggesting in fact that personal action is the response that I have stressed.
But, havenāt you elevated it to the driving force in your life? Are you assuming that we here are not taking personal action? You would be pleasantly surprised if you saw the cumulative efforts already being taken by those on this forum. A possible flaw in your position is that, as Catholics we somehow fall short of your proper level of concern or action. This can have the appearance of arrogance, even if itās not true. It is that appearance, that perception, that brings opposition.
I also never suggested that those who disagree with MMCC do so to using your words ārape the earthā
Nope. I suggested it. I was a point made to lend perspective.
Also - I think if you went through the threads you would find that it is not I alone who support the USCCBāS participation in the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change - and I have ONLY responded to other posts -
I simply cannot fathom your intense interest in this specific organization. CCCC has done nothing, as far as I can see to concretely change anything. Say that we all join CCCC. India and China continue to spew gases into the atmosphere, while American polluters simply now pay a tax and continue to pollute.
That is progress?
So again - I would expect an apology for your suggestion that this issue is more important to me than my faith. I have always tried to engage in civil discussions here - but perhaps the our country is just beyond that - I think it is very sad.
I will not apologize for making a mere suggestion that was intended to cause some introspection. Now, I freely admit that my charity has been lacking recently, and I am honestly working on that.
However, there is something in the very premise of this thread - the tenor of speech. Maybe it is the verbiage used, but it can come across as arrogant and condescending. You can say that it is not, and in fact it may not be, but it still
appears to be. Thatās all.
