is there a religon/spiritualtiy/belief system (besides Satanism) that does NOT start on the premise that we have done something wrong or are somehow defective?

If Satanism says you are just fine as you are, why do you need Satanism?

I really did not ask this to get more questions. I will have to assume you have no answer to this question either? (I don’t.)

It’s a silly question, any religion including Satanism is there because the guys or gods who came up with them think you need what they got because you aren’t ok as you are.

If you enjoy eternal death then it is a good religion for you. And why would anyone think that humans are perfect, as any day you want you can turn on the news and see this isn’t true.

I am not asking the merits or demerits of Satanism!
If I left that word out of the sentence how would you answer the question?
Is there a religion that does not believe humans are faulty? I can’t find one.
And incidentally for the purpose of the question the asker is correct–Satanism does not believe humans are imperfect or in need of a Savior and yes, it is the only religion I know of that thinks that way. Which is why I asked this forum if there are any others.

Yet Satanism believes people need Satanism to tell them that.

There’s not any, to answer the question.

Nope, can’t think of any for obvious reasons. Humans are not perfect.

I think the responses are relevant to the question, Ravyn.

If Satanism truly holds that human beings are perfectly fine in and of themselves then what purpose the worship of Satan?

Worship surely happens, regardless of faith tradition, because people hope to gain some spiritual benefit that they need (or at least think they need). Even if that benefit is only a reassurance that they ARE fine, this need for reassurance is in itself an imperfection and flaw in the human character, no?

The neo-pagan earth religions like Wicca, and cultural pagan reconstructionist religions (Asatru, Hellenic pagans, Celtic reconstructionists etc) do not start from such a premise. These religions do not recognize the Abrahamic notion of sin and certainly don’t adhere to the idea of original sin. To them it is more a matter of cause and effect. Do negative things, negativity will come back to you; do positive things, positive things will come back to you. But to them, no one is intrinsically “good” or “evil.”

Depends on what your friend means by “we have done something wrong or are somehow defective”.

Does he mean (as I suspect) “all humanity has an inherently sinful nature based on the actions of Adam and is in need of a Savior”? If so, then Christianity is the only one that I know of that holds to such an idea (original sin). Judaism does not, nor does Islam.
religionfacts.com/islam/beliefs/human.htm
jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/Original_Sin.html

There are many tales of how evil entered the world in many religions, sometimes by the action of a particular human (think Pandora) but I don’t know of any others offhand that therefore conclude that every individual human is forever held responsible for such simply by being born.

As to flawed, again, depends on what standard one is using to measure. If one assumes that the God/God are the standard, then, yes, pretty much all of them teach that we are not the equivalent. Hellenism, for instance, has no teaching of imitatio dei. Rather the reverse, in fact-- imitatio dei would actually be hubris.

Most that I know consider Gods and humans to be simply entirely different classes of beings with their own separate standards of behavior. That means that some individual humans will indeed be flawed by the standards of humanity, but not that a human should (or even ever could be) measured by the standard of the Gods/God. It would simply make no sense to make such a comparison.

the Catholic Church starts from the premise that we are created wholely good by God who is entirely and completely good, and that we incur disorder and sin, and its logical consequences, only because of human sinful actions, beginning with and including the radical choice of our first parents to reject God’s goodness and gifts. The good God also provides the remedy for this sin and disorder and its effects through the action of God becoming man, assuming our wholey good human nature (he is like us in all things except sin) and redeeming the sinful actions that have damaged us through is passion, death and resurrection.

some of the denominations whose roots are in the Reformation deny this fundamental doctrine of innate human goodness and goodness of creation in the doctrine of “total depravity” which holds that humans are inherently evil and corrupt, and their evil can only be covered, not changed, through the sacriice of the Redeemer.

Yes, Wicca is a religion that does not use that premise in its doctrine. It is not a Satanic religion. It’s members do not believe Satan exists. 👍

I think Buddhism does not teach that people are somehow “flawed”, just incomplete. However, I may be wrong.

But I think it is pretty clear that people are flawed and make mistakes. Is your friend perfect? Does he/she always add numbers together correctly, never make spelling mistakes or typos and does not have bad habits like nail biting or nose picking? Did they get perfect grades in school?

I think the responses are relevant to the question, Ravyn.
How do you figure most of these responses are relevant-including yours? Ravyn’s question is pretty straightforward, and actually did not include Satanism… that word is an parenthesis. She simply asks what religions, if any, do not have original sin within its doctrine.

Buddhism teaches that all people need enlightenment and are flawed. The fact that they were reborn as a human means they still have more to learn and perfect in order to avoid future rebirths. I’m not picking on you, but just wanted to clarify that.

You are right, no one is perfect.

Peace…

Muhammed didn’t die for our sins,
Buddha didn’t die for our sins,
Jesus Christ died for our sins. period.

I wasn’t making any points. I was clearing up the misconceptions about Buddhism. I wasn’t preaching, so why are you preaching to me?

Peace…
