Well grasscutter I could not disagree with you more so I’m going to go out on a limb here and speculate that maybe you attend one of those many parishes where the noise level is high like busy people running around with maybe the ushers chatting in the back of the Church even during Mass. Perhaps there is a long offering each other peace with back slaps and people roaming around to find a friend or two a few pews over to hug. All of that business does not create a holy atmosphere. At least that was my experience for much of my adult life. Until less than 6 months ago when we moved from California, this was the norm so I maybe I would not have felt as spiritually assaulted if that had been the case.

Or perhaps you just don’t realize how close to the entrance of the Church this was. We were greeted with this yelling immediately after stepping outside.

Actually, it looks like we’re both lucky enough to be able to regularly assist at quiet, beautiful and reverent Masses. My parish priest is also as wonderful as yours sounds to be. 🙂 (I’m ever so glad he will never read what you speculated)

In any case, noise that goes on outside of the church is none of my business.

It was Voltaire who said that the problem with common sense is that it is not all that common.

It appears that the Knights are aggressively trying to promote the various fund raising efforts they do. They do a tremendous amount of good work.

If, as it appears, they have used “carnival barker” types of promotion, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with that; it may offend some; and undoubtedly amuses others.

It also appears that the OP is more sensitive than the average person to any sort of commotion.

It would be my suggestion that she speak directly to the person who is offending her. It is not the head Knight’s job. It is hers. Alternatives are to find another exit after Mass and use that. Was he screaming? My bet is that most people would respond that he used a loud voice, and did not scream. Is it appropriate? That has no absolute answer; if most people are not offended, and one is, and the one who is , is much more sensitive than the average, then the issue is not the Knight; it is the more sensitive person. At this point, neither are “right” and neither are “wrong”.

It is a bit akin to someone being very light sensitive, and wanting the parish to turn off most of the lights in the church because it hurts their eyes with the usual high lighting. They may need to wear dark glasses; but the lighting needs to be sufficient for the vast majority.I am not suggesting that “carnival barker” announcements are appropriate; if I heard it I would simply be amused. Since it appears that this is not the first incident, it also appears that no one else is much perturbed by it. That boots it to the sensitive person to find a different exit.

It’s not a KofC issue, it’s a personal issue with the person or persons who is/are ‘barking’. If you have a problem with the presentation, speak to the Grand Knight about changing that. It is not a Knights issue or practice.
