I have gone through some of the prayer threads and noticed that a lot of the prayer is great and loving. However, I noticed a lot of individuals using specific predetermined prayer that does not directly apply to the situation. Honestly, I must be ignorant of something because I know there must be a reason. I personally would pray with a change in words based on each situation. I understand the value of formulaic prayer as I have prayed the Rosary and attended Mass before.

**Oh dear Sacred Heart of Jesus,
I give You my whole heart.
I see Your Heart on fire for love of me.
I want to be in this fiery furnace
and know the love of God.
Take me, Jesus.
Use me as Your little servant
to spread Your love to this world.
I give myself entirely to You
and I ask the Holy Spirit
to make me more like You.
I want to be a little child of the Father.
I give You my heart,
keep me in Your Heart
and teach me Your way of love.

Amen **

Your question came across as honest.

I prefer to address the prayer to the situation also. However, some people are less comfortable with finding the words.
Nevertheless, they do act on the knowledge that some 'formula prayers are perfect if we really think about what we are praying.

The Lord’s prayer, composed by Jesus, enables us to honor God, to pray for His will and the spread of His kingdom of love and truth;
it includes prayers for temporal needs , (the meaning of 'give us this day our daily bread = daily needs). It concludes with intercession for spiritual needs and for spiritual protection.

The Lord’s Prayer is prayed in the plural “our” so that we are not just praying for ourselves, but also for others.
The Hail Mary, which many often also use, is a prayer of thanks to God for this wonderful intercessor and the gifts God has given to and through her; and asks Mary’s intercession for our daily needs, and our final salvation…again in the plural.

May God bless you and your loved ones, today and always,
Trishie

Forgive me if I came across as elitist or holier-than-thou. That was definitely not my intention. My question is not brilliant. I am sincerely wondering about the nature of the usage of formulaic prayer.
I responded in all sincerity – because we do have many issues with different prayers and how they are said. I’m not being snarky at all.

In any case, I’m simply reminding everyone of the “Rules of the Road.”

“The Prayer Intentions board is not intended to be used as a place for debate, discussion, or advice.” God bless you!
