By the Providence of God , Queen Elizabeth II will at 17.30 BST today become the longest reigning British monarch , acceding to the throne on the death of her father King George VI on 6th February 1952…being Queen for 63 years and 216 days .

And what a great example she has been through the service and duty she has given to her subjects !

**BBC - Queen Elizabeth II becomes longest-reigning UK monarch
Cheering crowds have greeted the Queen in Edinburgh on the day she becomes Britain’s longest reigning monarch.**
Bad weather delayed her arrival at Waverley Station, but the 89-year-old monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh later set off on the new Borders Railway.
**The Queen will have reigned for 63 years and seven months - calculated at 23,226 days, 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes at about 17:30 BST.
David Cameron said the service she had given was “truly humbling”**.
Dressed in turquoise with her trusty black handbag at her side, the Queen smiled and waved to those gathered at the station on the day she passes the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
**In the day’s main events:
The Queen and Prince Philip travelled by steam train to Tweedbank, in the Borders, with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon**
They stopped off in Newtongrange where Her Majesty accepted flowers from well-wishers and opened the new railway station
A flotilla of historic vessels, leisure cruisers and passenger boats has taken part in a procession along the Thames between Tower Bridge - which opened as a sign of respect - and the Houses of Parliament
HMS Belfast sounded a four-gun salute
After 13:00 - Upon arrival at Tweedbank, Her Majesty will formally open the £294m Scottish Borders Railway, after which she is expected to make a short speech.
**Business in the Commons was postponed for half an hour so that MPs, led by Mr Cameron, could pay tribute to the Queen.
The prime minster said she had been a “rock of stability” in an era when so much had changed, and her reign had been the “golden thread running through three post-war generations**”.
He said it was “typical of Queen’s selfless sense of service” that she thinks today should be a normal day.
**Acting Labour leader Harriet Harman said it was “no exaggeration” to say the Queen was “admired by billions of people all around the world”.
Ministers are to present the Queen with a bound copy of cabinet papers from the meeting in 1952 when Sir Winston Churchill’s government approved the content of her first Queen’s Speech**.

The Royal Party were welcomed by a traditional pipe band

Meanwhile in London, a flotilla of vessels, including Havengore and Gloriana, took part in a procession along the Thames

Congratulations!

One wonders, will historians refer to our period as the “Deutero-Elizabethan”???

:):)🙂

Cardinal Nichols: Loyal Address to Queen Elizabeth II…

Loyal Address to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of Her becoming the longest reigning Monarch in British History

Your Majesty,

It is an honour and a pleasure to express the great loyalty and gratitude felt by the Catholic community of England and Wales for the outstanding and unstinting service you give to our nation and to people throughout the world.

We express these sentiments with particular warmth and admiration as you celebrate the occasion of surpassing the length of reign of any other British Monarch.

Along with Catholics across the world, and especially in the Commonwealth, we join our prayers of thanksgiving to those of other Christians for the many blessings of your reign.

Your vocation as our Queen has been unstinting over these years. The burden of high office fell upon your shoulders at a young age, and yet through the many and varied circumstances of your Reign, you have held integrity of service as a high standard and as an exemplar for other heads of state and leaders of nations. We give thanks too for the constant support that Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has shown you in your time as our Queen; his role as Prince Consort being a source of strength and stay.

We thank you too, for your steadfast insistence on the great importance of our Christian faith, given in both word and example, alongside your appreciation of the contribution made by other religions in our rich and diverse society today. Our hope is that, enriched by the presence of many beliefs and cultures, our country will always maintain respect for our Christian heritage and the sure foundations that it provides for a flourishing of true human fulfilment. The Gospel of Jesus, which we seek to serve, is a challenge to our society to think more deeply about the sanctity of life, the constant need for forgiveness and reconciliation, and the faithfulness required in love and the self-sacrifice which brings true satisfaction

Your Majesty, it is my privilege to assure you of our prayers for you, now and in the future and, most especially, on the day when you become our longest reigning Monarch. All the Catholic communities in England and Wales have been asked to offer special prayers for you and your family on this most special of days.

May Almighty God bless Your Majesty, preserve you in health of mind and body, and grant you every grace and blessing, now and in the years to come.

I’m glad she broke the record, and I wish her more happy, healthy years. The woman is amazing. I have known her to be sick, but of course Britain’s Royals do not confide in me! LOL

However, I think the UK should get rid of the monarchy. I mean, what purpose does it serve except to provide photos for gossip magazines? And I feel bad for Prince Charles. He’s in his mid-sixties and he’s waited all his life to be king, his “job.” The only way he can fulfill that is if his mother dies! Or gives up the throne, which she might do if she lives to her 90s, and I think she will. She comes from hardy stock. Very hardy stock. I might be mistaken, but I thought the Queen Mother lived to be 100 or more.

Anyway, congratulations to Queen Elizabeth. Queen or not, I wish her more happy, healthy years.

Queen Elizabeth is also the Queen of Australia .

In 1999 Australia had a referendum about whether the country should become a republic .

The majority voted to reject a republic and to continue with the monarchy .

There is no way the people of the UK would opt for a republic…certainly not while monarchs such as Queen Elizabeth II are around .

Obama must be so jealous. That was a title he wanted.

What they should do is give her back some of her traditional powers as monarch. It’s a shame to have a sitting monarch who has almost no power and what little she does have, she never exercises. Who’s with me?

In 1951 , the year before she became Queen , as Princess Elizabeth , and along with her husband Prince Philip , she visited Pope Pius XII at the Vatican .

Then in 1961 , now Queen Elizabeth , she went with Prince Philip to the Vatican to meet St John XXIII…youtube.com/watch?v=noPXI-z9Wck

Why would we want to swap rather popular Liz - or even our royal soap opera if you want to think about it like that - for an elected President like that of the US or France where, at least, half the population actively loathes them (that’s what Prime Ministers are for in our system) or the kind of ceremonial ‘geriatric politician who’s been around so long that few people actively hate him/her any more’ that you get in places like Italy?

Long to reign over us!
