Just to interject here. In Genesis 1, it says “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” This is in context of the 6 days of creation and 7th day of rest.

In Genesis 2, it says “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man”.

Hence what DaveE said, there is Genesis 1 and there is Genesis 2.

Ophelia, so am I wrong in thinking woman came from man ?

Was man not the first made and women second as a help meet ?

Iam confussed here

I was allways told man was Gods first creation and women came from adams ribs. seriously

where a person stands on the existence of alien intelligence has very little, if anything, to do with our salvation.

there are better ways to work out one’s salvation than spending much time on idle speculation.

now, if someone can explain how the existence or non-existence of alien intelligence impacts my salvation, i eagerly await the explanation.

for me, all of human life is first and foremost about the salvation of individual souls.

Yes so in other words iam talking about something that doesn’t matter and salvation through Jesus Christ is more important than if aliens exist or not

You were not told wrong, because in Genesis 2 the account of the creation of man includes the story of woman coming from man’s rib. But, in Genesis 1, the account of creation of man includes the creation of both male and female at the same time. Regardless of what we are told by others, it is good to familiarize ourselves with what is written. Is it that Genesis 1 is true and Genesis 2 is false? Genesis 2 is true and Genesis 1 is false? Or is it, most likely, that there is more to be taken from the book of Genesis than a one-dimensional literal translation?

I think that what daveE was saying in his previous post was quite interesting and worth contemplation.

Ophelia, I was reading it genesis 1 and genesis 2 and I see that it means the same thing.

Maybe God is not so fussy about these things and he puts it the way he talks. Yeah because G1 and G2 cant conterdict one another. It would be impossible. We humans want everything perfect but maybe God has another kind of perfect with love. God sees perfection in love. So maybe he talks in a better way than we can see. Its the same anyways just explained later on and not at the start.

we have limited time in this life.

speculative theology is often interesting, even if only because it allows for the use of our imaginations and we find it energizing.

if we treat speculative theology as something of a hobby, i can understand a person spending time on it.

however, i seriously question the impact on salvation of discussions concerning alien intelligence.

personally, i accept what the RCC teaches on the subject and see little benefit spending time exploring it further.

however, i do not think it is sinful to discuss the subject unless the discussion and contemplation of it weakens a person’s faith in our Lord.

so, go for it. for me, there are far better actions and thoughts upon which to spend my time.

even the discussions of how to understand the creation stories in genesis are, for me, more efficacious than speculating about alien intelligence.

i seriously doubt that, no matter how much time is spent on the subject of alien intelligence, any one is going to provide any more of substance than what the church already teaches about it.

if speculating about alien intelligencet helps you relax or pray, keep at it.

eddie too, great answer:)

I allways keep one thing in my heart from childhood, that I was taught in church…" you must humble yourself like a child to enter the kingdom of heaven." I believe God wants us to really depend on him. God loves children and we are his children and I believe when we think and speak of purity from our hearts in our actions and words we truly are close 2 God. The whole thing is to serve God in life fully. You notice all of Gods ways are about love. So I believe if you have love in your heart and mind then the words in scripture become simple to understand and live by. I don’t believe you need education 2 understand God. No its the heart everything comes from the heart, humility, humble, love. Too many people try 2 understand God with hard hearts and that’s when translation becomes hard because you can be on a different playing field. When Jesus spoke he spoke with love. So I fully believe you need 2 have your soul close to God reading the bible.

God bless and take care
