I am pretty sure that Condoms are considered a sin in Catholocism, why?

Because they are an artificial form of birth control. Each act of intercourse must be open to life and this was held by all of Christianity until 1930 when the Episcopal Church decided to allow artificial birth control. Since then other Christian groups allowed for the same. But like many things, people will polarize to the group that fits their needs rather than God’s will.

Condoms are a sin in Christianity as a whole. Catholicism just maintained what has been taught throughout the centuries…teachccd

I think if your gonna have sex before marriage, or at a age un-prepared, you should use one.

It is considered a sin to use condoms in Catholicism because they render the sex act closed to life.

“I think if your gonna have sex before marriage, or at a age un-prepared, you should use one.”

maybe if you’re unprepared for marriage/child you should just abstain from having sex instead. we are not sheep we can choose whether to have sex or not.

Morality is not decided by popularity. Somethings are always wrong no matter how many people do them.

You are not Catholic but still a Christian so you should know very well that sex before marriage is forbidden by God. To say if someone is going to do it anyway they they should use a condom is pretty stupid and shows a gross ignorance of your faith.

A number of Catholic moral theologians are advocating the use of condoms in order to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Please see the articles listed below:

*Catholic Relief Services promotes condom use, moral theologian alleges
*Let’s not condemn condoms in the fight against AIDS
*Condoms can be okay

Germaine Grisez, writing for First Things, responds appropriately:
My argument is that providing information from which one must distance oneself cannot manifest Jesus’ love of his brothers and sisters and cannot help those who receive the information to meet Jesus, learn what he offers us fallen humans, and respond to his gospel and his love. If I am right, the responsible CRS officials are betraying not only the bishops but the entire Catholic Church in the United States, donors to CRS who intend their contributions to be used in a charitable apostolate, those who ought to benefit from that apostolate, those pressed into complicity, and, above all, Jesus himself.

Well, we’d better specify “Condom use for their intended purpose”. There’s another thread discussing condom use for things like balloons, air or water, or gun-barrel covers (no pun intended 😉 ). Condoms in themselves are not inherently immoral or sinful, just like hormonal suppliments which can cause abortion as a side effect are not inherently sinful.

The intent of their use and their use with the wrong intent is. 😉

Actually, condoms (no capital “C”) are not a sin, any more than an IUD is a sin or a birth control pill is a sin. Things cannot sin, people can.

The reason that the use of these things is a sin is that they are methods of artifical birth control, which is against the teaching of the Church.

Fell free to argue the “can a condom prevent HIV transmission” point, but put it in a new thread. BTW, the Chruch teaching on this is simple: The only 100% sure way to prevent HIV transmission and by not having sex with an infected person. Seems really really simple and sane, doesn’t it?

I know that if you’re gonna have sex before marriage, or at an age un-prepared you are offending God greatly. Putting a condom on that kind of sin will not hide it. If you are a Christian Knight then you should know better…teachccd

A theological opinion is just that, an opinion. Contemporary theologians cannot even agree with each other. No Christian Church condoned contraception prior to 1930. Did Christ fail to mention something and it took one thousand nine hundred and thirty years to realize it? I think not…teachccd

Even better, how about you reserve sex for marriage and, I know this sounds crazy, show a little bit of self control?

Be a man. Not a sheep.

I know lots of atheists who managed to keep their pants zipped up/ panties on until the wedding night. There’s nothing about atheism that presupposes immorality - even they know that sex is designed for reproduction. (They don’t know Who designed it, but they do know what it does, and how it works.)
