Firstly, I would very much appreciate your prayers, as DH got a lead for a job that would really be ideal for us at this point in time - it’s very close to us so his commute would be much shorter than it currently is, it covers pretty much the exact type of work DH has always wanted to do (he’s in a related position now but it’s not exactly the same), and, for those of you familiar with our financial situation, it would likely lead to a fairly significant increase in our household income. DH also meets the stated qualifications so I am tentatively hopeful (and praying really, really, really hard
).
In addition to your prayers, I have a question for some folks who are more seasoned in the workforce than I. In addition to submitting his application and resume, DH is considering calling the person running the job search (who would also be his supervisor if he were hired). He knows the person professionally and they have a cordial relationship (not uncommon for his field, and we are not dealing with large, corporate environment HR departments here or an outside hiring firm.) Mostly he wants more details about the position, but also he wants to put his name and voice to his application, because he feels it will give him an advantage in hiring. While I know that DH has been very successful professionally thus far in his career in terms of getting contacts, having a charismatic personality, and knowing how to talk to people, I’m concerned he might be overplaying his hand and look like he’s trying to kiss up or pull strings. So I’m concerned that what he thinks will be an asset may actually hurt him in the application process even though he already knows the person and they are friendly and respect each other.
But I’ve been less active in the paid workforce so I could also not know what I am talking about at all.
Thoughts?
