Question About John Paul's II Last Days

I think during John Paul’s last days people were praying and I think they were praying the “Hail Mary” and other prayers. Were the prayers in Latin or Italian?
 
Whoops I should have clarified. I think one of the cardinal’s (Ratzinger maybe?) was reciting them over a mi8crophone. I’m not sure if anyone saw that. It was hours before Pope John Paul II died.
