I don’t know what the Catholic Church teaches, but growing up we were taught that those with the gift of tongues should refrain from praying that way publicly in church unless there was also someone present with the gift of interpretation.
Otherwise, the person praying in tongues should do it privately, as a wonderful, mystical way of praying with God.
I don’t think modern Pentecostal churches feel this way, though.
I haven’t heard of any Charismatic Catholic groups near me, but I’d like to learn more about them in the future. There have been testimonies of healing here on CAF from people who’ve gone to a healing service.
But I really don’t know how speaking in tongues is incorporated in their services, if at all. I do believe it is a gift of the Holy Spirit, and if He wishes to grant someone that gift, then I’m sure it is an amazing experience.
